Euro Truck 2 retail edition update is available now

For those of you who still are resisting quick-day-one Steam update system, we have finally built the retail game update and uploaded it to mirror servers.

Please strongly consider use of mirrors instead of direct download, for faster speed and to avoid overloading of our own lines. Just last week one of our server capacity providers (we have three servers at different providers) requested that we switch to a higher-bandwidth higher-price tier for our machine, citing too much bandwidth consumed that they have hard time load-balancing. Keeping the game maintained for a long period of time does have it costs you see.

Please follow to ETS2 web download page for the download links.

    1. Might not have constant access to the internet and/or don't use steam at all so no point in having it for one game?

      Delete
    2. because not everyone thinks having to download Steam and all its added on garbage is worthwhile for one game .
I had steam for a previous game and it was constantly adding on bits for games i did not have in the hope i would then buy them
Also the download for Steam itself is more than the download for the actual game

    3. Because Steam has issues that some can do without. For instance, some people do not want or care for DRM and Steam is an example of that (a much better one than some, to be sure, but still some people might not like it).

Another issue is the fact that no matter how much you tell Steam you don't want a game updated, the said game would still be updated regardless of what the user wants (and the "do not automatically update game" command does absolutely nothing - sooner or later the game will be updated no matter what).

Then there is a simple matter of Steam servers acting up. So now thanks to Steam I cannot play a game "right now", because their server is down for maintenance or because of an error. That happens quite often and still pisses me off, despite the fact that I have been using Steam since it first became available.

The reasons above are just the tip of the iceberg though - some of the newer platforms, like Origin or Uplay are better at some things than Steam, but they are still an extra hoop I have to jump through in order to play a game that I have legally purchased. Nowadays I quite often reminisce about the old days, when I could simply buy a game in a store, pop the disk into the drive, install the game and hit play without having to create endless user accounts and memorize countless passwords.

So yes, I have Steam and I use it everyday, but I like having some games that are completely independent of a third party platform that sits between me and the game I legally purchased.

      Delete
    4. Because we can handle "resisting" using steam at the expense of waiting a couple of days extra for a game update.

I use programs if I want to use them, not because someone else wants me to. Using steam might make it easier for SCS, but I'm a customer not an employee so I don't have to say "yes, boss!".

I have no use for steam, I'm perfectly happy receiving delayed updates or not at all (if they become steam-only). Obviously if they become steam-only I would stop buying their games.

      Delete
    5. I downloaded Steam just recently (again), because you need it to buy Spin Tires.
Thought I'd check out ETSMP will I have it and goodness... I remembered why I disliked Steam so much.

I just want to play games, I dont want any advertisement from Steam, I don't want automatic updates, I don't want anything Steam does, I just want to play games...

I get that SCS likes it that they prefer Steam, but right now they're just trying everyone to FORCE everyone into using it. I don't want it and if it weren't for ST, I'd just keep Steam as a bad memory.

    6. They have an illegal version. SCS should stop supporting these parasites.

      Delete
    7. Yeah, SCS shouls save the bandwith money and move the game entirely on Steam.
"I dont want my games to be updated" :D :D then why do you want this update. You have one or two games and you are worried about constant updates. Obvious pirated copies.

      Delete
    8. Pirated copies? That's got to be the most pathetic argument on this entire blog. I bought my copy, fair and square, hell, I bought it before you could even buy it on Steam. I could even show the fucking invoice, the box and the CD, but I won't bother.

Even if you have a pirated copy, you just cannot install the patch on it, because every single patch needs to be cracked. And Steam is a really crap DRM system, it's so easy to crack Steam games, the only disadvantage you'd have for having a pirated Steam game is that you can't go online, but ETS 2 doesn't have MP, so who cares? You have obviously no idea what the fuck you're talking about, but I guess you're too dense to realize that.

      Delete
    9. if i buy a game that doesn't need steam from the beginning i don't make it to a steam version but if i have to install it with steam i don't have a problem with it so if ets2 would be a steam needing game from the beginning... then it would be in my game list...

