Not today

We wanted to release the 1.2.0 Euro Truck Simulator update today, but unfortunately we are not yet ready with the patch. While testing the release candidates over the last few days, we kept finding glitches with each new build. We weighted the pros and cons, but in the end we decided that it would be irresponsible for us to risk releasing a semi-broken patch. Please bear with us; we know that many of you are waiting for the numerous bug fixes and optimizations in this game update. The patch is almost here, but at the moment the best estimate for its release is "early next week."

The paragraph above may set negative tone to the comments on the blog, but let us risk opening a different topic.

We are thinking of creating the first DLC for the game - extending the game world by about a dozen cities. To put this into perspective, our older games like ETS1, GTS or UKTS all had below 20 cities in them, so when it comes to the effort required, this is quite a task, quite an investment.

Would you tolerate it if we put a price on such a game expansion and asked for your money to buy it?

Would you support us if we prepared a campaign on a site like kickstarter.com or indiegogo.com to help us finance the development and give you a chance to pre-order the expansion through it?

We are at a crossroads now. We are committed to improving Euro Truck Simulator 2 for a long time, but we also need to start new project(s) to keep the business going and have new games to sell in the years to come. These priorities are competing for our focus, for the available man power in the team. Crowd-funding may turn out to limit the risks a lot for us to give us the means to grow the team and grow our development capacity to take on more projects or to build our future games faster and with richer feature set. But it's an uncharted territory for us, and we would appreciate your feedback, so that we avoid costly public relations blunders and disappointments.

  1. Well. That's a bit of a disappointment I guess. But look on the bright side, the patch will come. I'd love to se a DLC to this game which I want to include new countries in Europe such as Scandinavia which should include different seasons as well. For example, truck driving in Norway is nothing without a few snow storms or slippery roads.

The weather is a BIG disappointment in ETS2.. i mean, road-condition and weather ARE 75% of hardship in driving trucks.. and is almost totally ignored in a truck-sim? I had hoped SCS would put more afford in that, then all graphic-work.. but as always, looks before brain.. ;(

    2. @Foglander: What ever do you mean? We got rain in ETS2, only thing that's missing from an average RL day is wind, and even then, the only time wind would be in play would be while passing tall bridges.

As far a seasons are concerned, I don't remember ppl whining about the lack of those in GTA4, Unlimited driving 2, or any of a dozen more open world games. Hell, the most popular MMO in the WORLD (which has an earning of over 150 million dollars a year. aprox 10mil subs at 15 dollars)doesn't even have seasons, so WTH?

    3. Woops, messed up there, that'd be 150mil a month, well over 1.5 billion a year...my mistake. :P

      Delete
    4. You are right, there are quite some weather effects missing. First not every rain is thunderstorm. There should be normal rain. And then rain shouldn't always come with fog. And then there should be just fog, in the mornings sometimes for example. And the weather could be a lot more random with times when there is sun for a few days and then perhaps more rain for a few days. What we have right now is 1 thunderstorm every day more or less. Someone show scs the proper use of a random generator.

    5. @Ziland, you are more that right in just few words. ETS2 is different in that is educational and accomplishes that positively, as compare to other open world games. I agree with you that some portion of the billions should go where necessary. SCS Software, ETS2 and other sims are worth buy therefore keep up the good work, ThnQ ;)

    2. Speak for yourself man, it's a necessary evil for smaller companies to keep revenue streams open. It's not as If these guys have huge investors with very deep pockets. Call of duty is developed by a massive software company and is released on many platforms. ETS 2 is a niche game on 1 platform, SCS need to keep the revenue flowing to keep people in jobs. I say go for it lads. (Keep Ireland in mind for any expansions please)

      Delete
    3. I for one don't mind a price tag on the expansion.

Look at the price of the full game guys, that's about the price of a COD expansion, so I doubt they'll overprice it like Activision would.

      Delete
    4. Doesn't speak for me either. I have no problem with paying for Expansion Packs. I want to see SCS grow and continue to make trucking games for a very long time to come. I really hope to see another North American based game in the (hopefully not to distant) future so if paid DLC is what it takes, then that's what it takes. Wanting to see SCS continue is the biggest reason I've bought ETS, GTS, UKTS, T&T, STDS and ETS2. (I'm Canadian so prefer the American games, but must admit I've thoroughly enjoyed most of the European ones ... nice change.)

Also, I've already been tinkering with making mods as in the world editor and can see it's no simple task, especially to create an addon the size of the one SCS mentions in the original post.

      Delete
    5. Ditto. I'll be more than glad to pay for DLC and/or support whatever Kickstarter/Indiegogo fundraiser you SCS guys might come up with. I sincerely love the game and I think it was really cheap for all it offers in terms of content and entertainment, so I really don't mind to pay an extra if that means to see it further expanded. :)

Oh, and I second the comment above about including some Irish locations... I've always wanted to travel to Ireland, and since I can't afford a real trip, a virtual one would be the next best thing. XD

      Greetings from Spain. :)

No one works for free, i think a DLC is acceptable, but, that means it has to be a good content, otherwise... better get that money and drink some beers ... :)
      Go for it!

