1.58 Update: Driving Academy - Double Trailer Handling

In today's blog, we're happy to share some news for everyone who enjoys putting their skills to the test in our Driving Academy game module. The upcoming 1.58 update for both Euro Truck Simulator 2 and American Truck Simulator will introduce a third module, called the Double Trailer Handling, full of brand-new scenarios. Let's take a closer look at what's coming!

Since Driving Academy has been available for some time now, most of our players are likely already familiar with it. However, if you're not, you can learn more about it in this blog post about the Truck Driving Basics module and in this follow-up blog that focuses on the second module, Truck Driving Proficiency.

This time, our team took a deep dive into how we could pass on more hands-on know-how about handling trucks with two trailers, better known as doubles. We've put together a set of challenging scenarios that guide players step by step through forward driving, manoeuvering, and reversing with doubles.

The Double Trailer Handling module should be approachable for anyone who's completed Truck Driving Basics, building on what you've already learned with a single trailer. If you haven't played Truck Driving Proficiency beforehand, it's not a problem, but it can give you a helpful head start.

The experience is split into three chapters, beginning with forward-driving maneuvers, then easing players into the techniques needed to reverse double trailers. From there, it shifts into more lively, real-world-inspired scenarios where you can really put your newly gained skills to the test.

We also wanted to mix things up a bit, which is why players in ETS2 and ATS won't be getting an identical set of scenarios. Instead, each game features its own tailored challenges and a different type of double trailer. In ETS2, you'll get hands-on experience with the Euro Combi double trailer, while ATS drivers will take on the challenge of B-Double. While this combination might not be the most common sight on U.S. roads, it offers a great opportunity to really test your skills in handling and maneuvering a long, tricky setup comprising of a tractor with two trailers, and to use your knowledge with other trailer combinations.

To make it a little bit more interesting for you, we decided to include a few pairs of scenarios focused on reversing the same manoeuvre but with a different starting set-up. First, you will learn how to handle the situation when your trailers are straightened up. Then, you can try the next scenario, where the truck and trailers do not start in a perfectly aligned position, adding an extra challenge by requiring correction from the start. This unaligned position of the truck and trailers is the most common situation drivers can get into.

Just like in the previous modules of Driving Academy, we have prepared a reward for you! Completing all the scenarios in this chapter will reward you with an adorable wiener dog toy - named Frankie - for your truck cabin, ready to ride along with you. Keep in mind that this reward is tied to the in-game profile you used to complete this chapter. And you can also get an achievement called "Double Trouble" after successfully completing twelve scenarios in this module.

And that's it for today! We hope you are excited to try out these new scenarios when the Double Trailer Handling module is released. Just remember that everything you see here is still a work-in-progress.

Driving Academy - Truck Driving Proficiency

Today, we have an update regarding Driving Academy. Our teams are currently working on a new set of scenarios for Driving Academy for both Euro Truck Simulator 2 and American Truck Simulator which are really going to test your trucker skills when it arrives in the future! While this new chapter won't be, unfortunately, part of 1.54 update we still think you may be excited to read and see what the future holds.

We released Driving Academy as a free update in October last year where we introduced sets of scenarios in 5 chapters from truck driving basics to more advanced challenges. We were inspired by many of our players who have used our games to get a sense of handling a truck and trailer, and learning how to maneuver and reverse. Now, after a few months, we wanted to take it a step further with a set of much more challenging scenarios which will be a part of the upcoming module called Truck Driving Proficiency and will test even the most skilled drivers to the limit. Please keep in mind that everything you see in this blog can change as the Truck Driving Proficiency for Driving Academy is still a work in progress.

For this new module and set of scenarios, we will also introduce a new reward system. The most important thing is still to precisely complete a scenario by driving along the designated path and avoiding any collision. For proficiency level, there may be additional conditions you will have to meet to successfully pass the scenario.

New in this upcoming module, players will be able to achieve up to 3 collectable stars, which can be earned by meeting additional conditions such as only using the interior camera, limiting gear shifts between drive and reverse, or completing the scenario in the set time.

Our goal is to test the players' skills and let them prove themselves as top-tier drivers, solving each scenario on their own without step-by-step guidance. That's why in this module you won't find any pre-recorded video tutorials, and you will have to use all the knowledge we taught you in our first module of Driving Academy.

But there is more. As we already mentioned in the 1.54 Open Beta blog, Driving Academy will also get new content in the upcoming 1.54 update. Everyone who has completed or will complete the entire first module of Driving Academy will receive special rewards to use in the base game - a hanging blue traffic cone cabin accessory and a customizable Driving Academy paint job for your truck. And that's not all - more rewards will be available for completing the upcoming Truck Driving Proficiency!

Make sure to follow us on social media (X/TwitterInstagramFacebookBluesky, and YouTube). We'd also really appreciate it if you could sign up for our newsletter to stay informed, even when you're not able to check out the blog or our socials. Until next time, drive safe!

Driving Academy Release

Today, we are very happy to announce that Driving Academy is now available for Euro Truck Simulator 2 and American Truck Simulator! A few weeks ago, we announced this new game module in this blog and showed you a preview of it in some of our live streams, and now you can finally try it out for yourself.

As was mentioned in the previous blog we released about Driving Academy, we are venturing into new territory, inspired by years of feedback from players who have told us that our games have helped them grasp the basics of truck driving. Many have used it to get a sense of handling a truck and trailer, learning how to maneuver and reverse. With this in mind, we thought we'd take it a step further with this free update which includes sets of scenarios designed to improve and expand these skills in a fun and captivating way.

We've prepared a short video just for you, explaining everything you need to know about Driving Academy. It also includes a brief yet comprehensive guide on how to get started and make the most out of the game module.

This new game module will provide you with various scenarios of increasing difficulty inspired by instructions given to real-life students. You will go from basic driving to navigating intricate courses and complex parking maneuvers with a detailed explanation via driving instructions including diagrams, pointers, and directions. We also wanted to allow drivers to analyze their drive so we have implemented a new replay feature into this game module as well.

If we get positive feedback from our community, we would love to continue creating additional scenarios and special challenges in the future that real-life truck drivers may encounter on the road. Our dream is for this game module to offer a deeper understanding of both truck driving and the underlying systems, as well as when to use them. But that is still a long way to go.

We hope you will enjoy this new game module. Make sure to share your videos or photos with us by tagging us on social media (X/TwitterInstagramFacebook, and YouTube), we are really eager to see those! Also, keep your eyes on our channels so you do not miss out on more upcoming Driving Academy content.
