Country Flag Paint Jobs

Today we are releasing a bunch of new paint job DLCs with United Kingdom flags.

It is partly an experiment into this type of content, to see if it catches on with players and should be pursued for more countries. Would you like to see something similar created for your country as well? It is also a result of discussions with our UK retail publishing partner; something to spice up the contents of a new boxed re-release of Euro Truck Simulator 2 coming to UK store shelves at the end of this week.

Nurturing the retail market is still strategic for us, even in the world of digital distribution becoming more and more dominant. The irony is that this new UK box will actually contain Steam-only activation codes - this is where the industry is going, with the UK market at the forefront of the trend.

Our release slate recently has been focused quite a lot on the cosmetics side, but don't despair! We have a ton of deeper, more interesting features and content in development for Euro Truck Simulator 2, we just need time to finish and polish it for new game updates and expansions.

  1. I like them! I also love the idea! Would it be possible that these appear as a separate download? Even DLC. After all most of the people reading this blog already own the game. I some how doubt people will buy it again, just for these paint jobs. Since you are concentrating on working on cosmetic updates lately. How about new upgrade items? Such as new lights, wheels, bullbars, roof bars, sunvisors. Perhaps new things like stack exhausts, and interior add ons. This too could be done as DLC.

    1. I won't lower myself to your level, but I have to agree with OP, these skins don't even look very good.
I wouldn't even mind DLC accesoiries like bullbars and lights, but this looks like anyone with Microsoft Paint could do.

I get that SCS wants some extra revenue with selling these skin DLC things, but really, this isn't even worth it.

    7. Yugoslavia wasn't nazi or fascist, it fighted against it! Yugoslavia was socialistic, and 6 nations were living together in brotherhood and unity

      Delete
    8. Yea but Yugoslavia was Communist after WW2 and in the Mid-90s the country faced a civil war which resulted in Yugoslavia splitting up back to the 6 nations before King Alexander united them

      Delete
    9. Yes it was communist, but in a very different way than Stalin's Soviet Union. The one who united all Yugoslav nations was Tito, and after his death nationalists took power of Yugoslavia. Milošević wanted to create Great Serbia, which resulted in a war. But in Tito's time, Yugoslavia was a very nice country.

I don't mind Steam users getting small DLC's like this, but my support for you SCS is big. I have purchased all the paint job DLC's on Steam only to support you.

If ETS2, ATS etc will be Steam only games I won't be happy. Okay I'll admit it, I will play ETS2 on Steam but I won't like it and I won't buy anymore DLC's for the game. And if ATS is a Steam only game too, I won't buy it. I just can't use Steam.

I will buy those paint job DLC's just to support you SCS. And I'm not even going to bother to explain why I don't like or want to use Steam, only Non-Steam users will understand it.

    Thanks for your time.

  40. Dear SCS,

"We are seriously considering shifting all updates and expansions to Steam infrastructure", "this is where the industry is going", "all you need to do is to [...] become a registered member of World of Trucks" and so on and so forth... It seems that you've made your decision and that's totally fine by me. It's a simple thing: If you want to force unnecessary online services upon the players of your future games, then my conscience leaves me with no other option but not to buy any of them. I've written more than enough comments concerning that issue now, and I'm getting tired of being accused of having cracked ETS2 by people who don't even know the distinction between pirating and cracking games, while having the impression that you just don't care about what I'm saying. So, good night unto you all.

  45. What I was afraid of is happened. SCS, you became too greedy. I really like the game and want to support it, but I don't think the way you choose will be good for us, your fans, and for you.

When the first paintjob DLC — Halloween — came out it was something new and fresh, and the skins was so cool in comparison with ingame skins so I bought it as soon as I can. The second one — Christmas — wasn't as cool as first, but I still bought it. When the third one — Forces of Nature — came out I was in doubts, but well, that's a good paintings, and support for company, I bought it too. The fourth one — Metallic — is not a cool pictures, just patterns. It's nothing without a new color mechanics. If it wasn't free, I don't think I will got it.

Now it's just a couple of flags, that can be easily done in MS Paint, is selling for a dollar. And you tell us that you going to make more flag DLCs. What about seat adjustment? How long existing in game MB Actros will be Majestic Across? What matters more — comfortable game with branded trucks or «patriotism» in buying a small flag to put on the door?