  6. Map expansions and new trucks I would tolerate for DLC, like a pack for around £5 or something. However regular updates like that to the AI and other features should be free, adding new features and forcing people to pay for them will definitely cause a fracture in the community; I've seen it happen too many times before...

Personally I would like to see map expansions free or at a low price, but you could add more content to it like new trucks and trailers and charge more for them. People would happily pay around £4 for a new 2012 spec truck, but the map expansions I'm not so sure about, especially as people have access to the map editor anyway and can create their own maps (which is a great aspect of SCS Games by the way). Perhaps a better tactic is making people pay for new countries but not the ones already included, whilst I appreciate that France finished would take up a massive amount of the in-game world, people would rather pay to see Denmark or more Balkan countries...

At the end of the day you have to carefully balance keeping your coffers healthy and making the community happy, which you've done a great job of so far :)

    1. One more quick thing, if you used new prefabs in the map expansions, you should make these available to use in the editor regardless of whether people have bought the DLC or not, otherwise you'd have people wanting to use mods that would require them to purchase more in game content, which again would cause problems in the long term and certain people would resort to piracy to make use of the new mods...

      Delete
    2. I seriously doubt they should worry about piracy, there are really only three reasons to pirate, one you can't afford the product or can't pay for it for other reasons, and two you're addicted to getting things for free whenever possible. Neither of those will affect sales, they're simply not part of the consumer based intended audience. The third one is convenience, that may be the case for movies and series, but in this case its actually more of a hassle to pirate than to buy...

Also, the full game costs 3 euros. With that in mind, I seriously doubt any expansion will run the risk of not being worth it. Hell, I smoke half a pack a day and pay 5 euros a pack!

      Delete
    3. oops, 30, not 3. :P

  7. I'l be honest, that would be great, but I think the map is big enough, I think your time would be better put into things to improve the game and add more features on it. Like multi-drop deliveries, side missions, roundabouts better, online leaderbords, new trailers or any more that you can think of.

  10. I would pay for a DLC and participate at any crowd-funding solution. Go for it ;)

    ReplyDelete
  11. Fine with me... but for the DLC... I think bad idea. People are gonna create mods (like me) and those are free so why would you want to buy a DLC?

Anyway sadly there is no update... Little question. Is it a "bug" that when you add roads you loose deliveries???

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Use "Build Map" instead of "Save Map" before driving on your map, otherwise the navigation routes will not be regenerated and with the time there will be no deliveries anymore.

      Delete
    2. I agree with this statement. I bought the game, I got the tools to build extensions and I can download them of form the community and forum for free. In my opinion the additional content should be free, unless it is so large expansion than half of the original game size.

      Delete
    3. I was thinking more of unique vistas for those new cities/countries, and unique landmarks. Not saying it's impossible for modders to do, but doubt it's high on their lists. Also, officially added content gets to be fixed over time, whereas with modded content you always run the risk of it not working in the next patch.

  15. I'd pay for DLC. Especially if it was of Scandinavia (more specific, Norway) with tiny challenging roads :)

  16. I would totally buy dlc, that would be really cool.

    ReplyDelete
  17. I would absolutely pay for the DLC and pre-order it, of course.
Gaming companies need income to continue to function and stay in business.
DLC's or expansion packs are vital in creating more revenue for the companies making them.
For example - Farming Simulator, Cities in Motion and many other games have released and still release DLC's for their games/simulators.
I am personally absolutely fine with that and will purchase all DLC's SCS Software decide to make.

    ReplyDelete
  18. I definitely wouldn’t mind paying for DLC and help SCS fund in the process. The game wasn’t exactly expensive to begin with compared to what you would pay for a new console release. I recently completed a delivery from one end of the map to the other (Aberdeen to Bratislava). Only after this did I really realise the amount of time and effort put into the game.

    ReplyDelete
  19. I'd definately pay for a DLC!

    ReplyDelete
  20. Yeah I would pay for new countries and new trucks in DLC's. I wouldn't pay for other improvements like, AI, driving engine, and general bug fixing.

    ReplyDelete
  21. I definitely wouldn't mind paying for a DLC it all depends on what's in it. 12 new cities, hopefully Lisbon - Portugal would be one, not to say I wouldn't wont it otherwise mind you, might be worth it, but I'd also love to see new features make it to the game, snow would definitely be one of them, more realistic AI and truck behavior, delivery contracts where you'd have exclusive right to certain deliveries from a given company, provided you didn't botch it up that is, just to mention a couple.
No I wouldn't mind paying for new content, maybe even pre-order it, it all depends on the content.
In the mean time I'll be here, anxiously waiting for the patch.
    Keep it up.

    1. Portugal ! Please

      Delete
    2. Definitely like the idea of exclusive contracts, think it'd be a great addition to the game. Maybe reputation tracking with the different companies?

