Yes, we need more time

Euto Truck Simulator 2 will not be ready for release on the market in August. This was an honest estimate made early this year which we have provided to our publishing partners, and which I have announced to here on this blog. However, we realized that we need more time to complete the game in the quality that we want to achieve. Please accept our apologies for keeping your hopes high and then disappointing you.

We are committed to shipping a finished and polished game above anything else, and while the decision to postpone ETS2 release wasn't easy, it is the right thing to do. There may be some negative reactions now to this delay, but think about what would happen if we shipped the game with major bugs - you would all go berserk bashing it and our reputation and business could be damaged beyond repair. It is really better to give you a game that's fun to play with no big issues. We need the game to succeed if SCS Software is to stay in business and keep on developing simulation games. Each step along the way matters.

At the moment, we think it will take an extra month of testing and tuning to get the game completed, possibly pushing the release date into September. But this is still our best guess, not a guarantee - the game is only done when it's done. We are only human, we do what we can to build the game according to the vision that we started with, and it's no small task for us for sure.

Thank you for your patience and continued loyalty - we are doing this for you.

Yours sincerely,

Pavel Sebor
CEO, SCS Software

  6. Bad news :( :(
But I'd rather play a finished, well-working, non-buggy game, than a rushed game which you can't even play without running into bugs and crashes every 15 minutes.
I hope everyone else also understands that this is not very bad news, and that you are doing this for us.
And for the once without patience, too bad, as you grow older you will learn to wait for certain things, cause that's how life is.
You simply can't have it when YOU want it, you'll get it when it's done!

P.S. Very nice pictures SCS, really like the Actros Megaspace!

I'll wait paitiently for game release.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Please don't...

With a keyboard it's very hard to keep a certain angle while maneuvering...In STDS I like the ability to come to a stop and set my steering angle and THEN accelerate while being able to keep that angle with minimal amounts of hits on the keys...if you do what HE/SHE says it'll be impossible to do fine maneuvering...

Please, think a little about what it is you're asking for, you'll be steering right into walls unless you keep the key pressed for an X amount of seconds before accelerating and then you'll have to keep forcing on that key durring the whole turn and still...you'll probably end up either veering off totaly or hitting the wall :/

      Delete
    2. if you cannot afford a wheel at the moment like me drive with a mouse!! its easy!! =)

      Delete
    3. Did that with GTS...had to to avoid that glitch where your imput gets multiplied every few sec

But I much prefer keeping the mouse only to look around with, that way I can check the right side mirror. (look right key kinda works too, but it's a bit disorienting imo)

      Delete
    4. I simply just cannot understand why people steer with the keys! :P

Steering with mouse is so much funnier and easier. By the way you can look around with mouse steering too. Just hold Alt.

      Delete
    5. Try that while turning :P

PS: Try with the keys in STDS, it's so smooth now, only a few minor hits while at higher speeds, but maybe they'll fix it for ETS2.

    6. I agree with Ziland, the keyboard steering in STDS is fantastic!

  34. I appreciate the fact that SCS could release such a from the heart honest message on their Blog to their loyal fans. I am uplifted by the fact that SCS continuesly accept feedback from the fans and implement the ideas.

As mentioned many times already the quality is No 1, also I would encourage flamers to think of another game development company out there that has their CEO post a open-hearted and clearly sympathetic message for everybody to see.

Keep up the good work, as mentioned previously if you could keep Scania Truck Driver updated this would keep us tied over I think.

    ReplyDelete
  35. I personally don't mind waiting for another six months if that means the game experience will be on par with the visual quality we've seen so far.

If recent game releases has taught me anything, is that I rarely go back to play a game once they've "fixed" it...take skyrim for example, I played it for about 350 hours while it was mostly unbalanced and buggy, and never returned to it after they fixed it, as that would be like rereading a book after they fixed the typos, its not like the book changed...but I'm still left with a meh feeling from that game, even if it was good enought to spend 350 hours on it.