Maybe I will buy a UK flag DLC, just because of nice London sight, but from now I'm going to think a lot before any purchase of your future DLCs. Because you are spraying your attention on a really unnecessary things instead of focusing on a really important things like supporting and developing ETS2 or at least making ATS.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Sadly, you are right. There are fans happy and loyal to developers in any way, that doesn't complain for such an obvious fact and that is lack of development. ATS is being "developed", I would rather say assembled, just to get satisfied other customers, but there is no such things as new driving experience. Why is the game called simulator? Because of the paint jobs? Why do we have the option of driving tractors of all the different brands and with several when it doesn't take into account their different reliability,... Why can't we own a a trailer and the game is restricted to just driving around in borrowed ones... Why is there just the one three axle trailer and no other, while it is a "truck" simulator. Why is the game so arcadish?

Too much work for a small group of people? I don't think so. My proof is the ATS.

Well I shouldn't be upset, it's just a game and it's not worth it.

  46. I personally still hope for the Gigaliners.
They have been one of the biggest reasons I was so excited and convinced
    to buy ETS2.

It would be a great feature, and would mean alot of fun.
I am - it may sound a bit weird and dumb - much unchallenged with the wide roads and ''small'' normal trailers. ;)

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Gigaliners will never happen, they would have to rewrite physics (improve) and they wont do that, they'll just keep dumbing the physics down (recent patch that changed physics) so they expand their player base and thus make more money.

      Delete
    2. They have been in the game before the release.
      So the basics are there.

Also, how can you say it will never happen?
You aren't a part of SCS Studios, are you?.

      Delete
  47. I will buy all DLC, but please soon release a paintjob with the flag of The Netherlands on an orange paint undercoat.

Also some anime/manga skins would be nice (like a Hatsune Miku one for example), but that would require licensing. So I don't know if that's possible as an official skin.

  48. dear SCS

where is the future of your retail games going not to mention I hate playing this game on steam cause every time I need to play this game I have to make sure steam is running in the background
secondly when are the new trucks goner knock the doors of ets2 and please add feel more trailers plus a double trailer would be nice if you can't add a double trailer in the game what about a Gigaliner since these types of trucks are common in Europe and again thank you for the updates to this game but its just that I'm starting to worry about the future of retail versions cause I prefer retail over steam.

    1. Dude if you don't like playing on steam then just buy ets2....you don't need steam...

      Delete
    2. I fully agree with the initial post. There are lots of issues with using steam. The trojan horse problem is only one of them, not to mention that steam eats 10% performance in the background. Another is feeding another global US monopoly. With respect to whats going on with currently with the tries to create a 2 class internet and political circumstances that are warming up the cold war SCS completely neglects their eastern community which in the first place made them big. Not good!

      Delete
    3. SCS has always been a team who listen the community. I believe they thought this through and made their decision. The reason why SCS games get pirated more, than other similar size and quality games is that the userbase behind these kind of games is more likely to be from poor society without powerful enough hardware to run AAA games. So the larger piracy is not there because of the lack of DRM, it's more about userbase.

Steam has been very good in managing users privacy. Companies like Valve can only become worse. I hate it when big companies use their size to crush, buy or kill potential competitors.

I recently reinstalled Windows 7. I make sure to tweak it for maximum performance. It takes couple hours to kill unnecessary programs, choosing the right Windows service to keep on, un-installing Windows parts and so on.

When internet speeds get priorized, Valve and Steam will say they are against that, but later pay for fastlane. They say to defend net neutrality just to make public believe they oppose internet fastlanes.

it are mods, but there you go, at Promods you dont have to start a new profile, but at TSM you have to. Multiplayer mod doesnt work with map mods, only with the going east DLC. But the multiplayer mod is still Alpha so there are some lags and things. I also reccomand you to use a new profile or at least back-up your profile when you dicide to play multiplayer. The only thing is that you'll need steam for the multiplayer.

  61. This comment turned out to be pretty long, so if you don't waste your time, read only the last lines.

If ATS and Euro Coach Simulator are Steam-only I will pirate them. I will buy them when non-DRM version comes out. It might take many years but I'm not going to buy something that I can't save for my grandchildren and show what it was like in ol' days. Those games have no multiplayer, so pirating it does not take anything from me other than updates taking longer to be cracked. I will never pirate if I like the game. So I will buy those games as soon as non-DRM version comes out.

I would be happy to download my updates through official SCS torrents. Don't know how the Steam update files and non-Steam update files differ, but I think it's not so big work to release two different update files.

