Truck customization in ETS 2
We have made great progress on implementing the truck customization feature in Euro Truck Simulator 2 during the last week. Over the past half a year, we have built tons and tons of 3D models of upgrade parts to choose from, but the code wasn't yet in place to easily try them and swap them in the game. Finally when we want to make a screenshot with some tricked-up truck, we won't have to painstakingly hand-edit things, instead we will swiftly tune the truck to our liking. For now just a couple of teaser images...

Maybe scs can implement weather effects? Like snow at the end of the year, summer, rain fog etc?

ReplyDeleteYou could change the upper scania mirror to give a real panoramic view ! When I try to reverse to passanger side i cant, unless i dont use outer camera :(. After the trailer turn 30-40 degree i cant see anything.
I hope You will change this in ETS2 and you could give us a adjustable mirror :)

Awesome.. make sure that the beacons are fully functional. We need them when driving with an oversize trailer and dangerous liquids.

if you are asking what 3D program they are using...its Probably Maya 3D (made by autodesk who also makes 3DSmax and Autocad)

For costumization put optional spoilers : add or remove them (from cab and tanks).
For landscape : EUROPEAN TRAINS, Buses, Coaches, Small trucks, Microbuses, Police Ambulance and Fire Cars, Trams, Metros and so on
Put more destinations and leaving points : Stations : buses, trains; Ports, Construction sides, Renches and so on...
Put Millau viaduct from France and Mont Blanc tunnel from France to Italy (or from Italy to France)

I think it's important that the AI will have customized trucks aswell.
ReplyDeleteOff cause they are gonna make the becons work. They have alreddy the tecnologi and the (1 and 0's they need for this) Yust see Extreme Trucker 1 and 2. If they would not work, they would not be in the game. As simple as that. Be pasient about your questions. SCS only tell us what they want to. But it is grate for their brane storming.

ReplyDelete-Yeah. You could give us more type of lights with separated buttons. (Like: Fog light, low beam, headlight, Side lights, working lights, and so on :) )
-I hope the becon will affect the traffic behavior
( for examlple: If you are with bigger cargo they let you take the corner, so they stop far from your truck.
-Maybe more darker nights? So we should really need all of those lights. Beacuse in the previous games we only used lights because we wanted more simulation. We could see in the night without headlights :D

ReplyDeleteWhat a great-looking truck. I love the scenery in the background too. Also, I would like adjustable mirrors too. And when you adjust them, and save a game, that saved game keeps your adjusted point so that you won't have to readjust every time you play the game. Please work on weather effects, if you can, I'm anxious to see some more realistic ones.

@Micheal K American trucks are AWESOME. Now, I agree that ETS2 SHOULDN'T have them (It is a EUROPEAN truck game, after all), I don't think they suck. Most, like Peterbuilt and Kenworth are very well known, great truck makers in America.

ReplyDeleteI don't understand why people says the graphics are horrible. They are very high-definition to me...Well, I don't fuss about the graphics, I fuss about simulation related instead of beauty of graphics. OMSI Bus Simulator, for example.
ReplyDeleteI also figured out that when you change the graphics setting (for me), the game lags. So I choose "High" button instead of adjusting anything. This solves my problem.
Oh also, I recommend anyone to buy T&T game. It is pretty challenging, I mean, very challenging.

Maybe you should remove logos altogether. They're not necessary, as long as they're not the original brand logos. Leave it to the private modders to release the original versions. :)
Cabin curtains would be a nice touch and the ability to move freely through the cabin, when stationary. Also the ability to buy coffee and energizers, which will affect the fatigue indicator. Having a steamy cup of coffee in the holder would be fun.
Another feature, I don't know if possible, would be some kind of zooming on the left mirror. It would simulate focusing on the mirror, enhancing the resolution of the image in that mirror, to better see what's happening. So, this would only happen when looking straight at that mirror, mimicking real eye behavior.
The skinning templates would be awesome to have released. Contest could take place with international recognition :D

please, make flash lights on the trucks, for heavy load transport, and working beacons, that would be awsome. And in color painted bullbars, not just chrome. And Danish rear bumpers would be fantastic.

Yeah second that idea, would love to see that in ETS2.
Much to ask the developers about the time of delivery of goods - would be nice to increase the time of delivery or even removed, because the game is intended to be an arcade and racing trucks, and not on the simulator to deliver goods. However, the limited time for delivery of goods introduces an element of complexity to the game and probably therefore has a place to be. But too little amount of time prevents a) comply with rules of the road 2) enjoy driving (and it is important to play with control) 3) creates a vulnerability in the management of the game economy. Please think about it.

ReplyDeleteIn the T&T-demo thread, lots of people complained that they needed to decrease their graphic-settings due to that their cpu/gpu couldn't handle it. How can the game-graphic then be bad?
(I might have gone overboard with the pro choice in T&T? ;) Like for instance, it's frustrating when you have drove around a building backwards with your trailer like 10 times, just to get that the game's not accepting that your truck is in the right position, sooner or later you're bound to hit something, and then it's back to frustration & start-over again and again and again... But in the end you get that green light and everything feels just right, for now... What might lie ahead?

ReplyDeleteAs mentioned in an earlier post I run at maximum settings and get decent frame rate, not boasting the latest PC either (Dual Core @ 3.00 and HD4800, 25-30 fps), so no idea why some have issues.