But then, they'd have to add things like punctures, engine troubles (if you don't maintain your truck often enough, repairs should cost more too? or better yet, two types of damage on things, like current state vs permanent state, ie, you drive with unmaintained engine and you get actual unrepairable engine damage, same with tires vs wheels, only option then will be to buy new replacement parts), random roadwork or road flooding in areas where it makes sense.

All to make it so you actually CAN fail your deliveries and actually have to manage your rep.

  25. DLC must be at a reasonable price and have the new model and the ability to play.

The game should expand with new models!

    ReplyDelete
  26. I wouldn't pay for DLC that only added trucks and cosmetic stuff. I don't mind such things offered since there is a customer base for it, but it's not something I have ever paid for.

Euro Truck 2 did come with a set number of countries, and I bought it aware of that and have been satisfied with the existing offering, so I wouldn't be left with the impression that the original game had been "crippled" in order to cash in on DLC (which is what I have felt in other games). If the DLC expanded the area with new countries and tossed in some extra trucks as icing, that is something I would pay for. It would feel less like DLC and more like an old fashioned expansion.

    ReplyDelete
  27. I would pay a limited price for a mapextension DLC, something like 5-7 euros. Because of private mapmakers i dont think that setting a higher price will do anything good for SCS. Another thing i will love to see(and pay between say 7-10 euros for) is DLC's with new truckconfigurations in, say a "heavuhaul package" with 8*4 or 8*6 trucks in it and new loads to go with it. (Windmill parts, large earthmoving equipment, combines etc. Another DLC could contain "old" trucks like the Scania 113 and 143 series, the volvo F12/F16 series etc.

I also have a couple of questions:
Howcome the Volvo FH16 series starts at 600hp and not 540hp, and why isn't there FH12 series ranging from 380hp to 540hp in the game?

The second one is the transmissions. I've seen in betavideos that you can spec a transmission with 12 and 14 gears in it. Why cant i do that in the game? (i know i can use a mod for that)
And also why a 14 speed gearbox, i have never seen one in a truck. I've only seen 8 speed range gearboxes, and 12 and 16 speed split gearboxes. And the automatics ofcourse.

Anyways great game so far, i really enjoy it.
    Greetings from Denmark.

  37. No worries SCS, take the time you need. Im in for quality, not quantity.

I would pay for a DLC as long as the gameplay is extended with more risk options for the "campaign" ie: a full exonomic system to run the truck company. Im not necessary looking for other countries (it will never be enough).

I would rather invest in the basics:
    - Better physics system for the trucks.
    - Better weather options
    - Implement seasons
    - More challenge when hook up a trailer.
    - More realistic load and unload
    - 100 more things... :)

  41. Hi at all

The first thing I want to say is: Thanks SCS. I grew up playing your games. You rock.
After, I (and maybe other simmers) please you to make a Bus Simulator. A REAL bus simulator. Your graphics a features combined with the passion how you put in every game can create the final Bus Simulator.
About the patch you can take all the time you need if this can be useful to make the game better.
About the DLC I quote DannyBee, i wouldn't pay too much for something how modders can create for free. I think 6€ for a DLC how include for example 2 new trucks and 2-3 countries is a reasonable fee. I know you can work hard, but ask for us users would mean lower levels of other video game companies that make you pay up to 10/20 € for DLC. And it is for this reason that those games will not even worthy of a glance.
In the end please add Romania to the game (is one of the countries where ETS 2 is played very much and because this country is full of modderas how can create they the map of Romania, and you can lose a opportunity to insert it in a DLC).

    That's all.

    Bye and good work.

And dont listen to those untolerant people, I know how it is to be coding, where that bugs and glitches appear, and I know the frustration, but many of the people in crowd dont know how it is. So what I actually would suggest is to keep this kind of stuff for yourself. Im not hating updates at all! But looking through this comment section I see people whining about you guys hard work because if you public stuff like this you will reach out to a few guys like me to show that you are working, but it seems like you delay everything for other. So basicly, try to hold delays shut and post more positive updates instead. Like the DLC, that was positive! :D

About the kickstarter question, I don't really like that and if you guys decide to go in that direction, good luck but you don't have my money...obiouvsly I'm a single one, of course you have to do what is best for the company!

    ReplyDelete
  58. Yes I'd buy any DLC as long as the price is no more than about 7-10 euros, or more if they're not very frequent additions.

You should keep creating DLCs for ETS 2 over time and in the background work on a similar game such as a USA, Russia or Scandinavia truck sim for example.

Eventually Steam will greenlight ETS 2 so I doubt you'll need to worry about finance just yet, assuming your current sales are good which I'm sure they are. At least then the DLCs will be easy to manage and will spotlight the game whenever they're released.

    ReplyDelete
  59. Yeah sure, and how long will it be ? At the end of next year ? You are to small to do that. Don't bother, just make this game look, fell and playable by releasing free patches and THEN look for investors. If you got ETS2 reviewed by major game sites, put it on steam and when all the reviews will be positive then money won't be a problem. Its a difficult territory you re trying to enter and you don't even have a proper game ETS2 is good, but as a demo, after 20 hours of play you can easily uninstall, because there is nothing to do! Driving truck is boring I did it myself, but playing ET2, now thats boring ! Maybe change the project manager ?? I don't think he did well this time and needs to go. I do understand how hard you try and how difficult it is but can stop thinking who on earth let you release the game thats is playable for no more than 20h !