The only things that can make me to buy those games on Steam are good multiplayer or a promise to get free non-DRM copy when the game has been out for about 5-10 years.

  68. Dear SCS,

Consider me as your loyal fan, I'm always enjoying playing your truck games, I own 18WOS, STDS and ETS2, they are all great games.

I do have some suggestions for the future of ETS2, you can also consider this as some critics.

Despite several Paintjobs DLCs and a great map expansion, this game has many small things to improve from the beginning, i do mean they are small, small enough to be done by modders, but i will give you a list.

    - Please make standard front wheels for every truck in the game, ALL of your wheels in game do not match ALL trucks, you have made two great models(FH4, Stralis Hi-Way), but every time i use ingame wheels these trucks look terrible, same for the rest. How hard can it be to make some wheels? Is it harder than a brand new truck model?
    - Please fix VOLVO FH3's chassis, the gap between the rear wheel and the fender is too much, it's ugly.
    - Please fix DAF XF's chassis, the 6x chassis maybe long but at least the attach point should move forward, for exemple if you use the 6X4 chassis, there is a HUGE gap between the cabin and the trailer, it's ugly and unrealistic.
    - IVECO Stralis, i don't know which model you have based on, but it's just wrong, no real Stralis looks like that.
    - MAN TGX, what if i want side skirts on my truck but i don't drive a V8 model?
    - MERCEDES ACTROS, since you have the official licence, can you give us a real logo, some real statistics of the gearboxes, making a Mercedes logo is harder than making the whole Actros MPIV?
    - VOLVO FH4, nice model, but you didn't make the side windows on V8 models, it's ok because i always drive FH13 540, but this is a really annoying feature for me.

Apart from small things on truck models, the big problem is the physics, as many of your fans have pointed out.

These are small things, and i have got them all covered by using several mods, but the thing is mods affect gameplay no matter how good they are, maybe i can run this game so much smoother (i have a good computer) if you improve those small things, and this game is called "SIMULATOR", realistic models and realistic physics matter more than anything else.

Anyway i will continue to support you because your games are still better than many others, looking forward to your new games and new features. Hope you can find some time to fix those small things.

  73. This situation is becoming ridiculous; Steam vs Non-Steam.

Will you grow up? You afraid that if you use Steam then the Big Brother will watch you. Well, ok, let's all give 100 Euros to SCS so they will establish their own server so you wont afraid about Steam etc.

You worry and afraid about Steam, but on the same time you have no problem to use Google, you afraid that by using Steam then the Big Brother is watching you but you don't know that when you use Google your IP is tracked and you receive ads according to your location.

You worry too much, you afraid that they watching you like you are the most precious person in the earth and the bad guys are after you !!

Well, throw your pc into the trash, sell everything and go live to a desert. Your reactions about Steam and Non Steam is very childish. I told SCS that they should sell their games to 18+ only and not to a bunch off kids who are afraid to activate their game on Steam but on the same time they don't have hesitation to use Google and all the other IP track sites.

SCS made it clear to everyone. From now on, the games will be on Steam, either you accept it or not. The fact that you payed 40 Euros to get ETS2 doesn't give you the right to act like you bought the 51% of shares of the BMW company.

Grow up and let SCS to focus on their job. Stop being so annoying.

      - We live in the steam age of gaming: ok;
      - There is the big base fan-boys supporters of steam: ok;

      - There is also a substantial amount of people that DONT want steam, as these boards reveal;
      - People who dont support steam, prob will not buy SCS products in the future;

Is it so difficult to still marketing products in steam AND manage to make them also available through other sources? Think not!

It's the steam fan boys who are making this battle: "let s go all steam, how nice..."

I work for a (BIG) gaming company :p, they dont go steam...

    6. Not sure how serious the poster is about this, but NSA looking my gaming is maybe the least of my worries about Steam. I'm more worried about my rights to the game, DRM that restricts me to collect games for future generation, Valve bloating Steam with advertising and making it based on monthly subscriptions and the service I don't want to waste my computer performance for. No matter how less the service or process uses my ram or cpu, I wil kill it completely, if I don't really have to use it. It's stupid to run a drm-service in background.

I think the REAL reason why SCS decided to become Steam-only developer, is that they believe that they can reduce piracy. Guess what, I think the opposite will happen. In future SCS will notice that piracy level is about the same, or even bigger.

