Velkomin til Reykjavíkur! Today, we're heading to Iceland's capital, Reykjavík, for a closer look at its recreation in our upcoming Iceland DLC for Euro Truck Simulator 2, which releases on November 10th, along with new Special Transport routes coming to the island. Ready to explore? Let's hit the road!
Located on the Seltjarnarnes peninsula, Reykjavík is the heart of Iceland and home to some of the country's most recognisable landmarks, offering a mix of urban life, beautiful waterfront views and surrounding natural landscapes.
Bringing Iceland's capital to life within our game's map scale presented some interesting challenges for our map designers. With the city centre situated on a peninsula, surrounded by numerous suburbs that make up the Greater Reykjavík area, space was limited. Our team had to carefully balance the city's road network, industries and famous landmarks whilst ensuring enough room remained for the surrounding landscape and destinations.
Of course, we couldn't miss out on recreating the well travelled Route 41, which connects Reykjavík with Keflavík! Winding its way through the capital, this important route takes drivers past various industrial areas and plenty of points of interest, eventually leading towards the city's iconic waterfront. You can also travel along a short section of Route 49, which connects the city to Iceland's famous Ring Road, known locally as Hringvegur.
Of course, a capital city needs its industries, and Reykjavík is no exception! Truckers will find a variety of depots spread across the city and its surrounding areas, each representing an important part of Iceland's economy.
Among the industrial locations you'll discover is the Straumsvík aluminium smelter, Iceland's first and longest-operating aluminium reduction facility. Further east, near Route 36, you'll also find a farming area in Mosfellsdalur, offering a different kind of delivery experience away from the busy capital.
Closer to the city, you can discover the coastal town of Garðabær, which are a part of Reykjavík's suburbs. Here, you can find an IKA store and a logistics hub. Towards the waterfront, you'll reach Sundahöfn, one of Reykjavík's most important industrial and harbour areas, featuring a large container port and a recycling company offering delivery opportunities.
Transport is a vital lifeline for many of Iceland's residents, helping to keep communities connected and essential supplies moving across the island. Near Reykjavík, you'll also find an oil storage facility, which plays an important role in supplying fuel to the capital and its surrounding region.
Truckers looking to take a break or make a new home in the capital will also find a Volvo truck dealership, a service station and a garage available to purchase in this area. However, there's much more to Reykjavík than just its industries! Our map designers have also worked hard to recreate some of the capital's most famous sights, particularly along its beautiful waterfront.
One of the most recognisable landmarks you'll encounter is the spectacular Harpa Concert Hall and Conference Centre. Situated right beside the harbour, this striking modern building is famous for its distinctive glass architecture. Just opposite, you'll also spot the Central Bank of Iceland, along with other familiar sights such as the harbour's iconic yellow lighthouses and the statue of Ingólfur Arnarson, traditionally recognised as Reykjavík's founder.
Further along the shoreline, keep an eye out for the Sun Voyager, a beautiful steel sculpture inspired by the form of a Viking ship, overlooking the sea. From here, you'll also be able to admire Reykjavík's unique skyline, dominated by the unmistakable tower of the Hallgrímskirkja church. This iconic landmark can be spotted from several locations around the city, including from a distance as you approach the capital.
Near the harbour, you'll also find a recruitment agency and a coach terminal, the latter having been relocated slightly from its real-world position to better fit within our map's scale.
Whether you're arriving in Reykjavík for a delivery, searching for your next job or simply exploring the capital, we hope you'll enjoy discovering the many details our map designers have included. But there's more to Iceland than its beautiful cities and scenery. For those looking for a bigger challenge, we've got a big delivery in store!
BIG in Iceland - Special Transport Routes

We're also excited to introduce a brand new cargo to haul, The Articulated Dumper! A massive piece of machinery previously only available in American Truck Simulator! Here's where you'll be able to take on these oversized deliveries:
- Selfoss to Selfoss
- Keflavík to Selfoss
