Magazine Interview with SCS Software

Our fans in Germany may find interest in a special issue of PC Games magazine, focusing solely on driving simulators. The issue should appear on news stands across Germany starting today.

The magazine contains an extensive interview with SCS Software (and a total of 23 pages devoted to our games in total), covering our history from the very start of the company, our most challenging projects, our opinion on state of the simulation games market, and also some hints about future matters. It also includes a pack-in DVD with demo versions of our simulators released in Germany through rondomedia so far, so it may be a chance to try something that you haven't tried before. The interview is has been translated into German for the magazine of course, but the demos are actually the time-limited demo multi-language digitally distributed editions of our games, so for example German Truck Simulator demo is the latest 1.32 version "Edition Austria."

As a teaser, here is a small excerpt from the interview:

Can you imagine developing an online version of your games (are you even already planning one)? And if you do, what would that game look like? What kind of challenge would it offer the players?
Of course we can imagine transforming our games from purely single-player experience into collaborative gameplay concept. The trouble is that to make it right, the game should ideally be closer to a MMO game – with persistent player data and ability to keep track of the player's progress so far in the virtual world. Actually we have had the concept document for such a game already sketched for several years, waiting “in the drawer” to be used when the time is right. But it's a big task to build something like that - with money to put into development and infrastructure, even a light-weight version of an MMO could represent a multimillion investment. We need to approach this ambition very carefully.  One day we hope to be able to push for online component for our games, we are looking forward to being in position to do so in fact. But as I frequently remind our fans, it all depends on our ability to sell enough copies of our games to be able to afford thinking of the more ambitious plans. There is a simple way to motivate us to accelerate our effort – vote with your wallet for the survival and evolution of the simulation genre.

  1. Good interview but I cannot miss the chance of express mine (and other 12.000 users) sorrow.

We requested an extensive interview to SCS Software a couple of years ago too. Our requests were always denied or ignored.

Despite our intensive work in spreading, advertising and supporting the SCS Software games, it seems that we are not mainstream enough, or at least not so important as a local magazine in a foreign language which only few guys will have access or will be capable of understand.

We are a low budget project too. We support our bills working with our own servers and with spam/add free website and forum, and we are very proud for that.

Anyway our struggle and motivation continues. We love these games and company and we will continue to support them without any doubts.

It's a peaty that the ones that really would like to know so much more about the company and it's team see their requests completely ignored.

    Merry Christmas!
    Pedro (Pumizo)

  3. "....MMO could represent a multimillion investment."

I'm pretty sure that means multi-millions in CZK, not in EUR or USD. ;-) (For better imagination, budget of 2KCzech's Mafia II was about 100 millions CZK, it's 4 millions of EUR or 5 millions of USD.)

  5. An MMO (Massively multiplayer online game) Will cost very much. But if you one day want make any then you can take some inspiration form the MMO "Test Drive Unlimited" Game.
You don't have to make a MMO i think most people want a simple multiplayer experience. You can add some simple multilayer to your games that will not cost much and add the option to player host their games with dedicated server support and IP host. But problem is a truck sim game is not like a shooter game and not best for online gaming.
For compatibility and error free game you can make the multiplayer in separate exe.

Scs Software you need make more research into your games and always do not forgot to listen your customer what they want in your games.
I know it's not possible because of lack of time and budget. You need find a rich publisher that can give you some boost.

  6. In my opinion most of people want simple multiplayer. 2 guys connect take the same load and drive to unload. I think its enough ,because Many players mean many problem (lags, few "demolition man" etc )

  7. "We requested an extensive interview to SCS Software a couple of years ago too. Our requests were always denied or ignored."

I also requested some info on ET2 and ETS2 from SCS Software too, to write up a preview on those games. I was also ignored.

  8. To be fair, a 2 player multiplayer would be rubbish, boring and a waste of time.

Better of waiting a while and let them develop there MMO idea, or maybe a farming simulator approach??

  9. Multiplayer like Farming Simulator 2011 ;)

  11. SCS ... Just look at Rigs of rods.

It is made using a free game engine, and is free to download, and yet they manage multiplayer !

I am sure you could integrate a similar system without spending too much.

And also, where can we read the full interview !

  12. SCS will never build any sort of Multiplayer game. Like they said, to create a MMO game can be, I quote "a multimillion investment." SCS are always tight on money, every time I read an interview by them anywhere they are always complaining about not having enough money. I shake my head with shame that they even mention to their fans they might create a multiplayer truck simulator. It will never happen!

  13. Not to shove a stick up your a** but maybe just maybe with enough help from the people who play this game, or some media advertisements across the world...it may just be a reality, do you think companies start with hundreds of millions from the word go? no they don't they work at it..so before stamping on their ideas maybe you should gather some real facts...jacka**

  14. I own a company so I can tell you for a fact they don't start with hundreads of millions. I can also tell you that the potential market for a MMO truck simulator pretty much doesnt exist and I don't need to gather some real facts because I know SCS have already done this, hence why no one is playing a multiplayer truck simulator. If you want to get your hopes up for a multipplayer truck simulator, knock yourself out but someone has to let people know what is really happening here

  15. Hey guys, what do you think about pre-sale contest? For example, you post 5-7 questions in blog (questions about your games and company, for e.g). We are think and answer them. Then, you randomly choose 3 winners. Well, what do you think?

  17. Perhaps you need to open accounts for financial support? Or separately to raise money for the development of multiplayer.

  18. This is unrelated to the magazine interview but is nevertheless a relevant suggestion concerning the games: I hope the tilde (`) key (or whatever else is used to open the console) now works in windows vista and 7!! I'm running windows vista and have no idea how to open the extreme trucker console.
It was pretty sloppy I feel to have overlooked that.

  21. We are working hard on a new site that deals with your games (Euro Truck Simulator Euro Truck Simulator 2, Truck Simulator German, UK Truck Simulator 18 WoS: ET, 18 WoS: ET 2, 18 WoS: ALH). Tons of information, hundreds of downloads and an integrated forum for thousands of people with all sorts of issues surrounding these games, which will be happy to assist you. We want to create a large community of people from the Czech Republic about your truck games!

  22. Hello... my name is Marcelo from Brazil... i enjoy a lot this game... ETS - and i always loooked for some news about the game on internet. i discovered this blog by accident and i loved it, believe me. I don't know when is your intention to release the new game... but i, as a user, would like to suggest you to include more different trucks (4x2, 4x4, 6x2, 6x4 and 8x4 - of couuse, with diffent levels of hardness in the missions), more cities, countries and mainly... roads with different levels of traffic. Double-trailers... acording to your experience and ability on driving. And at last... i suggest you to include more cars, trucks and why not... buses... This is what i expect to see in a new game version. I hope i can have helped.

  23. SCS in not capable of building such a task , They simply so not have the know how or the knowledge and experience to build a MMO game . The quote " One day we hope to be able to push for online component for our games, we are looking forward to being in position to do so in fact. But as I frequently remind our fans, it all depends on our ability to sell enough copies of our games to be able to afford thinking of the more ambitious plans. Posted by SCS Software at 12/08/2010 05:01:00 PM " is just a stupid plot for them to try and convince the ignorant to run and buy their cheap useless crappy arcadish trucking games .

The company CEO Sabre needs to grow up and become a real man and learn how to code and learn business and learn how to operate a company like a real business man does . Until he learns WTF he really should be doing and what QUALITY really is . his company is doomed for utter failure .
