Stuff we are working on

Our recent blog posts may have concentrated too much on non-development stuff, and you are probably quite tired of links to sales charts, press articles and app stores. Sorry, let's turn the page and start giving you glimpses of things that we are working on again.

Today we have a teaser shot of a new 3D truck model that was built from ground up in recent weeks. This truck tractor is not going to appear in Euro Truck Simulator 2 though, it is created with the plan to use it in a different game ;-).

The good thing about this 3D model is that it uses roughly half the polygon count of our highest-detail ETS2 trucks, yet due to smarter system of shading and rendering and the use of surface normal textures it looks even better, while consuming less video memory.

    1. That's Great work, for another game. How about this one. The ETS2 page hasn't been updated since October 5, 2012. What have or will you do with the present project in regards to the promised DLC, and updates?

  4. Do you ever fix the problem with black bars at the top and bottom of the screen? (4:3, 1280x1024)

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Game is developed to by best shown on widescreen. So you can easily fix it by changing your monitor.

      Delete
    2. 1280x1024 is also 5:4 aspect ratio, not 4:3

      Delete
    3. Also as player with 5:4 monitor can't say, that this is much an issue. Width of monitor are used perfectly, giving pretty decent angle of view. Adding 2 cm of dashboard and roof (on place of black bars) wouldn't change anything, and narrowing field of view for perfect usage of monitor height is just stupid.

  7. Okay, it seems my comment didn't make it, I'll try again.
Considering I look out the windshield most of the time or let's even say I used the view from/above the roof, there're no replays, AI don't use these complex models, how big an impact would this really have?

    1. The same technology can be used for the AI vehicles, and probably for the scenery as well. I guess the above model is just a proof of concept.

Hi Sabre, I want you to know that, in a recent past, I've been one of those that's been criticizing you about the lack of "real" news.... Well, please know that this post is AWESOME and I'll be one of your best ambassadors of your great work!! It seems that you finally got the message that we want to hear about what you're developing because we LOVE what you're doing! Please keep posting about your projects and not just statistics, even though they ARE great news as well, money-wise! And THAT'S great news for EVERYBODY !! :)

Thanks Pavel ! You're doing a fantastic job ! And that's coming from a guy who drives those machines in real life !!!! ;)

  15. Your biggest mistake will be that you will make more games instead bring ETS2 to perfection, expand maps and even change the name to World Truck Simulator2, I first will not buy 18 wos, etc....simply does not make sense and money...
    sorry..

    1. Well keep in mind that there are different communities with different wants, the EU communities have been provided with lots of great EU-based Truck Simulators, but now it's time for the US communities to be in the spotlight, we've been longing for an American based Truck Simulator, lots of us are still using 18wos Haulin! We can definitely use a US-based Truck Simulator, it's time that we all take turns.

    2. Well said buddy !

    3. As an European citizen, even i would love an US Truck sim. It's about time. -Mads

      Delete
    4. I know my friend that has a lot of communities, I'll try it another way, we already have UK in ETS2,right,
and now they make a UK Simulator 2, is it not foolish?
Why not make US and then from Portugal with a boat for America, a very simple....expand the world....!
For me it was a waste of time.
And I'll tell you one thing,I bought 18 wos only once
...and drive to the end of game ..and that was is it.. i mean WTF..that was game??? Sorry but that the way it is...no more austria,uk ,german this and that ...do not even know how many there are more...

      Delete
    5. I dont have a problem with the development of USTS as long ETS2 will be simultaneously progressed and the games could be combined.

      Delete
    6. Dino , you're so right about this topic. But I'll tell you this , SCS started to be greedy about money. They promised us that they will upgrade ETS2 to the end before new game comes out. But they're showing us busses and US trucks... obviously they're wasting their time with other games will come out. but lets say they're just wasting 15% of their time on ETS 2. I bought this game just because they promised the game development will countinue. I hope they will not become greedy like other developers , and they will not turn us down. Time will tell. Since I have the control the spend my money. They better be royal to their community.

      Delete
    7. Stefan, you are wrong. Improving of ETS2 is still running with no less effort than before. This truck was made by another team.

      Delete
    8. How is that a mistake? A mistake would be to keep adding stuff to ETS2 for free/cheap and not have anything to sell a year on when the interest for ETS2 has dwindled. SCS needs to have a contingency plan.