Look at the new NFS, project took longer, way more ppl on the team, a ton more vehicle and adrenaline pumped gameplay, and there actually LESS to do in there than in ETS2, played it for 2 hours and I'm done. Broom broom tut tut just doesn't work for me, but ETS2 feels just right for me. I think you should look elsewhere...

I would be glad to pay around 5 euros for that kind of DLC, but I would be ready to pay 10-15 euros for something along the lines of Nordic countries with a bit more extreme trucking in harsher conditions than the usual highway driving you get in Central Europe. Snow and ice, harsh conditions. Hillside roads like in Norway, small dirt roads in the forests and manouvering big logging trucks there like in Finland and Sweden. Lots of smaller roads in general. Less highways and more scenic routes. That would add something different to that we have already seen in the main game and I think people would be ready to pay more for something like this. But of course this is something that would need time and in the meanwhile, smaller DLCs with pricing around 5-10 euros would be great. I have wanted to see North Europe in Euro Truck Simulator since I played ETS1 for the first time.

  61. Devs, as long as you keep fixing and extending the game content (like you do now), you have my full support. Just please do your best to listen to the community requests above and try to make the new areas as diverse and spectacular as possible... This especially goes for the cities. ;)

  64. It depends of how big the DLC would be. A dozen Cities? US$ 5. Other countries like Finland with snow and some other cool stuff, like dirty roads, dangerous slippy roads, US$ 10-15.

Anyway, count with us! Bring it on SCS! Just be sure that everyone can help, with no difficulties to donate.

    Best regards from Brazil.

  65. I always tought that improving/expanding ETS2 for many months means to hire more people, because you logically must develop other titles too. I will support you. I'm not in position to say if kickstarter model is good or bad idea (of course there are tons of variables), if pre-ordering system on your own would work better or worse, I really don't know. All I want is to assure you that I'll buy expansion(s) or support your kickstarter(-like) project.

About patch: take your time! I'm not a game developer, but at least I am software developer too and what I hate is when somebody forces you to release software full of bugs. That can harm your name, and that means money, much more than delayed release. (In fact these words are more for people who called for patch today -- you know very well how things going).

im willing to pay up to 10 euro for a dlc but it must be a good and big one.. i expact you to add the rest of poland, italy and france for free as a patch!!

about new countrys or so we can talk.. spain=10€.. ok.. multiplayer=10€ ok.. another map 10€ ok.. just 1-5 new trucks 10€ not ok.. understand what i mean? good. :)

and yes i would also support Crowd-funding for the dlc's and new games if thay are new roadbased simulators. im less interessted on a deer shooter or something like this.

I'm not sure about paying for dlc for only 12 cities seeing that a lot of people are already trying to create extended maps..but i would pay 15 euro or so if guys could mange to add all European country's ( yes all :D ) so a part of Russia to,okay little islands like Cyprus etc can be ignored. but if u guys mange to do that i would be happy to pay 15 euros...pls consider this, u could make like a 15 euro dlc package deal. in which u release a part of that dlc ( which would cover the whole of Europe ) every month or so. result = Game won't get boring in the long run and u guys get extra cash :)

  72. SCS I'd buy any DLC you offer :) In a DLC or patch I'd like to see improvements in the weather system Snow/Heavier rain extreme fog ect. Great Job on ETS2

    Snake from Canada
    Real truck driver
    Freightliner Cascadia

  73. Let's not make haste! A stable update patch is better than a not so good patch. For me, the game has been stable all the time and there has been no major problems to report so far.
For a DLC, I would like to get France, Poland and Italy complete, maybe more smaller roads between the Autobahns.
Several weather conditions would be nice, snow, fog without rain, wind which makes it tougher to handle the truck, etc.
It's important to have in mind that ETS2 is only a month old, and I think more ads on several sites could help to achieve even more buyers of this game - that would mean increased income.
But in the end, as I got ETS2 fairly cheap on Amazon.co.uk, I would certainly help SCS software by donate or pre-order DLC.
I have by now explored a little over 30 % of the map, - and I love the game!

  74. I liked the idea =)
The SCS is a great company.

    E include:
    - Seasons specific
    - Snow
    - More traffic
    - More varieties of loads
    - Russia
    - Portugal, Spain, Scandinavia
    - Embellishments and souvenir panel truck XDDDDDDDDDDD

    I do pre-purchase.

    And Coca-Cola http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8BCOD3GBG3Q hauahuahua.

  75. I would pay for DLC. You cannot work for free and ETS 2 isn't an expensive game.
Some ways to grow this very beautifull game :
    - driving coaches (and adding ai coaches/buses/motorbikes/vans)
    - adding an external view in a window (additionnal view like the mirrors) to see the truck outside while driving in the cab view. it would be fun if this view had an automatic change(for example : 20 seconds showing the truck far, then 20 seconds showing the tire view,....)

