To be honest, I don't actually see why ETS fans are bashing ATS. I LOVE Euro Truck Simulator 2, the first one was pretty decent too! I trust SCS not to mess up ATS. ETS, ATS. In ETS you drive a truck around live as a european trucker. In ATS you'll be driving a truck in the US. Also, you can shut up about the US trucks always being too big, or just to show off because there ARE cab-overs! For example: The Kenworth K100.

Yeah, the DAF pics will be from mods. There are no DAF's in North America. The only trucks I see over here from the ETS2 game are Volvo's, but I admit, the ones here are alot uglier than the Euro ones. Still can't wait til this game comes out. I love the fact it looks like there are some actual city areas to drive through, and the graphics look awesome.

But the fact is the trucks are bigger over here due to many reasons (Bigger loads (Trains) wonder if they will be added to the game?, speed limits are faster, and I am told the interior space of our ugly trucks are supposed to be alot nicer to live in (More spacious)).

I'm from England, Back in the 1980's my dad was driving a White Road Commander II, It was the coolest looking truck on the road compared to the old ERF's Merc, DAF's and so on of the time.
DeleteBack then there were no speed governor's and nothing on the road could keep up with that truck. I don't know the HP it had but i do remember the speed, it would do 97 MPH ...not that he would drive at that sort of speed unless it was going down a motorway at 3am.
I love ALL trucks, Today i think the trucks from Europe look better but u there's always something about the older looking US trucks that looks amazing

Well surely it's not because you're European. :-D I'm European too and while I like European trucks, I LOVE those American and Australian beasts. Words can't tell how I'm looking for ATS.
In fact I suppose SCS knows very well that ATS will be marginal business in Europe, it's clearly focused on American market. And hell, it's high time to attack overseas market properly, number of ETS2 copies sold in United States and Canada clearly tells ATS can be absolutely huge success. It is known fact that American players prefer games set in environment they know, so if ETS2 done very well there, I can't imagine ATS numbers and various possibilities how SCS can invest these numbers into future projects (surely some of them set in Europe again).
In other words, wish ATS great success even if you don't like American trucks - because the result will be visible on everything SCS will do in future.

It will cover California (I guess maybe Nevada will be also included in initial release, because second picture could be from Las Vegas - but that's only my speculation). And there is a note on Excalibur Publishing that boxed edition will also include Arizona DLC for free.

Of course it's highly possible that SCS will expand it more and more, but if whole States or even whole North America will make it to the game, well, that's only a question of sales. Exactly, show me other game which is so massively updated two years after release and both free and paid new content is still produced. I can't count how much new free stuff and various improvements we got; vanilla and up-to-date ETS2 are almost two different games.
DeleteRemember how it was before, in 18WoS era with THQ/Valusoft? There were no add-ons and patches were rare. Oh, yes, there was a thing which could be called add-on, it extended Haulin' map and added two new trucks. But instead of releasing it as add-on to Haulin', Valusoft decided that extended Haulin' will be a new game called American Long Haul and sold almost same game twice. Those whinning kids writing their stupid, filthy and ungrateful comments on this blog should experience "glory" of those times.
But after divorce with that publisher, things were much better: we got free UK expansion for ETS, we got free Austria expansion for GTS, there were more patches. Even in those times, SCS acted better than most of other developers/publishers.
But what SCS do for players now? It's extraordinary, in one word. Such a support for two years old software, I repeat, show me comparable example. And it's still not over, we know about Scandinavia, we know recently there was another recording session to improve sounds even more and God knows what's in plan. SCS deserves so many thanks for that. If they decided that Steam services will be preffered, well, when you bought ETS2, no one said you'll get any update. Still you can have up-to-date game with many new features and content even without Steam (only some non-vital DLCs are Steam exclusive). Although I'm the last guy who is in love with Steam, I understand their services makes lots of things easier for developers and they can concentrate on making games and patches and new content - and not spending time with publishing infrastructure. I almost bet there would be not so many ETS2 updates and new content if there was no Steam, it keeps it alive to a considerable extent.

Guys, just think. It has been over a year that they announced they will be doing ATS. But they said they were only doing California first. 1 year to do 1 STATE. 1 YEAR! If it takes them over a year to do ONE state, will it take them 50 years or more to finish this game?!