  76. With all due respect, and sorry for the Off-Topic, I appreciate the release of new paintjob DLCs, which I use to buy (except the flags, I have no interest for now), but I would like to say something:

I think you should give some love to the interior customization option. We have a button there since the release of ETS2, which only points to the same dots that can be customized from the outside: mirrors, and sunshield. The only extra-dots I've ever seen were from mods.

You could get really lots of themed cheap mini-DLC, which would become one of those bundle packs on christmas on Steam...

    Examples of options?
    - Curtains (side and front)
    - Decorations to hang on windshield (dices, flags...)
    - Addons: laptops, phones, wooden tables, coffe machine, GPS for trucks missing it...

I understand you're working on several fronts but... this section has been completely abandoned from the release, and as you saw on a recent poll, the interior view is the most used one.

I'm pretty sure that, same we like to buy (while contributing) paintjobs DLCs, which we only see when switching to an exterior view, people would also buy interior configuration packages... For instance, a "Halloween Ride", which could include some nice black curtains with orange decorations for all trucks, a dark wooden table, and some special coffee machine with a pumpkin, just to say something... and even a pumpking to be placed on the dashboard on the passenger side.

Some ideas of how could it work:
    - Click on a white dot on the dashboard.
    - Select item from the usual list... sunglases, cellphone, cigars, notepad...
    - In big dashboards a laptop would fit.. on others it would require a table (same error you get when you need the "long mirror" instead of "stock").

If anyone thinks I'm asking too much... well, stop to think all you can do on the exterior, and what you can do on the interior... bullbars, wheels, lights here and there, not to mention all the skins.

Interior should have similar customization level (I guess that's why the button was placed there on the Service menu!) :D

    Thanks for your time,
    Regards.

  77. As someone who until a few months ago was playing a... not strictly legitimate copy of ETS2... I am getting very annoyed now. I bought the game along with Going East at retail *because* I loathe Steam and wanted to support SCS for having made it. These plans are *clearly* not going down well with the people commenting, and SCS is now blindly charging on ahead ignoring the fact that people can and do have numerous legitimate and valid reasons for not wanting Steam used, and feeling treated like second class citizens. SCS seemed to be a company that supported doing what the fans wanted it to do. It was an incentive to return that support. All we seem to get now is `we're doing this this way. why? BECAUSE.`
The idea that the smaller DLC like the free paint jobs cannot just be bundled up and thrown in a torrent to give to those who want it enough - a process that would take all of perhaps thirty seconds, and frankly if SCS sent me the file's I'd happily start it it for them - is absurd in this day and age. You package the game patches as one!
SCS - if you're not going to cater to the fans who are passionate enough to come here and let you know how these things are beginning to seem, don't be surprised if your future games see a much smaller market. Gamers scorned are as mistrusting as can be.

  79. I stopped reading comments on this blog a long time ago and now I know why.

Complaints about Steam are making me sick. And here I bought ETS2 in a retail store the first day it for a full price. Only to come home and wait for a couple of months for the game to be greenlit so I can activate it on my Steam account and then start buying all the DLCs. People who are now saying how SCS is "abandoning" them as their loyal customers and fans were not that to begin with. Grow up, start a studio and make games and you will see how "easy" it is and why most companies today don't interact with their fans them same way SCS does.

I'm sure there are a lot of normal people who are here to support SCS and have fun with their games. The problem is that we mostly hear from the vocal minority, and those are all spoiled little brats who don't know how to compose a simple sentence.

To SCS: Thank you for making ETS2. Words alone can't describe how much peace and tranquility I found while playing it. Good luck with future updates to ETS2, ATS and any other new project you decided to tackle. Rest assure that your true fans will be always here to enjoy your games and support you in any way possible.

  83. Ok, I will say it for LAST time, and then each one of you decide what you will do.

SCS made a WONDERFUL game, and they CONTINUE to support it and the will continue. You can buy the game from its website and then download it on your computer. Plug in your steering wheels, gamepads etc and start DRIVING. SCS will be ALWAYS here to support you and give you improvements.
Those imporovements will NOT be on their website (the website you bought the game) but on Steam. So what? Why all those arguments about Steam?

You BOUGHT the game, you OWN the game. And IF you want to get SCS improvements, then the ONLY way is via Steam. SCS will release the improvements on Steam, if you don't like this, then uninstall ETS2 and stop moaning all the time.

I am NOT a Steam supporter and I am NOT a Non Steam supporter. I am SCS and ETS2 supporter and the ONLY way to play ETS2 on my Linux laptop is via Steam.

