Truck Sound Recording

Today we have something different to show you... a short "making of" kind of video created by our friends from Silent Noise, who are helping us record a new database of truck sounds.

Some two weeks ago, we were recording Scania sounds. The R-series tractor and the trailer were kindly lent to us by Scania Czech Republic.

We have found a suitable place away from the civilization and background noise at the Tlustice airport. We spent most of the day there goofing with the tractor, also making tests and observations useful for our vehicle physics development. We actually continued late into the early morning hours - waiting until a nearby highway was mostly empty, so that we could record proper sounds while repeatedly going uphill and downhill on a steep incline near Lodenice.

We recorded a wide palette of sounds that day, way more than we can possibly use for Euro Truck Simulator 2. Hopefully with your kind support, we will find a way to use all those sounds in SCS Software's future truck sims.

    I was a bit septic at the beginning of this project( meaning: we ll get the same bad simulator again with only regular things in it, never the same level of detail as a real simulator etc)


    But after following the changes u have been making and the amount of progress in your way of working and developing a real simulator, I can only say, really really really congratulations !

    you guys are working on this project with a huge amount of professionalism and feeling for the community. You guys also addressed some issues (like specific road signs for every country, better darkness, truck sounds, rain effects, etc).

    I can tell you I will certainly buy this game, not because I like trucks or roads or a simulator, no, just because I like games where the developer STILL puts a huge effort and amount of work in, combined with a listening ear to the community.

    Again, can't wait to get my hands on this game and the map editor.

    PS: small tip, disable the loud music so we can actually hear the sounds you are recording, now the music takes the upperhand in the mid part of the trailer.

    Very very nice SCS. I like that you recorded the button clicking, door slamming and lever clicking sounds at the end of the video. That's some attention to detail.

    I hope that you implement the retarder into ETS2, since you've driven a truck that has one. :-)

    Thanx for sharing this with us!!! I wish I could goof off with a truck!!!
    I love the fact yall are using real truck sounds!!!
    Are you going to do this with every truck brand?
    Also dont know what to do with the sounds ur not using... mybe make a free rome mode that lets u look in the intire cab and sleeper look in storge compartments and turn on bunk lights!!! The idea is kinda off of GT5 and Forza but would go well at truck-stops!!!

    Hi SCS the idea it is perfect for the sound.
    But for now i just remembered something
    at night we can not see anything inside
    the truck.
    So why you do not add a button which
    opens the interior lights???

    Wow Scs, this looked like some hard work! I am so glad that you are taking steps to make more realistic engine sounds, thanks a lot! This, combined with the physics, features and appearance of the truck will make it the ultimate driving experience. Please be sure not to use the same sound for all engines, but I'm sure you won't!

    Something like a month ago I watched a similar movie done by developers of NFS run, same tactic; some tuned cars on the lonely track without background sounds and tons of mic equipment, and when I tested the game, the sound experience was so perfect. The game was really differed when I tuned the volume up… I know that they probably have much bigger bugged than you, but as I see you are going to be as much successful as they were. There is a ton of professionalism in this video. Just don’t forget that not every truck has sound like Scania. For total success you’ll have to record all engines. So keep up the good work, you are surprising me from week to week!

    Good job, I appreciate that! But did u know that all the sounds are a little bit different in cold weather and hot weather. You recorded all of them in winter, in low temperature, when the air is very humid, but your game takes place in summer. Just keep that in mind for your later games if u want to make them extra-realistic :D

    This is an R6 engine....NOT A v8 Engine....V8 is a different sound....PLEASE scs...DON'T use that sound on the engines that have more than 500 Hp (scania).....Because when it is R500, R560,R620 and R730 it is \8/ for ALL the MONEY....R420, and up to R480...is NOT v8...it is R6 engine ;)....PUTTING ON THE WRONG SOUND MAKES THE GAME WEIRD...so PLEASE put on the right sound to the amont of Horsepower....R500 and Up = V8.....R480 and DOWN--> R6

    SCS That looks really amazing :) I totally love it :) All pictures, videos... It looks perfect :) Please, but do not use this engine for all trucks, yes i know, it is not cheap to record all truck engines, but if you use Scania engine to all trucks, it was too bad :/ But graphics, physics, game game options are fantastic :) Nádhera pánove, jen tak dál :)

    I hope this time the speed limits are realistic not like other truck sims you brought out where they can go on a class roads and dual carraigewaysat 60mph/98kph without getting speeding fines . If you are making this it needs to be done properly with the correct speed limits in each country and also speed limiters on the trucks set at 56mph/90kph

    SCS for the speed limits you can make it start with limited 85km/h and then if get money you can make it 90-93km/h .. cuz 175km/h (like on ETS) Is way not realistic !

    Again you inform us with splendid news, the new sounds will be fantastic in the game!

    But I've 1 question ..
    We saw sound recording of opening doors, attach cables, ..
    Does it mean you're going to add this feature this also in your game or the upcoming ones?!

    I LOVE the rain effects! Oh my goodness, As long as the handling of the trucks are so that when navigating a tight bend the trailer wheels also turn and that the tractor itself turns and grips the road without slipping on a tight curve, that's the only problem. Sounds were never a huge problem for me personally but going the extra mile with it is fantastic!!!!

    Look forward to getting my hands on this, If we don't get fully licensed vehicles thats fine...... Scania is the main player for most companies anyway.

    scs muy bueno ahora para que sea mas real debe prestar atencion alos pedidos de los fans poner peatones motos bicicletas y otros vehiculos los cambios deben ser realista no como en ets1 o gts ola serie 18 weel ya que se parecen mas a automoviles un camion es mucho mas dificil de manejar por ejemplos ay camiones que los cambios van de 1 en baja a 5 luego 6 en alta y acia adelante tambien cuenta la intermedia

    I love the sounds, And this looks like the best Simulator you have made. Please keep the Trailer hookup and dropoff the same as in UKTS. Where you pickup and dropoff Trailers with other Trailers at the loading dock. I don't like Trailers poping out of no where and going Poof when you drop them off. Please make this game more real. Thank You

    It would be nice if you can pickup logs at a logging camp and take them to a lumber mill, The lumber to Lowes or some store,Or where something is made from it. And pick up items at other places, Like steel at a steel mill, and other places where items are made instead of warehouses.