    Thnaks a lot.

  77. And you know what... maybe kickstarter isn't bad idea. After all more people will know about ETS2 or about SCS in general. And it's pretty unique project, so maybe some people who didn't know you yet will join. More people know, more sold copies (not only of ETS2), more clicks on Greenlight, perhaps.

  80. The thing is, you created a wonderful map but it needs more variety. Now the Europe everywhere is kinda the same with changes of hills, mountains and plains. But I recommend to add Southern Europe with subtropical views or maybe eastern/northern Europe with its endless huge forests. In addition, even though it was big improvement, countries still lack some signs with their languages on it. You should maybe add some ads on the map which are in specific language.
Good luck and go ahead, start making new projects, maybe American truck simulator, then Asian, African and then connect them all into Ultimate Truck Sim :DD And keep improving ETS 2!
I would buy your DLCs ;) good luck

    1. What you saying is exactly one of reasons why modders-mapmakers can't make a good map expansion. They would need lots and lots of new models (unique buildings based on real look, southeuropean or nordic vegetation, national road signs, specific railcrossings for each country) and many more things. Not to mention most of mapmakers can't work with many editor features properly, so the output is ugly and buggy. There are only few maps comparable in quality, and these pieces are for 18WoS and ETS. There is no comparable map for GTS and following games. Making good map is harder and hader from game to game. Also, there are often stolen models converted from other games in modded map packs, absolutely not fitting with SCS graphics.

So that's why I think if we want good map expansion, then we can't rely on modders. It's in the hands of SCS. I have no problem with paying for quality. :-)

  81. I'd be willing to pay extra for more cities. I'm not displeased with the amount of towns on offer. £5-£10 for more, which is about what I'd expect to buy it for, won't break the bank.

I'd possibly pre-purchase though I didn't with the game, preferring to buy direct from the company via download if possible.

    ReplyDelete
  82. I would pay for DLC content; but, in my case i would rather buy one big DLC (3 more countries and one more truck brand at least for 15 bucks)than 12 cities only (scenaries only are not good enough)

and the preorder thing seems to be good, just open the option in the official site, and give us some discount on it (like 5 bucks at preorder or something). that would be nice and encouraging for many of us.

and please take your time at it!, i rather have QUALITY, over speed and glitchy, no matter how much time it takes.

    Cheers from South America!

  83. Yeah, I want buy your DLCs for a fair price, but how do you intend to launch it on Brazil? For example, i buyed a key for the full game, not the DVD-CD from the Tech Dealer. Can I buy a new key to open the DLCs? I suggest to you to make severals DLCs like - Scandinavia - Iberia - West France and South Italy - Balcans and, of course, Eastern Europe and Russia. Maybe its way to long, but you have a chance to make this a long time game to all of us, fans from worldwide.
How about, with the new cities, new trucks, like Kamaz, Ford Cargo(had in Turkey and also is my current 'real' truck, i had an old Cargo 4331) or the Actros MP4 (sorry, Majestic MP4)? DAF XF 105 Euro V or Stralis Hi-Wav also...

  84. The first thing to say is that there is a map of Europe appears to be the draft of ETS2 map with cities we currently and could be added in future updates, since it is said that there would be a dozen new cities viewing the map seem to come 13: Gdansk, Olsztyn, Bialystok, Warsaw, Lodz, Lublin, Katowice and Krakow (Poland), Ostrava (Czech Republic), Banska Bystrica and Kosice (Slovakia), Budapest and Debrecen (Hungary).

Also come in different color 4 cities in Italy that could be for the following DLC: Genova, Bologna, Ancona and Rome.

The second would have to know if these are the cities and countries will be added in the DLC, if these cities were added, would have much acceptance especially in Poland, Czech Republic, Hungary and Slovakia and in those countries would like the DLC, but in other countries like France, Italy (in part), Spain, Portugal, Scandinavia and Eastern countries would be less interested. There would also be many people who only care about having more countries leave the country and they were equal would buy the DLC.

So I think if now is the DLC with these 12 to 13 cities and is said to be more DLC's with more countries in the future, people will buy it, because it is very big this game and all expect to be much more broadly map and game features.

About the price .... I think that between 5 and 15 Euros would be nice, you could also make a mutual fund, for those who want to give money to free SCS.

Here the map that this online: http://k43.kn3.net/1BC3E31B2.jpg

Anything to improve the game will be welcome, if necessary pay about 10 Euros will be a very good investment, I want to not do a DLC and think about the next game, collecting money for the DLC's could be extended much time the ETS2 and thanks to that SCS makes money and we enjoyed the game more.

I will gladly pay for DLC to help fund the effort that goes into the long term support of ETS2 !

    Map expansions : awesome !
    New 2012+ trucks : awesome!
Older classic trucks : awesome !
    New trailer styles : wonderful!
    New load types : spectacular!
No hassle w/broken mods :priceless !!!!