      Delete
    10. What a stupid question??

Some of us have been supporting SCS for the last 5 years by purchasing our Eurotruck games on DVD, years before the little kids came along and started shouting ''put it on Steam, put it on Steam'', about time you lot were made to buy the DVD's instead of getting pirated copies off the internet.

  7. Thank you, I just noticed the title, you start calling this game "Euro Truck 2", the word "simulator" is taken away. I guess I'd better give up the hope for a decent physics in game. At least this will be a much better game without the word "simulator", otherwise, your will have to rework most of your old models and the driving physics.

  11. Somehow, after reading this blog post, I feel blamed and punished at the same time for having bought the retail copy of the game upon release date. Yeah, I see the way Steam is easier to handle things and free to distribute patches in relative to the use of paid servers.
But still, many of us have bought the retail edition of the game since release date and most of us won't accept the fact that we should be forced into the use of Steam.
I fully understand that servers are not for free and that some of the funds are being used to pay the providers to host the game updates. I really appreciate the work that has been done over the years since release, and that you are still keeping the game alive with the upcoming expansion and other small, yet important, updates.

I have been following these blog posts for quite a while and I see a lot of really ungrateful people demanding this and that and calling you stupid things, it's a shame that some people are disrespectful.

This comment is in no way meant as a critizism to any individuals or SCS software itself, but this comment contains my honest reflections. For those whom would skip right through the text or would stumble upon the word "Steam" - this comment was not and were not intended to be discussion about that. :-)

I do not want to use Steam and I get that SCS doesnt upload beta's for retail versions, but saying " For those of you who still are resisting quick-day-one Steam update system." is just not customer friendly, to say it lightly.
I'm very displeased by the way SCS threats people who don't want some stupid third-party system.
I paid for the game at the release and I demand a fair threatment, not some snappy comments from SCS.

    2. Whats the big problem with Steam? Its free and I have no problem with it. There servers are free, reliable and super fast which makes updating games effortless. It also happens to be the leading gaming platform for PC in the world with over 75 million users oh and they get about 10 million more users every 3 months. I really don't see the problem here.

    3. First of all, I have never used Steam.
How the Steam game client works, whether it is riddled with bugs or works flawless, that is not the case here. I believe it is a reliable game client since it has a wide spreaded mass audience who use it.

What I don't like is that Steam is the one who's standing between me and the company who made the game (in this case, ETS2).
To use the game, you have to relate to Steam end user license agreement, also known as the EULA. If you don't accept the terms you are obliged to follow, you don't get the permission to use the game or the software. That means if I dont want to accept the terms Steam wants me to follow by using their software, that means they can deny me to play ETS2.

Hey, which road did all your paid games take? How can you rely on Steam that the game licenses you have paid for is yours to keep forever?

Do people really question and understand what they are accepting?

I know that physical market won't live on forever, because of the digital age and possibly also to save the environment for use of all the materials that are required to produce physical copies.
All I want is that the consumer rights is being taken care of in the digital age.

Also, when the physical market is shutdown, Steam will have so much power to to want they want!

As for the first one who commented on my post, I also demand a fair treatment. For the continuation support of ETS2, I think they should make physical and digital copies of the game dlc until the end of support
For American Truck Simulator, I fully understand if they will go only digital with it.

    4. AnonymousJuly 30, 2014 at 12:05 AM: yes, you paid for game. So you got what you paid for. You should be happy that you are getting FREE updates more than 1,5 year after release. What would you think about if the future updates were only via Steam? It would be unfair? NO! You paid and you got what you wanted. You can not agree but that is only thing you can do - dont want use Steam? Dont! But dont say these shits.

      Delete
    5. Paal, you should give Steam a go its quite good really. You shouldn't be worried about the Steam user license agreement. Steam
(Valve Corporation) is a reputable company there never going to deny you from playing a game you purchased or abuse their power against gamers. Steam knows how to treat PC gamers properly and thats why it has so many users.

