Finally the little competition we have promised you a while ago is coming this week. We did not expect to have go through 10 testing versions of a new patch of Scania Truck Driving Simulator, but it turned out to be needed so that we can give you as much solid update as possible.
This Friday, we'll release a new patch for Scania TDS which will contain 2 new Dangerous Drives challenges. The tougher one will be used for our competition - the best 3 results in the Leaderboards as of Sunday Aug 5th 22:00 CET will be rewarded by a free digital copy of Euro Truck Simulator 2 - on the day when the game is released. (But remember - play fair, cheaters will be banned instead!)

Love the new video footage of the ETS2, but im a bit disapointed in the way the truck goes onto the train at the euro tunnel terminal, you dont even need to get the trailer on all the way, just the truck itself which is not very realistic, hope they change it before the release

It is normal that the back of the tractor to be this low, i know that trucks have hard suspension, it is quite low, or it`s a bug or maybe need just a tweak?

I would guess that this is because of the physics engine. If they put less mass for the trailer, then it doesn't slow down the tractor as it should, and probably has problems staying put on the road without sliding off at every hard turn. So they had to up the mass, problem then becomes that for the suspensions on the tractor to be affected properly by this secondary object (the trailer), the suspension power would have to be so high that your truck would be bouncing all over the place when you're driving it empty. Having played around a little with physics, I'd wager this is why. Sadly physics engine aren't quite there just yet...

DeleteThat looks good to me! Shouldn't the mass of the trailer cause this effect in real life? And if it doesn't I would never have noticed this small effect without being pointed to.
DeleteIf it was steel suspension then you expect them to sit low on the rear when loaded (though not that low) and high when unloaded as there is no self-levelling, if they are mimicking air suspension then sitting low would be indicative of some form of failure in the self-levelling system, as air suspension can only function well with a self-levelling system to change the pressure in the bellows vs. load.
DeleteAlso with trucks on air, you can normally change the ride height, though this is normal a case of being limited to up/down when stationary for e.g. loading rather than infinitely adjustable between two points while moving, as if you bottom the suspension out you are talking large forces when moving.
There is a fundamental to remember, there is NO chassis twist in game so the suspension dose 100% of movement e.g. driving of a kerb diagonally, whereas in real life ~50% of the kerb height would be accommodated with the chassis twist.
Its worth noting that in STDS there is some discrepancy between the gooseneck (container) trailer and the Scania R380 suspension, which when the two are connected causes the r380 suspension to rise up to meet the 5th wheel height, whereas on all the other trailers the suspension drops on the R380, this leads to the R380 & gooseneck trailer to be an unstable combination due to overly soft suspension with long travel which leads to jack-knife in unusual situations.
Personally myself I think they sit to low for either steel or air suspension, and if air suspension should level up a bit more to get a more constant height between loaded/unloaded like in STDS (excepting the gooseneck/R380 combination which is backwards although it does self-level!)
The Actros is 6x2.

There's a place on the STDS map which road you can't see on the map, it's going to some wood factory or something. To reach that place you have to go uphill a little but slow because there are cAt's and other things you may hit, now I know why I couldn't do it with a container, I couldn't get any grip.
DeleteYes, loss of grip in inopportune places with the gooseneck container trailer & R380 is another problem where the slightest gravel/dirt hill or “bump” is concerned, it happens both at the start of the dirt road to the logging camp and at the eastern road works on the dual carriageway where the dirt slip-road leads to the upper normal road, you can also come to a stop on the “speed bump” between the dual carriageway & dirt slip-road.
DeleteIt’s almost as if all the weight of the gooseneck container trailer is entirely over the trailer axels (irrespective of container type 20ft, 2 x20ft, 30ft, 40ft) which is why road gradient change (typically transitioning from flat to down hill) while turning on slight bends unloads the rear axle of the R380 momentarily causing jack-knife, or why sharper bends on the flat cause the R380 rear suspension to dip when towing a gooseneck container trailer due to the lack of pre-loading.

Manual gears for comparison as they get a little higher vs. auto gear, though other trailers will start in 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th gear on any part of the hill and 4th and 5th gear wont spin the wheels.

Hello friends of scs software, I am the Lanh Romao of Brazil, I wanted to take perhaps the greatest doubt of the Brazilians, because the effect of across america, that when the truck hits it gets crumpled in already starting across other simulators no longer this effect, cause? and also if there is any chance of this effect still come out in future games scs?