Well, maybe they made so much streets, towns, cities in CA that only ATS' CA is practically the same size as ETS' France. Who knows.
DeleteI guess they actually want to make a good map this time instead of copy-pasting everything. I mean all of the screens we've seen so far look kind of nice and different.
I'd really rather drive trough 1 nicely moddeled, very detailed street 10 times than drive trough 10 bad, generic streets 1 time.
And besides that, they've also been working on Nevada (look at the second pic, that's in LV) and Arizona will be made after the release.
One year really isn't that long to make a map actually, especially not for a smaller team... You also need to keep in mind that they basicly need to do the same thing as normal city planners. They need to make maps, different traffic situations, gas stations, houses, etc.
But IDK, as far as I know, you could be right and perhaps SCS is really slow, perhaps ATS' map is also going to be a copy-paste job... I'm basing everything off of the pictures (and not only the ones posted on this blog).
yeah well bad thing about detailed cities is lag tho...look at ets2 tons of people lags in cities and its pretty generic roads etc...unless ATS takes nothing to run lol...
DeleteSurely not 50 years, California is third biggest of the States and for example 12 smallest States covers almost same area as California itself. Together with Nevada and Arizona, which are in (pre)production, we'll have something about 10% (raw guess) of the United States area. Then - who knows. SCS could delegate (or hire) even more people to work on American expansions, so it could be done faster. It all depends how successful the game will be on the market.
DeleteSince they are starting a new country they have alot of new types of buildings to create but once the major types are created they will be able to reuse them quickly in other cities. It should only be the beginning that takes longer. Unless they want to create unique looks for all the cities in which case it would take longer.
DeleteRealize that you can fit the entire ETS2 map inside of the US 2, nearly 3 times over. America is a big country.
DeleteSCS also already stated that the initial release of the game would only contain the state of California, and parts of Nevada. Don't worry your pretty lil' head.
On the other hand, we can only guess if ATS scale will be similar to ETS2 scale.
DeleteIt's not just the map, they've had to make new trucks (including sleeper/daycab variations and some tuning), trailers, traffic etc.
DeletePlus, a lot of the buildings are one-off landmark buildings or particular architecture styles only really seen in one area, such as the unique San-Fran houses.
Even the truck headquarters, service centre (seen in top picture), employment agencies, hotels, company depots etc are new.
Plus, we don't know if they've done any gameplay changes and ther innovations which will add time to the development.
It may be taking a long time but at least you can tell looking at pictures what city you are in. I cannot say the same for ETS2, it all looked pretty generic and similar to me and they didn't feel like the big cities they were modeled on.
I'd like to see in the future an australian "mod" or a full game, across the country road-trains with 3-4 trailers, narrow roads in the middle of nowhere.

DeleteSince the game is in the summer in ETS2, if they carried the same logic over to ATS (Canada), there would still not be snow, frozen lakes, ice ect.

ReplyDeleteAccording to Wikipedia, Merc C Class is sold (and also produced) in the United States too. But if you'll find another screenshot with a car which would be absolutely weird on American streets, keep in mind it's usual to take assets from previous projects and use them provisionally in current developed project. Sounds, textures, even 3D models... and as development continues, they are replaced with current made assets. If you will go deep into history of this blog, you'll find ETS2 pics from very early development state using assets from older SCS games, if I remember correctly, even some trailers from ALH. And of course it's usual method in every studio which made more than one game.

ReplyDeleteHopefully the highway system will not be flawed like In ETS2. It is so annoying when the rightmost lane exits constantly ( you are forced to the middle lane (which is a bad position because traffic is on BOTH sides of you undertaking and overtaking. I live in America and very rarely does the rightmost lane exit on the interstate highway system (in America we call it a highway) same thing as a motorway only bigger. (Everything bigger In America LOL!!!) cars, roads, etc.

Just like a drop load like everything else, but make it more populated like a regular carnival would be. i think it would be fun attraction to deal with also. It depends where exactly in ETS2, I agree that original map often gives soulless feel, but then something happened and Going East, especially Slovakia and part of Poland, are made with big heart and describing reality as good as it was possible - I feel like I'm almost there. And man, those pics from Scandinavia expansion displays even more passion during creation process. But definetely, ATS map will be their best creation ever, no doubt about it. You don't need a hint and you recognize LA or SF on first sight - in most ETS2 cities (I mean original, not Going East), you must look for unique buildings to recognize where you are without a map and still, there's no magic, you can tell you're in generic city. Can't wait to visit all those beautiful places in ATS.

ReplyDeleteJudging by your choice to show cartoonish skins on every truck, this game's target demographic is going to be 12 year olds again and the truck physics are therefore going to be the same as ETS2 or easier.

Glad to see another update about ATS. The pics look great. However..... If I may suggest.... we have some great pics of the trucks and scenery now.. what we need is some info about the game's playable features..........

Again.... more pics of the trucks, and some scenic views are great. But having some info about other ideas would be nice as well. Not just more pics of trucks. Especially when you mention that the trucks in the pics... we may not even be getting anyway due to license issues.
Well OMFG..... is that a "hill" in the last pic? I'll play ATS just for that freakin hill lol.. That is one of my complaints about ETS2..... it's too flat. More hills please.

The update looks amazing ..... and based on previous ETS2, ATS will be a first day purchase with no concerns or worries.
Please model the non-synchronized transmissions used in these American trucks in-game so that we have to rev-match when shifting gears. It will not only stop the game being too easy and boring for those who can already drive non-synchronized transmissions but it will also allow players to learn this technique and I think a good truck simulator should be able to teach people how to drive a truck.

You could also make it an option, like you currently have for "real automatic", so that those who want the feature can use it and those that can't can select an easier option (like how the H-shifter works in ETS2, shift into gear at any rpm ).

ReplyDeleteAnyway I would like to mention something I consider important. Semitrailers in the USA are commonly 53', aproximately a couple meters more longer than here on Europe. It would be good if you focused on those long semis, instead of the ones like the screenshot. The classic 53' wabash reefer... huge 53' tankers...
And just as a note, in the case you want to make the simulation better on the future: they also have tandem axles on the semi, which allows the backwheels to be moved forward or backward, when reversing, to change the pivot point.

ReplyDeleteThat's a good question.... so far though there's no official answer. I reason that the price of the ATS base game will be about the same as the ETS2 base game.
DeleteAccording to the SCS Offical Website the price of the ETS2 base game is: €19.95 / $26.95 to buy.
Amazon.co.uk have the game on preorder priced at £14.99 (which they can't increase if you preordered it at that price. So I'm guessing it will be around there.
DeleteETS2 and ATS should have an " instant replay " function from the last 3 or 5 minutes of gameplay. This way we could see our manouvers and all environement from diferent cameras.