If I had purchased a retail copy of ETS 2 I would no doubt switch ETS2 over to steam and use their services for DLC/Patches its all taken care of and just plain simple.

Any game on Steam will stay with your account forever and even if you don't always have internet you can play in offline mode.

      Delete
    6. @Anonymus August 1, 2014 at 7:05 AM - Yeah, right, the offline mode on Steam is garbage - it only works for about two weeks. After two weeks you have to connect your Steam account to the Internet no matter what and at that point it will update everything and the kitchen sink in your library.

As for fast and reliable service - I have lost count how many times I was not able to play games in my Steam library due to Valve steam servers going down or undergoing maintenance (heck that happens even while I am playing a game - meaning that all of a sudden I cannot play multiplayer on Mass Effect 3 for example, even though I was just in a multiplayer match).

I do agree with you on one count though - EULA agreements mean sod all. They are not legally binding in any way, shape or form and cannot be properly enforced, so players should never worry about user agreements, unless they specifically mention that you can only install a game a certain number of times (yes, I am looking at you, Spore).

    Thank you SCS for update.
I was writing a email to Logitech about PC wheel for our game. It was difficult to reach to propper person, but maybe I was lucky. First of all I have received answer that their policy is to not get „unsolicited ideas, including ideas for new products, product improvements, new technologies, processes, materials, services, advertising or promotion campaigns, marketing, or new product names.” But I have explained them that I don't want a money for my idea, just want to have normal controller for truck simulator. And I think there is a light in the tunel. Today I have received the answer: „We appreciate your feedback, which I have taken on board. I will ensure your comments are passed to the relevant department for appraisal.” I don't know if it's true or not, but I think there is good moment „meet” SCS with Logitech... Please SCS try to contact with Logitech. It will be good for all of us, specially for the players. Maybe some of you can also write to Logitech in this case to show that this PC stearing wheel is the product which we are waiting for. If some of you will do this, you must register on their website and fill out the form.

Yes, I know. Alone I can do nothing. Second question is whether it will pay off to Logitech. But if we don't try, for sure we won't have that wheel. So in my opinion Logitech must speak with SCS in this issue. I think SCS is now strong enough to have controller for ETS2 and in near future for ATS. Your - players email to Logitech it would be also helpful.

    3. Correct me if i'm wrong but i'm pretty sure the G27 is perfect for ETS2, it has the 900 degrees, clutch, Gear stick and quite a lot of buttons to program. I know it's expensive but if u aren't in a position where you want to blow £250 on a wheel then the DFGT is also a very good match, the 900 degrees, many buttonsand even though it doesn't have a clutch pedal most truck being built are automatics so you could even use the sequentel gear stick as a truck parking brake like i do.

      Delete
    4. qbol from PolandJuly 30, 2014 at 7:06 PM

I'm also using 900 degree stearing wheel, but Genius Twin Wheel 900FF but I'm not happy of it, because it's for normal cars, not for trucks. Is G27 perfect for ETS2? Not quite. If I must spend 250£ for PC controler, I want to have product design for the game which I'm playing. Look at the pedals of G27 – they are design for sports car not for trucks. The wheel is to small and it should be set at a different angle . The shifter should have switch for „half gears”. It also should be different, bigger. The two jacks which are on the left and right side under the wheel are unnecessary, there could be retarder switch. In american truck there are very popular manual gear boxes, unsynchronized. I treat ETS2 not as a game, but simulator. If I had possibility driving truck, I wouldn't use simulator. So why can't make it almost real? G27 is now the best wheel for ETS2 but it's far from the ideal. And as you wrote before for 250£ we should expect much, much more. You can buy controller a specially design for formiula 1 (Thrustmaster Integral T500). Why can't we have special made for ETS2?

It took way more than 5 minutes, while in the past I could just download the torrent, watch one Youtube video or do another very short activity like going to the bathroom and then install it.