    ReplyDelete
  36. It certainly must have been a hard decision (especially as it means even more budget than you probably expected in your bleak estimates), but I am sure it will be worth to wait some extra months. The continuing support just makes STDS even better, and I am pretty sure that the fixes you make for those game will also find their way into STDS during the extra time... Not to mention the nice effects of the extended closed beta period.

Thank you for taking this financial risk for us - I hope the sales will reflect how wise this decision was, if the quality of the game will be sufficing - but after STDS, I have no doubts it will be.

    Keep up the great work!

    2. Yes exactly :)

The possibility to turn that on/off would be wonderful. Some (or more like most) of the people want the simulator to be as close to a real truckers life as possible. But there's still some kids out there who are less patient, they don't want to stand in line for fuel for like 2 minutes.

Atm it feels like being punished for getting A class trucks, takes longer to get up in speed than B class because of the increased number of gears.

All trucks should be able to drive at 90+, its just a matter of how fast you get there IMHO.

1st blog you have to understand that if you add as much as one day, like a year, is for the best game thus improving increasingly, and leaving the best for us, future players ETS 2.

2nd I have not bought a computer good for the game flow well...

  59. Seeing how STDS is so much improved on the older games, I approve of not rushing the job on ETS2. There are still a few minor problems in STDS which can usefully be worked on, but it looks promising for ETS2.

Can I say, yet again, please please please please please please fix the headlights!!!! Your headlights on high beam look like low (dipped) beam, seriously, this has been wrong with all of your games, on the older ones I could mod the lights myself but with STDS if I mod it, online play won't work. This may or may not be an issue with ETS2, of course...

  60. I really don't like that you have to be level 20 to buy Actros... In real life you can buy anything anytime, isn't that right? You just need money to buy, not "stupid" points and levels... I think anyone who really cares are willing to wait and also give little feedback like this to help improve the finished product.

In general I doubt any more big ideas will be put in, it takes time to simply bugtest such a large game, but this should be fairly easy to implement, I believe.

    4. As you can see we are giving them a feedback for a long time, they obey some of our complains/wishes, some not. But that's still better than other developers. And I agree with you, there won't be any changes. I don't know if it helps to make it come out faster, but I'm sure it would be helpful for SCS if you'd translated literally a few words for the upcoming patch and voted the best translations of already existing ones, so you'd have new challenges in your language. 73. Like some people here, i'm dissapointed yet happy...better to release a finished game than a rushed one.
But i'm a bit dissapointed by what i saw on screenshots (like some people here again)...The level lock seem to be a bit too much for me.
Don't get me wrong, i like that you have to raise level (i loved the "leaderboard" system of stds)... but level should maybe lock company's feature like in PTDM (where you could only hire a driver having your level max) or to upgrade your company (with more buildings or unlocking the possibility to choose the loads for the other drivers).
What would also be lovely (and i missed it in your previous game (after PTDM)) is the possibility to see your drivers on the road...
I remember looking around for my driver while taking a load to some point and i really miss this(aswell as CB radio(i used to love to answer the wrong thing to other drivers just to here their answer "you need some shut eye")).

And finally, after ETS2 , like a couple of people around here i hope, i wish you go do some US truck sims...
The support for H shifter, the better graphic engine, better physic engine are definitaly something US truck sim haven't got yet (even on older hits like haulin, Ptdm, Across america...(and don't tell me about RNR which is the worst game i have played(9years and still bugged to the bone))

Anyway, thanks for the heads up and keep up the great work!

    1. US truck sim, yes, I am starving for one too. I hope they will return to US after ETS 2 -- while I like the EU rigs they lack the charm (yes, clunky and old) of the big US rigs, in my opinion.

To see a US truck sim with the polish and graphics enginge of Scania TDS/ETS 2, mmhmm, that would be very nice indeed!