I know, Pro is tough! In real life drivers can and will get out to take a look, they will scoot over to the passenger side to take a gander and they can move more freely in the cab. While I have improved it is still at time really tough when the trailer turns beyond the scope of the right hand mirror (in a left drive truck). At the very least, the ability (camera) to scoot over and peek out the passenger window would be a huge help, I think, hope to see that "down the road". That, and adjustable mirrors. (c:

Maybe add some unused functionalities ingame so the modders will do the time-consuming 3 modelling for you later on.

ReplyDeleteThe Scania's cab is higher (taller) than a normal trailer.
A truck can't oversteer, just understeer ! I don't wan't to drive on a motorway and make drift's with my truck : it's horrible

1. a special motorway in poland (I dont dare to write the number of this route)
2. original license plates for the trucks
3. border-crossings with authentic european road-signs like "Bundesrepublik Deutschland"

ReplyDelete@Dexter, the Scania R-serie comes in different heights. The tallest Scania Topline is about 3 meters tall. I do not know how tall a trailer is. But I've seen many smaller than 3 m.

ReplyDeleteSmall but fun game, Pro-level completed and i must say that my maneuver-skills with the truck/trailer became vastly improved thanks to this game. Any gold, expect on the first 8 levels was just to far out of reach, maybe some day? But the same amount of silver and bronze feels OK 25/25. Now I'm waiting even more for ETS2!

I have a great (?) idea!
ReplyDeleteMake a screen saver that uses the game engine and the records of tasks that the player has accomplished. Just like the replay feature of the game, but as a screensaver to be installed separately!
Or, maybe, a small set of mini-maps where a truck (random or chosen) would be followed by a camera (similar to in-game TV camera), with traffic, pedestrians and, of course, that cheeky rabbit!!
Wow, Eric, congrats! I'm still able to get gold medal only in tutorial missions and rarely, very rarely get silver in basic missions. So nothing to show off... yet. :-D

ReplyDeleteBut yes, T&T and ETS2 are completely different games. You can also find T&T under title "Euro Truck Spezial: LKW-Rangier-Simulator", which could be confusing, understand that.
Have you guys thought about BEING ABLE TO CONTROL THE DRIVER OUTSIDE THE TRUCK? For example, when stopping at a gas station or rest place, to be able to get out of the truck, go inside the shop, buy food and things for yourself, go have a shower, wash your truck, chat with other drivers which are stationed there ... WHAT DO YOU THINK? ISN'T THIS A GREAT IDEA?
ReplyDeleteNelutu: Absolutely NO for shower. I played The Sims and I know what happens to playable character when he/she's in shower. Some scary eczema made of blurred pixels. Nothing for my trucker, thanks.
ReplyDeleteI didn't mean actually seeing an animation of him taking a shower, but going inside the shower and selecting somewhere to have a shower and then witnessing how time passes until the shower is ready would be cool.

ReplyDeleteShort version: this is a "truck simulator", not a "truck driver simulator". There are quite a few games that allow you to control a human character, but this is not one of those.
I would like to see human characters populating these truck stops and delivery points, more than being able to "go for a walk".
I would like, also, to have the possibility to open the doors of the truck, when stopped, as many truck drivers do, while taking there 45 min mandatory stop, along the route. Seeing trucks with drivers, resting at these stops would be more realistic.
Buying things like coffee or energizers would be something nice, affecting the fatigue indicator, and the account balance, of course. But it could be something like a "drive-in", so you can buy without leaving the cab.

ReplyDelete@ohaha: Well, the driver should be a very important part of a truck simulator in my opinion. After all, you can have no truck simulation without a driver. I'm not implying to be able to move the driver too much, just enter the shop and browse it, buy a few stuff, also be able around to move around the rest places ... Just for the atmosphere.
ReplyDeleteI'd also like to have the 45 minutes mandatory stop every 4 hours in ETS2. In the previous games, you could drive the truck for 10 hours continuously before being asked to take a rest, and that is very unrealistic. Think about it, as it is not hard to implement. Just ask for a stop to rest every 4 hours.
By the way, can you give me an example of game in which you are allowed to control the driver?
in euro 2 can you hsave left and right hand drives like if you buy a truck in the uk its right hand drive then in euro there left can we have our compant logo on the trucks

ReplyDeleteNelutu, you mean pure trucking game, not GTA (for example), right? Of course there is no game like this, everyone knows it.
ReplyDeleteYou know - I'm not saying these ideas are bad, but I really don't need them to enjoy the game. And what's more, I want to play ETS2 this year... :-D On the other hand, some of your ideas are quite simple to made. For example seeing truck with opened doors on truckstop would be nice.

ReplyDeleteWell, they used it in ETS. Mine is set to 16x.
Sure there's still some rough edges in that game, but it helps a lot to smooth out the worst. But the biggest visual difference in ETS was with the "Anisotropic filtering" setting. If your machine is powerful enough for a high setting, the game and specially the surroundings, comes to live in a completely different way than with a lower setting.
(I've not checked the lower settings in T&T to make a comparing for those adjustments, as in ETS)
But i guess the same also goes for that game?
Though they only have on or off choice with AA.
But they also has Advanced option and still the Anisotropic filtering to choose from, among other choices.
I think in the end, that the players machine is the main reason if the game looks and works good or not.

I'm sure, whatever you might mean, it cannot be that bad to call it "horrible". If it is in anyway scary and your age prevents you from having access to strong scenes, you can always stop playing the game. I hope there are not many people, out there, traumatized by this "horrific" game. :))