One thing though: We need the possibility to open the full map, so that we can see where the loads actually are supposed to be delievered, and plan the route accordingly. The way it is now, we have to drive randomely in somewhat the right direction, and see where it leads. (unless there is a full map function somewhere, which I've missed?)

Delete1. Just like ETS. You take "one time missions" from place to place.
2. Start your own company and hire truck drivers, buy trucks and buy your own truck. Work hard and see your own company grow.
You can either be a contactor, like in the beggining of UKTS, or a freelancer, like in ETS and a bit further into UKTS. You can pick and choose whenever you like. :)

Steam is a disaster! They're forcing their customers to play games produced by other companies and owned by the customer totally on Steams premices. Terrible!

ReplyDeleteGo to “options > Controller” and change the “steering sensitivity” slider, with the slider fully to the right the steering is fast, with the slider fully to the left the steering is slow.

That's because keyboard is a controller, isn't it? You CONTROL with it XD Btw, it always amazes me how people are blaming everyone for doing stuff wrong before they try to configure it by themselves.

The person is also NOT English but I have explained in English so I have tried to make it as clear as possible GIVEN the game may NOT be translated into their language so they may be using English menus which has caused additional confusion for them and obviously English may not be their fist language which also causes confusion.

I like the steering, i don`t know why ppl complain about it, maybe you like too arcade, the steering form STDS is more to a simulator, i don`t need a wheel now to drive.
DeleteI take the slider to the left lol, with 5 more spaces and i don`t think i make turns too slow. It is real right now, don`t change it SCS, arcade mode like in ETS 1 will ruin the game.
Anonymous, i don`t know how you can`t drive man, i haved problem too at the begining, but now from default i tooked the slider more to the left, to lower the sensitivity MORE, with about 5 spaces and it feels more real now, i like it a lot, try to take the slider to the right, then take it slower to the left untill you can be use to the default settings.
DeleteETS1 and any other SCS game has ARCADE steering, if SCS will consider to change this kind of steering that is from STDS i defenetly won`t look at any SCS`s game. Why? Because every company and every game must EVOLVE, not back down, if you want evolution this is it, STDS, not ETS1 where you can turn really fast and unreal, arcade.
my friend drive system of this game is very good just knowing how to configure, and hopefully ETS2 has the same drive system.

DeleteI hope that trafic in ETS2 wont be SO STUPID like in Scania driving truck simulator. It is annoying when I driving relaxed behind some other truck or car, and then he suddenly stops without reasen in front of me, normally I cant stop my truck loaded with trailer from 85km/h in 7-10 meters. And why are they let me pass when I dont have right of way? Yes it is solidarity, but they are doing that sometimes on wrong place and without logic. And please make gauges of trucks workable like on real truck,and it would be nice if the time, fuel consumption and mileage were like in real life. Anyways, you guys are doing great job, this is a big improvement compare to previous versions of truck simulators. :) Regards from Serbia, and sorry if my english was bad.

~85kph is ~23.611m/sec, reaction time is generally consider to be ~0.490sec on average to something you are partly expecting (try the in-game reaction tests), so that accounts for at least ~11.57m (so about a trailer length just in reaction time) which is then plus the trucks actual stopping distance which is about ~3 truck & trailer lengths in the dry in the game, so really you need to be a total 4 truck & trailer behind something which is just under 3sec gap @ 85kph!
The three second rule is a good rule even for cars -- at least three seconds gap between vehicles, regardless of speed. I suspect a lorry might need more to be on the safe side, though... Don't drive too close! (c:

Probably the big gab on that picture is because that trailer is for normal truck (not 6x4). Truck 6x4 is built for heavier and longer trailers. I think so.

Merc 6x4 like most makes of 6x4 tractor unit have longer wheel base than 6x2 twin-steer/mid-lift, it’s worth noting 5th wheel is slightly in the wrong place, it should be ~0.41m forward of the bogie centreline which is ~0.265m behind the 2nd axle.
DeleteAlso bare in mind that the tanker has little length forward of the kingpin unlike some of the other trailers in the game, so makes the gap look bigger than it would be with other trailers.
As for trailers there is much variance in real life as they are not all ISO or DIN size.

ReplyDeleteFirst Time i can now play a Truck Simulator, the STDS, because i have multiple input devices. The Game rocks!
But is it also possible to configure the old ETS to use multiple input devices? I have separate pedals and would love to play the good old ETS also.