Also loved the CB, limited as it was! Was also nice to get a little honk on the horn when you met another trucker, but I suppose it was fewer truck about then...

      Delete
    2. Actually, no. Ferrari doesn't allow anyone to buy the Enzo. You have to have certain older models in your possession. And why is that you may ask? Well because even if you have the money, you can still be a down right peasant who doesn't understand the prestige of owning a Ferrari. They buy it just of the sake of buying it, so no. Money isn't everything.

    3. @Aditzu: Ferrari Enzo was limited edition (only 250cars were produced as much as I know), and we are talking about MB Actros, that is a serial model!

      Delete
    2. No, it wouldn't, since everyone just would download it to play. And since there are going to be bugs, they will say the game's rubbish, despite it's just beta. So they'd better create a form that you have to fill to become a part of beta-testing. And there people would write that they have real-life trucking experience and other stuff, that might be useful :)

  83. SCS, I sincerely wish you to GO FUCK YOURSELVES AND THEN GO FUCKING BANKRUPT. I SWEAR I WILL NOT PAY A CENT FOR YOUR GAME AND I WILL CONVINCE EVERYONE I KNOW TO PIRATE IT WHEN IT'S FINALLY RELEASED !!!

This is truly unacceptable. I have put up with all of your shit for so long in hope that ETS 2 will be great. But now it's over. The line was already crossed too many times and this time my patience has come to an end ! YOU SUCK !!! LICK MY BALLS, SCS SCUM !!!

If people remember, the last time SCS delayed the game, with just as much insolence and blatancy as they did yesterday, I predicted that they will do it again. And voila ! Just as I said a few months ago, if we allow SCS to disrespect our wishes and to wipe their asses with our demands, that will not be the last time they cross us. And time has proven me right. If a lot more people had protested back then, maybe they would have worked harder and the game would have been finished by now. But since everyone forgave them and acted as if SCS was doing us a favour by merely working on the game, as if they were doing it for free and they weren't demanding any kind of payment in order that we play it, they decided that once again they can use the fan community as toilet paper, and with most of us not even minding it !

You really stink SCS ... back in the day, when you first released ETS 1 I had a good opinion about you, but now I realize that you stink to the lowest depths of humanity ! If I ever find myself browsing for games in a shop and I see someone wanting to buy ETS 2 or any other game released by you, I will offer them myself a pirated copy of it, just so you get what you deserve for shitting on us, you stupid bastards !

And no, the excuse that you didn't have enough time doesn't stand. You could have used more people to work on ETS 2 and get it done instead of releasing Scania TDS first ...

Even if I know how much you suck I just can't believe that you're so insolent and so arrogant that you play with us like that and you delay us once more ... Under these circumstances I wouldn't be surprised if the game wasn't released at all in 2012

Look at RockstarGames for example. They have been working on GTA 5 for about 9 months. They have only showed 1 trailer. No more info. Scs keep us updated 3-4 times a week. And the reason it takes so long is because they are 5-7 persons, working on ETS2. RockstarGames are 500+.

That's how it should be done. Good job SCS!

Hopefully one of the people he offers a pirate copy to reports him to the police, one thing is downloading a pirate copy for "private use" (still illegal), going around in stores offering pirate copies to strangers is serious crime.

    1. Interior customization was in one or two of their videos. There were two types of Actors' interior - Trend and other one. Probably that's just it about interior tuning - only a few ways it can look. Well. it doesn't matter that much.