  87. Personally, I'll buy ANYTHING regarding new cities, countries, landmarks and new possibilities of truck modding (for example side cover panel on 6x4 trucks).
I'd buy it even if 1 country bigger one like france/italy would cost about 5e each since i love riding long distances and enjoying the view.

So 1 bigger DLC with slovakia, france, italy, poland finished and spain+portugal as new content for price around 20e would be acceptable i think.

    ReplyDelete
  88. Of course we will buy the DLC, especially if it helps to continue the development of ETS2.

And no, there's no rush for the updates while there.

Good job and I look forward to the DLC.

  89. I would definitely pay for DLC's but I think its great oppurtunity to customize the game without making it a one size fits all for example

    DLC 1
    weather pack

    DLC 2
    Map expansion

    DLC 3
    Truck pack

etc etc which would aloow people to add what they want to make the game tailor made (but im guessing even if you give some people everything they want they still wont be happy)

each DLC could be 3.99 euros to cover costs

    ReplyDelete
  90. I think around 15 Euro would be fair. Scandinavia, Rest of France and Italy, Spain and Portugal and maybe other parts of Eastern Europe and Ireland. New Trucks and Loads would be also awesome. So a DLC for additional Countries and another for Trucks including Trailers would be fair.

As a new project maybe a game like the classic 18 Wheels of Steel Series.

    ReplyDelete
  91. I would pay for DLCs for this game well worth it. The preorder idea is good as well. I would like to see older trucks in the game not just new trucks. Keep up the great work!

    ReplyDelete
  92. I will gladly pay for DLC's... as long as the quality is at least as good as the current game.

Rather than map expansion, I would rather see more depth added to the game:

More interaction with your employees (see their location on map, see them on the road and in garages, occasional bad behavior/performance so you have to let someone go)

More options for trucks (transmission choices, proper low roof interiors, etc.)

More random challenges that jeopardize your delivery (severe weather, traffic accidents/jams, equipment failures, etc.)

And anything else that would help to bring the game to life.

But I would pay for map expansion if that's the direction you go....

    1. FODEN
    2. ERF
    3. LEYLAND
    4. SEDDON ATKINSON

  97. I think the game opens doors to a wide variety of items that can be implemented. I hope you SCS, can bring it to us, because this game has great potential to grow further. So think big.

There's several good ideas here also have my own too. Hope you can add all the good ideas to the game.

I think the game still deserves to be improved before any DLC, but if you go ahead with the idea (and I believe you will), do add a lot of content in each DLC that you plan to release. I speak not only of aesthetics or more cities... Add some elements that alters the mechanics of the game including, for example, the economic part of the game, with more options for management.

I agree (in part) with what some say about the roads: That the roads all look the same because there are few details that make each one different. Why not add dirt roads as shortcuts option? And along the way see farms, animals, eventually ... That would be an additional cut that the current linearity. But it's just an idea regarding roads. Many other ideas could be exploited. I will give more examples:

What if there were events during the course of the game? It would be nice to have events like oil on the track, road works, accidents ... and being warned by radio. Yes, that radio system 18 Wheels of Steel.

Also, having seasons would be great. I like the effects of the game ... Get more of them and the graphics engine would be great.

What I expect is the addition of more and more elements and realistic details to be implemented in the game, thus increasing the realism of the simulator.

    ReplyDelete
  98. Yes, I would surely buy it, because I love the game! And please SCS, create some new loads, wide loads, that would be fantastic!

  105. Do not worry, the fans will support you! You are the only one of its kind and keep the quality high. It deserves respect!

    ReplyDelete
  106. More cities will be good, but you can try work on trailers more to next DLC. Trailers are the weakest part on this game.

Next thing what would be good is players can change the color of wheels.

And one more thing. I ride with DAV (DAF) truck in this game. But when I want to change the color to some skin, the skin is broken. The colors are elsewhere and lines or some tribals are elsewhere than where has to be. On SCANIA, VOLVO, Mercedes I didn't see this bug.

And yes, I will support you when you want some project on kickstar or something else.

    ReplyDelete
  107. Id love to see some Dlc's although I must request that they be large Dlc's with many changes (new areas and trucks). Rather than a railworks style €5 per individual change.

Also a suggestion for exploration for those of us who have enough money ingame would it be possible to add a car or two to make it easier to explore.

  108. Dear SCS developpers!
Thinking of selling map mods for ETS2
You choose a wrong way to look for money. It looks as if you wish to sell the same game twise.
This way you will never become a big prosperiouse company! Your mod would buy at least half of those bought your game. And shurely you lose a part of your fans, who expected map mods for free.
Why shouldn't you look for more money for the game promotion from supermarket chaines? From small and big shops and producers of ANY goods and products?? From those, who is looking for promotion of their goods and products? who wish to make reclama of their goods enywhere??
The theme of your game itself stands close to delivery and selling goods and products - let the names of goods and products be as real too, as the logos of trucks in the game!
Those McDonalds, Adidas, De Bijenkorf, Primark etc - let them take their part too, in every country, which is in the game.
Tell your potential sponsors that a fan (many more of fans) of ETS2 will become their products marks' fans too, when they will see their names every day in their favourite game!
I'm fond of ETS2, and so everything that I see in my favourite game is going to be my favourite too! Clothes marks, cosmetics, food, and furniture, even the names of hotels and voyage tours which will be advertised inside the ETS2!!
Make models of their companies, shops, hotels and show your potential sponsores how it will look in the game....
I even agree to see a short reclama film of one of sponsores of the game before the game begins, or during its loading or during sleep in the game...
This is what could bring you much more money to get more oppotunities to develope your simulation games and not disappoint your fan community.
My best wishes to your work! I'm fond of your truck simulator games!
    VK.