      Delete
    9. Stefaun, you don't think the guys at SCS have already put in overtime to satisfy your needs and wants for ETS2? By adding fixes and packs and whatnot? I myself play ETS2 and I love the game, but it's time that SCS should try a new playing field, the roads of America, we can use another US truck game, it's been ages since we've last had one and we're willing to pay top dollar for an American Truck Simulator! That's tons of money that SCS shouldn't miss out on!

      Delete
    10. It's been since 2007 we had last American Truck Sim and it wont detract from ETS2 heck, want Eastern Europe and Southern Europe add on too. Miss the chrome trucks and cb chit chat, and the open deserts.

      Delete
    11. People like Dino obviously know nothing about marketing.
Adding stuff to ETS 2 for free or trying to develop a new money generating a new income...

It's either new games or 1 perfect game and a bankrupt company.

I don't think DLC is needed, with all the good modders.
Patching the game (and especially the technical stuff) is needed though.

      Delete
    12. Yes, Dino is stupid!
So .. You would buy "Eurotrucksim2" when his name will be Worldtrucksim2,and had it all in the one game?America rusia and rest of the countrys and stuff!
you rather have 40 shortcuts on the desktop of :ats ,ets ,gts ,ukts ,18wos and more instead of one?
      sry on english...

      Delete
    13. Actually you are right Dino, you are stupid.
Making a game featuring the entire world will probably take 189 years...
Not to mention that it would probably cost €1500...

  16. If we're going out on the American highways; count me in :D

  17. I hope this new game is 18 Wheels of Steel. I really enjoyed Across America. Really hope that 18Wos series will be back.
Nice news about optimization btw, the optimization in ETS2 is good anyway (20fps on max settings with 512mb intel hd graphics is quite good), but 2 times more performance with better look is always nice to see. =) Good luck with development.

    2. SCS mentioned something about American Truck Simulator, so uhhh... 18 WoS might be replaced.

      Delete
    3. 18 WoS was comissioned by ValuSoft (USA). ATS is their own project, that's the difference.

  19. Highly pissed off that you have already started new bloody platforms when you have models in ETS2 that are WAAAAAAYYYYY off in terms of dimensions and shape. Concentrate on one bloody platform and build on that, even if it means incorporating it into one big big game.

    1. Get lost! Perfection doesn't exist! They're already pretty close to it anyway! They are GAMES! Variety IS important to keep the studio running! Don't you think that we're lucky enough to have the games that we have...???!!! It's a NICHE market.... understand it!!!

      Delete
    2. I understand the market very well considering I have taken part in creating a game that is on steam, however I wish for my identity to remain anonymous to avoid any sort of media conflict etc. What I will say is that SCS are starting to bite off more than can be chewed, they're not a huge company and ETS2 customers want this game updated CONSTANTLY. While they're away building a whole new sim that isn't going to happen and these DLCs they proposed are going to take longer and longer. Don't start a new game if your old one isn't finished yet, and by that I mean lots of the bugs that remain and geometry that needs fixed. Some trucks don't even look similar!

      Delete
    3. Look, they've already explained that they're divided into small teams, each working on a specific project, so that working on ATS shouldn't have any effect on the ETS2 development. They HAVE to get NEW income sources or they won't survive. Please understand that.

  20. nice! Apparently they are having ideas to produce a next game. I play Euro Truck Simulator 2 and taste but has some problems such as: TRUCK NO PASSING OF 90 KM / H! THE GAME IS BUT WITH EXCITING TIME IS boring because YOU DO UPGRADE IN THE TRUCK AND HE HAS NO INCREASE IN MAXIMUM SPEED! THIS HAS NO SENSE!!!!! I am a consumer, I love the simulator and so I say this because this is my opinion, not in German Truck had this to stay in the 90 km / h forever. I know you want to improve but why file name starts FOR GOD'S SAKE! that Euro Truck 2 is good but could be better if it had this inconvenience. Please!

    Thank you, From Brazil!!!!!!

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. You play a Truck SIMULATOR and you wonder why the truck won't go above 90 kmh? What do you think they do in real life? Idiot.

      Delete
    2. Not everywhere have speed limiters on trucks, like here in the good old US of A. I have seen big rigs doing 65mph+.