When I bought the game from SCS website, I saved it on an external hard drive for backup purposes. I activated it on Steam and everything is ok.

I CANNOT understand why every time SCS release something, you start a war Steam or Non Steam. I CANNOT understand what is your problem. As long you bought ETS2 from their website (Eurotrucksimulator2.com), you are the owner of the game. WHY you act like spoiled children all the time? Why you mumbling all the time? Why you are annoying all the time?

I cannot understand the way you thinking. Instead of thank SCS for this perfect game, you start a fight for Steam and not Steam, are you serious? GROW UP.

You shouldn't mind in which platoform/cloud/server/etc/etc you can play the game, as long you CAN play it.

Steam/Non Steam, Nestle/NonNestle, Toyota/NonToyota , every time the same story. Is getting ridiculous.

Grow up asap, you are just a bunch of spoiled kids.

There are a lot of people that for various reasons can't use Steam, or don't want to use Steam. For us - the non-steam-supporters - the "WHEN and IF" is now. That's why we're mad. Now you know."

First of all, I NEVER said that I like Steam. I am aware that many people doesn't like to use Steam either. SCS made it clear, in a timeframe of 6-12 months they will move their games on Steam because they want to focus on the games than spend their time and resources in order to distribute the game on various ways.

That is how SCS decided to do, so is ok with me. I am NOT the owner of SCS company, so I either accept their decision to transfer their games on Steam, or I don't accept it and I stop using SCS games and ETS2.

There is NO other way. We CANNOT force SCS to manage their work according on our wishes. We are not the owners of the company, we are just clients, and as clients we either accept the company's policy or we stop supporting them.

Is just as simple like that. Is TAKE IT or LEAVE IT.

When you will buy the SCS company you can decide on which platforms and how the games will be distributed but since you are a client, then you either quit and leave or adopting the new policy.

Be my guest and go create your own game company and use any distributor method you want, otherwise take what SCS decided or leave it.

There is NO wrong and correct, there is NO black and white. That is how business work; they decide their policy on something and is up to the client to either continue support that company or leave.

So, the choice is yours, SCS decided and is up to the clients to either follow SCS or leave away.

But to demand from SCS to adopt your ideas and your ways of thinking, that is NOT how business work, and if you don't know that you will learn it when you will grow up.

      The decision is yours.

      Delete
    5. Of course SCS will adopt to our ideas and ways of thinking, how else will they survive as a company? I can assure you that we won't sit and wait for 6-12 months without voicing our opinions. Believe me, SCS will survive as a company, their future is bright.
You have to understand that other thing is a company to asking for suggestions and ideas and another thing is the client to demand and blackmail a company to adopt his wishes and demands.

Every company has its own policy and strategy and that is happening in ALL companies around the planet. There are times that a company will ask suggestions and ideas from their clients but there is NO company on this planet which will accept all the demands, there is NO company on this planet which will accept to be blackmailed from its clients : " You either accept my demands or I will leave and you cannot survive ".

This is NOT how business working and as I said before, you will find this out when you will grow up and enter the global world of the economy.

Every company on this planet is ALWAYS asking for suggestions and ideas from its clients in order to provide better service and better products but on the same time they will NEVER accept blackmail and change their strategy just because they will loose some "loyal" customers. If a company is good and with nice products and support, then it can gain more clients, more than the "loyal" clients who will might loose.

This is how things works, I understand you cannot stand this, I understand you want SCS and every other company to accept your demands right away otherwise you will drop them. Well, believe me, every company will tell you the same thing : " see ya".

I will say it again, every company on this planet is always asking suggestions and ideas from their clients. Then, they will collect all those ideas and suggestions and they will might choose few of them, or they will might not choose anything. The last thing a company wants, is to change its strategy and policy.

I am not going to continue on this, I will just repeat; either you accept SCS decisions, or you can stop supporting them. SCS will not go bankrupt because few people will leave, SCS has a bright future.

Grow up and let SCS do their job and stop mumbling all the time, otherwise go and create your own game company and do whatever you want. But as long you are SCS clients, then take it or leave it.

End of story, end of lecture.

    8. I don't consider it blackmailing to tell a company of my likes and dislikes regarding their products and services. And trust me: SCS won't say "see ya" to anyone. You have to understand that SCS isn't selling groceries here, but a TRUCK SIMULATOR. It's a very small market, in fact SCS doesn't have any real competition at all right now. And that's always a problem because the little fish may feel bigger than it really is and make stupid decisions.