Yeah, have fun with your annoying third party bullshit, while others can decide for themselves how to patch the game.

I have my reasons for not wanting to use Steam, and other people have there reasons.
All I can say with Steam is that I've had really, really bad experience with it. And my crappy internet is one of the reasons.

When I first activated my ETS2 key on Steam and started to ''download'' it, I had to wait 3 days for the game and all the updates to be installed. With the DVD version I had to wait a few minutes, and wait 1 hour for the retail patch to be downloaded.
And only this new 1.11 patch for Steam, I had to wait 2 hours, and when I downloaded it from the website it took me around 1 hour. I don't know why, but it have something to do with my crappy internet.
And I have a few more reasons why I don't like and don't want to use Steam. But I'm not even going to bother trying to explain those reasons.

But thanks again SCS for still giving use non-steam users your awesome updates. :)

  45. Thank you SCS for listening to the community. I have been unhappy with the physics that came in 1.9 but now with 1.11 I must say the physics feel restored and are basically back to what it was in 1.8 but better.

The addition of the trailer stability slider is just we needed for people who like a simulation and the handling/steering is also greatly improved. This game has come along way thanks again.

  57. SCS, please. Could put a specific date, that when more or less with a new DLC, trailer Scania, Daf XF, Mercedes-benz, or even some new patch will come,...? just to have an idea if coming year ?, or even to the end of the year 2014, because when an update comes out, the game is buggy, red trucks, bad mirrors, so we have to take all mods and redo them, to make updates, the maps or even mod truck, i want to make new mods for version 1.11, if in case an update out next month for example, not worth doing mods, you know .... Please answer this post. Thank you.

can you make ORIGINAL blinker, gear change (interior-exterior), brake (engine brake, emergency brake, retarder) etc. sounds for separately all of each truck?
IVECO seems ok with +50gb sounds record for all of these sounds. whats next? :)

  65. The sound!! I drive a Scania Streamline V8 and I use cab view. While driving all I can hear is the bloody wind howling and a little bit of engine sound, when it rain, the rain noise completely covers the engine sound so all I can hear is rain drop and windshield wipers. I'm going to switch to DAF after this trip because DAF have louder engine sound, even though it's fake engine sound. Scania is a good truck but this update ruined it, I feel like driving something like a god damn 2 doors hybrid car!!! I mean come on, where's the sound of trucks?! I like the stock Scania engine sound, not the V8 one. Will you please do something about the sound??

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. rain sound fixed with this patch. I think its good enough, better than old one. you can't hear enough of everything, if you play this game with laptop. try to buy headphone, and open the sound at max :) . real trucks in cab sounds are quiet enough. they are all long range vehicles, which driver want to ride in a noisy cabin for long roads? I love scania V8 too. but, I think, Scania's V8 in cab sounds better than old patch, I know its not good enough yet for V8 fans. I think SCS did epic fail for recording scania V8 sounds, because that truck got pipes, havent got normal exhaust like other trucks, so its howling. Im sure they will improve all of sounds...
my real life experience for truck sounds: SCANIA R480 (2011), R580 Streamline, Volvo FH 500 (2010) and FH16 750 (2014). I will try find other brands for experience. I love trucks so... :P

    2. I don't really know how many people here actually had driven or have been driven inside the real modern european truck... Step out please to confirm my following words...
I considering myself a lucky one, I have been driven in new scania R (not streamline). On the highway ride, on small roads, you hear nothing of the outside, Its truly as quite as driving a mercedes-benz. The only thing you hear: very tiny engine mumbling, little bit of wind hiss, maybe bit of tyres. There sure nowhere near accentuated engine noise. Dont mix up with old 90x trucks where the noise was all over the cabin.
I think this time SCS went for realism with this one and IMO succeeded. But sure people complain anyway, because "their uninformed guts" are telling "there should be noise".

Also the amount of noise also depends of your audio equipment, higher quality gear you have you would probably hear a different picture, which is truer to what has been recorded. Also make sure you disable any equalization on your audio cards, as its distorts sound pretty too.