  110. Q: Would you tolerate it if we put a price on such a game expansion and asked for your money to buy it?
A: Yes, definitely. This even coming from a person who doesn't generally gets interested in driving sims, but was quite amazed by ETS2 quality.

Q: Would you support us if we prepared a campaign on a site like kickstarter.com or indiegogo.com to help us finance the development and give you a chance to pre-order the expansion through it?
A: Yes, I will. However, I'd like to notice that one should carefully consider the "scope" of such a project before launching it. For example --
    1) A project just about the expansion/DLC? Then it automatically means that your target audience will consist ONLY of people who bought and liked the main game. Which may be quite underwhelming.
    2) A project just about adding extra cities in a driving sim game? Even more underwhelming.

However, that of course depends on your target goal. Getting a modest amount of money out of such a project may be possible.

    ReplyDelete
  111. I would be prepared to pay for DLC (look at any mainstream game) however, I wouldn't be prepared to aid you in founding for it though through Kickstarter or indigogo:
No guarantee the DLC would be released, So that' a financial loss for end user and developer.

    ReplyDelete
  112. I am willing to pay below €3.03 for a dlc but nothing more.

    ReplyDelete
  113. No and yes, just do it like the Flight Simulator. There is payware and freeware. People can make things for free but also charge if it's really good. If I would be charged for something that should already be there it's stupid. For example, half of Europe is missing, say what, 90 percent is missing. Charging for example for the other 90 percent would mean I quit the simulator.

    ReplyDelete
  114. Instead of DLC you could be better releasing a new version every year. Because, will the DLC be available in a new version of ETS? If I were you I know what I would do, just as Apple does, every year a new version. full price but with new trucks, countries, updates and support

    ReplyDelete
  115. On an unrelated note --

Can you please consider adding some functionality to the stream radio? Namely, the ability to process .pls (playlists) files from an url, instead of only accepting direct stream urls?

    Something like:
    1) HTTP GET from the url -> am I getting a stream or a file that is supposedly playlist? If it's a stream, just play it. If it's a playlist;
    2) Process the first entry, grab the stream url from there and try playing it. If everything went well, then that's all, if not;
    3) Process the next entry, doing the same thing.

Etc, etc, until either finding a playable stream, or processing the list to its end.

The reason for this is the fact that most online radios work through playlists, so to get a proper direct url for you ETS2 config, you have to do a lot of extra steps (and redo them periodically).

PS: Of course, it's only if it isn't too much work.

  116. for example:
Train Simuulator 2012 (Railworks) has dozens of DLC and is popular, as well as on Steam.
The DLC should be at 1/10 the price of games and carry new models and variety in the game.

    1. But frankly, I consider TS's approach to DLCs horrible. It's too much of a "selling extra swords" in Skyrim and the like. DLCs that's like "1 extra train" and "1 extra path" are simply bothersome.

I'd prefer more substantial packs (for a proportionally larger price, of course), rather than to be spoon-fed.

  117. I would pay for a dlc that is introducing a more complex company management system. The current found company/buy trucks/hire drivers system is the weak part of the simulation. ETS2 would get 80+ review ratings with an extended management system.

    1. In my opinion, it would be much better if they patched up the "holes" in the management system by free patches, while making money off extra trucks/cities.

PS: And I totally agree that better management mechanics can turn this game from "good" to "excellent".

Remember when this blog started it was all about ets2 then you got us all to buy trucks and trailers for 20 euro this pushed ets 2 back for a while and we were very patient. then along came STDS which most of us also paid for. Now you are trying to sell the bits that should have been included in ets2 to the people who already bought your watered down beta versions. Very bad form in my opinion. I have bought ever sim you have brought out since hard truck 18wos and feel that you starting to take the p**s now.

    1. exactly you are trying to milk people because you know you can. we all liked the way this was a small company who allegedly cares about its fans but now you seem to be turnig into something like EA who constantly change little things and charge fans full whack because they can.

  124. I'd pay for a DLC that bring big stuff, not just one truck and two cities, for exemple.
And I'd pay also for new games from your team. Especially a new american version of truck simulation :)
    ETS2 is awesome.

  125. If DLC comes out I'll definitely buy it (if it will be good for me, of course).

P.S. "extending he game" Pavel, You've missed "t" in "the".

  126. i say better wait on patch and see 2-5 things fixed and 10 new bugs in the game, so good call on that ..

