Extreme Trucker 2 on the shelves in Germany

We have received confirmation that 18 Wheels of Steel Extreme Trucker 2 is now available on store shelves in Germany, of course localized into German language.

The Extreme Trucker games are aimed at a somewhat different audience than what perhaps constitutes the majority of the visitors of our blog. The games are supposed to appeal especially to younger players, with more arcade approach. And they were also developed on very lean budgets, with as much material as possible re-used from the earlier 18 Wheels of Steel games, and many of the new 3D assets created at the same (lower) level of detail to keep things in line. Such is the reality of the PC games retail market in the USA - for the publishers there it is hard to justify higher budgets on such niche genre games, they just don't see the sales potential there for a serious sim.

But still, Extreme Trucker 2 is a work of love of a small dedicated team inside SCS Software, and they worked really hard. They did their best to overcome the limitations of the legacy material to produce a game with a few good hours of fun packed into it, with two all-new maps and new areas added to the old maps to give players lots of new stuff to explore. We are biased of course, but the maps have spots in them that we think are the best looking sceneries in any SCS-developed games so far. With new eye candy effects in the graphics engine, and big parts of the physics code and the traffic AI code rewritten, we think the game is worth trying. In many areas, there are glimpses in the game of things under development for Euro Truck 2.

Extreme Trucker 2 is distributed in Germany by rondomedia.

Official website of 18 Wheels of Steel Extreme Trucker 2

Today we are happy to announce unveiling of the official website for our new truck driving game - 18 Wheels of Steel Extreme Trucker 2. Valusoft, the game's publisher, should start shipping the retail version of the game across Northern America this month. Other countries are definitely going to follow, we are actually already working on integrating translations for German, Russian, Hungarian, Czech and Polish releases for a start. Also we understand licensing discussions are ongoing for Scandinavia and France.

As usual, there is a gallery, so do not forget to check out another set of screenshots from the final version of the game, and the number of movies will be extended very soon by a cinematic teaser.

Driving in Bangladesh

Beta testing of Extreme Trucker 2 is well under way. In a previous post we have showed you a few scenes from Montana. Now let's focus on the other all-new map to appear in 18 Wheels of Steel Extreme Trucker 2. Here are several pictures from Bangladesh, you can find even more in our Extreme Trucker 2 beta testing facebook gallery.

We have received a few complaints that we put too much attention to this game, not giving you enough news about Euro Truck Simulator 2. Please be patient - right now, pretty much the entire SCS team concentrates on wrapping up this project. Yes, Extreme Trucker is a simpler, specific concept, aimed at a younger player, perhaps not deep enough for fans of the more complex Simulator line. But it's a very important project for keeping SCS Software in the business, and being able to continue working on the more serious simulation projects.

Soon we will shift our full attention to Euro Truck Simulator 2 finally, and we'll be happy to give you more news about what is happening with it. One little hint of good news coming soon is that we'll soon be starting on 3D models for dashboards and cabin interiors of Magnum, Premium and Actros - and we are pretty confident that the names and logos will be there in the final game!

Last but not least - don't forget to vote for your favorite fansite on the right side poll bar. We would like to get a feeling about the popularity of the various fans sites out there!

Revisiting Extreme Trucker

It is finally time to start showing you more from the second project under development at SCS Software currently - 18 Wheels of Steel Extreme Trucker 2. This game is actually supposed to be finished much sooner that ETS2 - to be available on the market very early next year already.

Extreme Trucker 2 is a project commissioned by ValuSoft. While SCS is the developer, we do not decide on the features and we do not own the resulting product; it belongs to the game's publisher - the game is created on order and budget provided by ValuSoft. Those of you who know the previous game are surely aware that the aim of the games is a bit different than where we are headed with "serious" simulator series - it is simpler, there is no deep "tycoon-style" gameplay included, it's more arcade-like, quicker to get into and enjoy driving in very diverse conditions around the globe.

Extreme Trucker 2 builds on the previous game, but it's not just a small facelift. We are adding two new maps, but all the older maps have been extended too. There should be a glimpse in the new game of the all-new physics system that we are developing, also the AI has undergone major upgrades (and we'll keep on improving it further). We also did important work on the effects system, it will be most noticeable on the way the truck lights work at night.

A few pictures here on the blog, a larger gallery has been posted a short time ago on SCS Software's facebook page.