      Delete
    3. The only reason you think he's an idiot is because you're an idiot yourself! If you weren't one, you'd have had the common sense to consider that maybe he just saw a simulator and liked it, and got it, and that he still doesn't know that there is a limiter in Europe. He comes from Brazil, so maybe there is no speed limiter in trucks in Brazil. Those words wasted calling him an idiot could have been used to explain to him, even in fewer words, that most trucks or all trucks in Europe have limiters built in.

SCS does a great job with the visuals, I'm just hoping they don't shrink down the US to much. 1 hour of real driving time to cross the great 48's would be a bit to small. I drive ETS2 to see the sights not just to pick-up and drop-off.

  38. In American Truck Simulator you should have truck stops with dinners so your driver has to sleep and eat and you can order a take away coffee and put it in your cup holder so if your so sleepy the coffee boosts your energy by it.and it lets you get out of your truck only when you refill and enter the dinner.

Some kind of link up with Google maps for road data and combine that with an auto Gen scenery like in fsx (eg just define an area on the map as city or town or rural and the auto Gen will populate it with appropriate building types on the fly). Could allow for bigger maps with minimal time spend hand balling them

    2. No wonder, how SCS's maps are more and more detailed, it's more and more difficult for modders to achieve same quality. It's obvious since GTS, there are not so many new and good maps for any SCS game since end of 2010. Making map for Haulin' or ETS was a hobby, making map for ETS2 is hard work. :-D

      Delete
    3. @ Alex: Oh but I know how hard is to make a map because I've tried to edit and because I lack much time with the details needed to make it, I've quit my project. That's why I really respect your work as well as other modder's work. Just that it wouldn't be bad to see a map update once in a while. If not every week, at least at 2 weeks. PS: If you've reached Hungary, make also a road to Romania. :)

  87. I would really like to have that picture as a wallpaper. You guys at SCS should make a wallpaper section on your homepage. Give me that picture in a high resolution 1920x1080 and I will be a happy man!

  88. Finally a new US truck sim from SCS! Was almost thinking they forgot about the US truck fans. I was waiting for a new one since ALH. Good luck with the development of the game! Can't wait, if you need any testing: please contact me on IAAG66.com

    Best regards,

  89. Can you please please, include the eastern coast in this new game? I would love to drive Toronto, Ottawa, Montreal, Boston, New York City, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, Buffalo, Washington D.C. It would be truly a dream if you were able to travel the entirety of North America in one of your releases. Or at least just get some U.S. and Canada up in this game. I mean eurotruck simulator likes all the different languages, you need quebec in an american truck simulator to give the street signs some variation.

  99. Ok Guys take it ez we can have the best of both worlds if SCS thinks this through why not have cargo shipped from the US to Europe and from Europe to US to be delivered, This way we can have the best of both worlds, Good for the gamers as well as SCS.

I love ETS2 as I have played about all the sims SCS has made. So lets see what SCS has to say about it.. maybe it can be a combined effort.

  100. Is it just me or do people on this blog (or blogs in general) seem to freak out and go emo over the slightest bit of criticism or advice on here no matter how well worded it is?

  101. It's interesting, I am an American and I enjoyed 18 Wheels of Steel, but I'm not sure an American Truck Simulator would be as fun as ETS2. I say that because the roads that are typically used by big trucks in America are mostly interstates, and those are pretty boring. I like ETS2 because there are so many smaller, winding roads, through different terrain like mountains and farmland. In America, big trucks don't really use many roads like that.

  102. Really its going to be released in 2015. So disappointed me.

    1. Map building takes hours ETS 2 took 2.5 years to complete, and USA is massive land mass compared to western Europe so rather they do it right and take their time. ETS 2 play it on my days off its at same level of simulation as X-plane and fsx. It takes till 2017 fine with it as they can make side games like world of trucks and good ETS2 dlc add on . Like to see time zones, and weather system and seasons. Prefabs need single point interchange and diamonds, but a lot of objects in ETS 2 can be reused in ATS like water towers, power lines, trash cans.

  109. Make an Aussie truck simulator with real trucks like kenworth not Renault or Mercedes and in the game make it you can apply for a job at like woolies for a truck driver and you have to get up get in your car and drive to the depot go to the office get your paper work find your truck and leave going around to towns making multiple drops