Btw, I was thinking about the whole trucking thing around the game and that that with all the whining on not having enough updates on blog et cetera, we forgot that the game we're talking about is something special on the market and it's going to represent a part of romantic of trucker's life. So maybe we need real-life truckers to cheer us up with talks about how they love they job and how cool it is XD

    1. So you'd rather buy a buggy game then a complete product some time later. Why can't you buy it later? Let me guess, you will have spent all your allowance by that time? :(

      Delete
  109. The only problem is everyone knows that even if it is delayed it will still be bugged . ScS you have never brought out a bugless game and by your own admissions you have a very small staff so a months delay will not make much difference at all to the game UNLESS you then decide to once again delay it even more , which could easily happen if you are ALREADY unsure whthere it will be ready in time

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. he said MAJOR bugs...not bugs.

he also said finished product...ie, they might still be building assets. As for them being unsure of it being ready in time, it's not like they're making a cake here. When making a game you're basically doing everything from the ground up for the first time, even if it is a sequel you're still working at a new scale of details. I can only imagine the pain it must be to not overtax the rendering pipeline and make the game hacky even on high end machines. These things take time to iron out is all am saying...sorry if this sounds condescending but it sounds as though you didn't know this.

  110. You have to be a certain level to buy the trucks and accessories ? Seriously ?
What is the point of that crap . The only restriction should be whether you can afford them

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. TBH I don't really like this move either, it's like they're moving away from simulation to arcade.

levels are fine but only if its meant to represent something you're simulating. In this case I'm buggered if I know what it it they're trying to simulate.

Please SCS, scrap the level requirements for everything that doesn't have to do with the simulation of the trucker's experience increase.

      Delete
    2. There's logic in this. Isn't that obvious? In ETS1, GTS, UKTS and 18WoS we could use a money cheat in the console and buy trucks we need or want. Even if we wouldn't, there always was someone who would. After you tried everything, game becomes boring if you can't enjoy the driving itself. The level thing isn't realistic but at least it gives an intrigue for the ordinary player that's not interested in a trucking that much and takes game more like an arcade.

      Delete
    3. I agree with you Anonymous!
@Edward: sure it's logic, but it isn't necessary! But in the ETS,GTS, UKTS we used cheats so we were able to drive the trucks we wanted, not cheap C class that was driving 75km/h with a trailer. I'd like to see that when you play the game for the 1st time you can choose if you will play by levels or not.
      greets

      Delete
    4. I agree, it's pointless.

      Delete
    5. @Edward: That's only a problem if you cheat, you can't really complain that cheating ruins your game, that goes without even saying. That's like a pirate complaining that game manufacturers are ruining games with DRM.

@Joza: I've already touched on that issue and hope it'll be fixed for ETS2. Weaker trucks need more gears than strong ones, that's the whole idea behind gears anyways, to allow weaker engines to get up to higher speeds, whereas a stronger truck might allow you to skip gears to not waste valuable time shifting all day.

      Delete
    6. I personally think the levels are good. I used to play SCS truck games with my friend and levels are good for cometition, so there is somewhere to go, to be on a better level than my friend is. So who goes to the top fastest.

But as I see, many of you don't like it very much, so maybe yes, player should be able to choose wheter they want the levels or not?

I personally give my support to levels!

      Delete
    7. @Anonymous: I didn't say I was against levels, only that I didn't like the fact that they're now going to level restrict us from higher quality content, I believe that the cash cost is enough.

If I want to wait a little bit and save up some more to afford a better engine or gearbox sooner, I should be allowed to imho, without having to grind my way up in levels...that's all I'm really saying here.

      Delete
    8. You can lvl up by cheating too, in the .txt file from my document/GTS... you can change anything. Lvl, money...etc

This means Edward, that the levels have another objective not an anti-cheat solution ;), i can lvl up from the .txt very easy.

  119. This is getting really annoying, SCS. More delays. You wasted resources on making that Scania fail game, with such high demands in graphics that it barely runs on a decent system with GTS 450. I said before, if you fail the performance on ETS2 too, I will be looking elsewhere, because I don't care how good the game looks, it's not looking good at 10fps.
And no, I'm not going to buy a better card since I can run Crysis 2 at med-high settings, why would Scania need such requirements?
I hope this is the final delay and it's about optimizing the performance on this engine, because right now it sucks.
