SCS Blender Tools



While looking at the amazing stuff that our fan community is producing, we cannot help but admire the passion for our games. But of course the tools are the key for creation of the best results. We are aware that despite valiant efforts to reverse-engineer our formats, the current tools in the hands of the modding community aren't ideal yet.

Today we would like to announce that we are working on SCS Blender Tools, which we will make available for everybody with creative passion for our games.

As you may have already guessed we will use Blender to base our SCS Blender Tools on. Blender is fast, flexible, with good documentation and most importantly Free, without need to worry for having expensive licenses for commercial packages like Maya or 3d Studio Max.

SCS Blender Tools we are building are going to be 100% "developer grade". The package will be using exactly the same approaches and workflows we use for creating our games, in fact some people on SCS team plan to start using them on a daily basis, replacing current tool pipeline. With SCS Blender Tools, it will be possible to comfortably create models, texture them, assign and tweak correct materials, and export everything to the engine.

The plan is that with SCS Blender Tools it will cover everything - from the simplest models of buildings to fully fledged trucks, just as us developers are doing it. With provided documentation we hope to see even higher quality creations from our modding community. With community-created assets in source form compatible with SCS Software's internal processes, and with the map editor a native part of the game itself, this may open up huge opportunities for the future.

      - why i have to pause the game to turn on the radio or change station or play the next song.
      - there is no varity on the road (small truck .bikes,...).

    3. Well, to start off with, THEY HAVEN'T RELEASED THIS YET. Next, Blender does not read PMC formats without a addon. If you are patient and wait until they release this and download theres, you will be able to download and install it and THEN you can open PMC files.

    4. The company behind, for example, Farming Simulator have recognized and accepted their modding community for several years already ;)

      SCS Software still has a looooong way to go in regards of dedication, acceptance and respect towards modding.

      Even the FS modding community itself are hell of a lot better than all the childish drama and bullshit that goes on in the useless ETS/18 WoS modding community.

      BUT, keep up the good work SCS... Maybe you'll get there... Someday :p

    5. you can't blame SCS for the 3rd parties. Me, I'm just happy people are doing stuff, seeing as my 3D ability is next to zero.

      2 things annoy me:

      1) people making a super-all-inclusive mod that does everything - I already have mods both mine and others and I don't need a pile of conflicts, thanks and

      2) people releasing mods that won't work and the archives are locked so I can't fix 'em.

    6. That is the nature of modding. There is no quality control and it is up to you to find suitable mods that suit you and work with your existing mods.

    3. Do you even begin to understand how much work goes into a new game version, let alone a new game? If everyone were happy to pay $300 per licence, and $100 per update, no doubt SCS could hire more people and make games faster. But they aren't (and, neither am I, not least because I don't have that kind of money) I suggest you try your hand at, for example, making a map, then you can get an idea of how much work "ALH2" or whatever it'll be entails, and it'll shut you up from whining that it's slightly more than a month since the last update which included a brand new truck, free.

I know that scs software is not like ea or rockstar for example and i know that when they wrote the game they were like approximately 10 people and now they have 30-35 people (or more) If we want to see more dlcs and genral more things in the game they need the support from us,they need money. I bought the game 35 Euros with shipping charges back in october 2012. They are making the game better because of us and the fact they are so many mods available makes a huge advantage

      j'adore il y a exactement 3 moi j'ai achté le jeux en normal et il y a aussi 1 moi que je vien d'achté go fast.

  20. It is refreshing to see a game company that actually cares about it's community. Most game companies try to make it difficult for modders by making too much hard coded material and game files for things such as paint templates incompatible with image manipulation programs like GIMP/Photoshop. I hope you apply the same compatibility to American Truck Simulator.

  23. Just a small question here - will it be as functional and as user friendly as the current unofficial blender2scs plugin? And also will it contain some kind of "easy new material creator"? Because for now itt's quite hard to figure out how to create a speciffic material.

This is just too good!! :D Maybe we will get more quality mods now, there are tons of good ones but also way too many bad and unfinnished. So this is amazing... wish I had the energy to dig in my self and learn to do mods... :D

Zdravím, chcel by som poprosiť tvorcov tejto skvelej hry aby pridali otváranie a zatváranie okien, celé by to spočívalo len v jednoduchej animácií ktorú by sprevádzala zmena zvuku z interiéru do exteriéru alebo niečo medzi tým. Takýto príjemný doplnok by dosť obohatil a skvalitnil hru. Vopred ďakujem za odpoveď.

  38. @ SCS: Will there be an update that includes another option of Freight?a little bit more realistic? Like having my own Trailer in the Game and only pick up the freight at the company´s?In real Life you only change your Trailer in Container Trucking but not in "normal Trucking".