    4. Infinity is right. I have been in a real Scania R440, they don't make much noise in the cabin. Pretty much the only time you hear the engine are when your claiming a steep hill with a heavy load.

I can't say anything about other trucks or how much noise a V8 makes. But every time a Scania V8 drives by me on the city street, it's pretty quiet. I can tell it's a V8 on the sound, but it doesn't make too much noise.

    1. In fact most places in the game are not like in real life. Sometimes close, sometimes not even close to reality. (And there are many nonsenses even in SCS's homeland.) But after all, it's a game, it's not Google Earth. And of course there must be compromises due to gameplay and level design and human/time resources SCS can put into ETS2 map development. I wish the map could be done much more realistic, especially Czech, Austria and Germany parts, but I guess it was not possible to make it better with the litmits SCS have.

    3. I don't understand why people are so obsessed with the number of drivers we can hire, while they aren't even there! They're just a script, calculating a delivery and it's costs and income.

I would much more prefer that our drivers would be physically on the map, and that we can actually SEE them pass by on the road once in a while. I think that would be much better, even if it meant we could only hire 50 drivers.

      Delete
    4. I agree, being able to see our drivers on the roads is on top of my list of features I'd love to see added to the game. It would give the whole business side of the game a new dimension.

To move HQ, you just move your driver to another garage, and voila! New HQ

When will the Map between Switzerland and Austria get fixed?
Whole Liechtenstein is missing, and the swiss A13 Autobahn is inside Austria on the map... actually, A13 is the boarder between Switzerland and Liechtenstein/Austria... (links swiss A1 and swiss A2)

The austrian A14 is correct on the map, totally inside Austria

Keep up the good work! Thx!

  87. I'm not sure what SCS is thinking but.... if they were trying to make the ETS2 game realistic then IMO they are still failing on a few ideas.

    (1) Emergency vehicles..... How difficult is it to figure out that in such a game as ETS2... especially if you're trying to make it as realistic as possible.... you need emergency vehicles. But... not one AI police car, ambulance, or fire truck seen anywhere in the game. How is it that SCS would create an entire AI system of cars in a Truck driving game (with police serveilance of speed limits with penalties) but not come to the understanding that the appearance of police vehicles would enchance the game's realism?

    (2) Seasons...... Now with this complaint lets be reasonable. SCS took the time to create an in-game clock that keeps track of not only the time of day... but also the days of the week. In addition.... SCS took the time to create day and night... as well as rainy weather. So I have to ask.... would it have been that much of a stretch to add the months of the year as well.... and snow.

    (3) Trailers ...... Maybe its just me but.... in a game, written for the purpose of, and dedicated to.... truck driving ..... i'm thinking that it's only logical to assume there would be the option to buy trailers. Doesn't that sound like a no-brainer idea? It is after all a truck driving game. Should SCS be surprised to hear people complain about not being able to purchase trailers for their trucks?

In addition.... you need to choose a logo with your new profile that is never seen again once your profile is created. An in-game emailing system that is used about 4 times (twice from the bank) then goes poof for the rest of eternity. Drivers that are never seen.... who are driving your purchased trucks that also dissappear somewhere in cyberland. And cargo pickup and drop points that I guess are dedicated only for you.... as it seems the rest of the game world has their own ghost warehouses and don't need to use yours. Oh... and if I may add... I agree with the fatigue idea and needing to stop to rest.... very good.... but i'm wondering how much longer my driver (errrrrr me) can go without food. It's not ok to drive without adequate sleep but.... starving to death lol... not a problem.

But luckily... being that the SCS team is apparently a group of very smart people who continues to spend literally months on .... vegetation, metallic paint, seat adjustments, and other much needed miscellanious nonsense...... we can all very happily play a truck driving game that doesn't in totality make realistic sense while waiting for SCS to finally hire someone who actually knows what the freakin hell their doing.

    One can dream.