  39. Конечно же хорошая новость, но мне параллельно ( то есть без разницы). я хочу играть, а не сидеть в 3D редакторе(у меня на это катастрофически нет времени). И очень значительная часть вашего игрового сообщества, думаю, также отреагировала на эту новость. Прежде всего хочется качественной и интенсивной работы от вас, а не "криворуких" моддеров, после которых приходится устранять бесчисленные "баги" в игре.

    1. Частично согласен с тобой, теперь каждый второй возомнит себя мододелом и появится море кривых, бездарных, безполезных модов. Но с другой стороны и качественных появится тоже много ) А вообще лучше чем СКС никто все-равно не сделает, лучше пусть СКС выпускает качественные ДЛС с грузовиками, картами, тюнингом и т.д .

  53. i'm not agree with the idea that anyone could easy create mods, there are tons of unfinished, incompatible, ugly or "unreal" mods..
    in my opinion, all the creations must be uploaded somewhere where SCS could control, inspect and after case preetify them.
    But better the comunity just create MODELS, not MODS, and give them to SCS for implementing in the game ! Than this game would develop & grow faster.

  54. This will really expand th options of creating your very own experience.
    Like for example creating your own garage or modify the original.

    Like for example:

    A bigger lot.
    Separate HQ, shich isn't connected to the garage.
    Bigger garage and/or different interior/exterior.

    The possibilities could be endless, especially if you would like to virtual recreate a former transport company with it's old buildings.

  64. I have really in joyed playing .,I build computers ,& have seen some real good mods . But I am not able to get them in to the game . I also saw trucks from Extreme Trucks 2 in as mods , I had a copy ,but I think it was stole ,. Would like to try using some those trucks in the game ,Squrll is using them already, sorry on spelling, I had a head injury along time ago .I can see where you changed some things , I was on of the first person to make over 700,000.00 euro ,&29 drivers , I for got how many garages , had to redo Steam & lost that part, I think was over level 50 , It is taking three longer to get there , I will get back up there ,Would love to try SCS Blender tool , Thank you again

  71. This is very good news! There is hope for quality and new mods! Hopefully finally zmod monopoly will be history. I care about one very important question whether we can this tool to edit and create animations for interior shoe? Without animation it will not be complete tool! We could do a lot of American tractors and tyunnig European.

    I have a standalone version of ETS2 v1.2.5.1 which I want to legalize and 'convert' to the Steam version (I just bought the Gold bundle on Steam but haven't installed it yet).
    Will Steam re-use my existing installation and update it to v1.7.1, or will it leave it as it is and install a new instance?
    Will Steam use my existing profile?

  75. I was expecting this tool for a long time...great news guys. Three proposals to implement in the future into the game:
    1. Give a XP bonus if the driver arrives faster than was planned.
    2. If you can count how many fines a player takes during a transport , give a bonus if the player finishes the transport without any penalties (fines, tickets for hitting other cars, traffic lights, overspeed etc)
    3. How about bringing to life an old truck , the old SKODA. I'm a old enough to remember when I was a kid the sound of that truck engine ! Think about it...

    1. In real life you are paid to deliver the goods before deadline, and docked money if you are late (as the game does).

      You do not receive a bonus for getting there any earlier.

      Also, you do not get a bonus for no fines/accidents, that is what you are EXPECTED to do. You receive penalties for committing these offenses, NOT bonuses for not doing them.

    2. Old trucks would still need a license, and companies are using the license to promote their new range. There is no value to a truck company to promote older trucks.

      This is a GAME and if you can pay a license which is not that much you can have any truck you want in it no matter if is old or new. If I know correctly Skoda it's a dead body invigorated by VW. I don't see why VW wouldn' t give a license for an old truck to appear in a game.

  82. не вижу особой радости. мододелы наиграются в blender а что дальше? прорблема игры не в модельках, а кто так не считает - малый ребенок, который не наигрался в детстве в конструктор. Отсутствие нормальной цели в игре, экономика, которая не вызывает интереса, однообразие от начала до... лучше бы оставили наемного водителя в игре, как в 18 wos, а бесконечная покупка гаражей и наем водил утомляет больше чем само вождение, да и смысла в этом нет, все равно своя компания в игре абсолютно ничего в итоге не дает, даже если в настройках установить минимальный заработок с километра, все равно это ни к чему интересному не приводит. Надеюсь, что к следующей части ETS и к выходу ATS концепция будет изменена.

    status update
    A short update on what is happening now at SCS Software ...

    We are now hard at work merging in two important code changes - improvements in physics, Especially in the area of the suspension, and major traffic AI rewrite. Both are big functional changes That need to be integrated and tested Extensively. Time needed for testing each such major feature change is always hard to estimate, but we Hope that it is a matter of weeks rather than months before it's all ready for release in ETS2 another update.