YES i can pay for it to get more citys and toys for my game..

KEEP up the good job SCS team

  127. I'm not sure about paying for dlc for only 12 cities seeing that a lot of people are already trying to create extended maps..but i would pay 15 euro or so if guys could mange to add all European country's ( yes all :D ) so a part of Russia to,okay little islands like Cyprus etc can be ignored. but if u guys mange to do that i would be happy to pay 15 euros...pls consider this, u could make like a 15 euro dlc package deal. in which u release a part of that dlc ( which would cover the whole of Europe ) every month or so. result = Game won't get boring in the long run and u guys get extra cash

  128. I personally would like to see new trucks in the DLC, other than new cities on the map. The map is big enough for now. Keep it like this for a while, we can't explore it so quickly.

    I propose, you should make:

    MB Actros mp4
    New Volvo FH 16
    Iveco Stralis Hi-Way
    New Daf XF 105

    Thanks a lot SCS!

  129. I think, SCS, what you should to is a poll.

Ask people, what they would like to see most in the upcoming DLC. Like trucks, map extention etc, otherwise you won't now, what would be our favorite addition.

    Think about this really!

    Best regards,
    fan

  130. First of all i would certainly pay for a DLC. But a map expansion? Yes maybe, but i would, like many others, prefer a feature expansion yet.
The gameplay right now is just hauling from A to B and occasionally buying new garages, trucks and hiring employees which makes like 1% of gametime, so it's pretty repetetive soon.
I would like to see ways to interact with npc's, even if it's just emails though getting out of the truck for example, walking into one of my garages and meeting a driver there or a secretary that i need to employ to manage the garage would be cool. Or being able to get into the hotel and finding all kinds of people there, such as drivers like it was in 18 WoS games or people that ask for help delivering something (nono not drugs etc.).
There could also be kinda main storyline like special hauls for the mega construction site of the fusion reactor in France for example.

More cities, more types of cargo etc. is nice but it doesn't really make the game richer.

The weather needs some serious improvements. Hate the predictable daily rain. Seasons would be an important topic. Make one ETS2-year be like 24-36 ingame days and include snow and snowy landscape dependend on geographic position! That would be awesome. Or include nordic countries with a winter setting at least like it was with Canada in 18 WoS games.

And finally, i don't see a reason why you would suddenly need crowd funding for a DLC. So far you never needed that for any game - unless you are developing something else in the background parallel to the DLC.

And i hope that background development is a real sequel to 18 WoS Haulin/Long Haul. That would be awesome with the new technology and quality of ETS2.

I still play, even with ETS2 around, occassionally 18 WoS Long Haul and i'm still waiting on a patch for the download version ;)

  131. SCS dont put pressure on yourselves. We see the efforts, intelligence, time and money well spent to invest in your simulations. We are here to support you all the way. It costs money to come up with such work of art. Expand the game which ever way you prefer and we will support you all the way.

All the way from Southern Africa. Wish you success in all that you desire to accomplish.

  132. As I mentioned in a previous blog post, I am not against paid DLC, however it really depends on how much content would be available for the price.

For me, €10 would be about my limit per DLC I would be willing to spend, depending on the content of the DLC. When it comes to DLC full disclosure of what it contains prior to purchase is a must. Though I would consider a break down of €1 per city to be fair.

In the end there is only one thing that would outright stop me from paying and that would be if paypal was not accepted. (I notice Kickstarter does not use it)

  133. sorry not paying for expansions here i refuse to pay again for a game that i have already got.i find this insulting and money grabbing by the company responsible take BF3 for instance pay £40 for the game then 3 months after release they want you to spend another £40 to "become premium" its not on .......

  134. I would also pay for a DLC if it's 'big' enough. There must be quite a few cities in good quality. Maybe more from the North Denmark, Norway, Sweden, Finland, more from 'South' like Austria, Italy, 'West' like France and Spain...

And it would be also a great improvement if there would be seasons in the game, especially snow...

    Greetings from Austria

  135. I would pay for a dlc of older model trucks ie
    scania 3/4 series
    volvo f/early fh
    daf 3300/ old 95
and assorted older others as long as it wasnt too expensive. You could also then implement a used truck shop wich makes expanding your business cheaper. In the old 18 wos of steel games there were different ages and configurations of trucks from the beginning and a used truck shop. This would be great.

  136. So if we don't pay, bugs don't get fixed?

In your other games I used to be able to see a log of my driver's activity. has this gone now? to be honest i was expecting some graphs and the like.

I do remember the UK being added to ETS1, that seemed "tacked" on somehow.

    1. Oh yes! This has bothered me. But then again I'm a stats freak.. :) I recall the log in ALH being pretty extensive.. Sometimes (a lot of times) a driver activity pops up that I for some reason don't have time to look at or I simply go to the menu or something and then I have no way to see what happened (at least not what I have found).

So if there actually is a log, I am sorry, please correct me and redirect me. :) I mean, things like seeing how many speeding or incident tickets you gotten etc. I thought stats like that was a given in any type of open world games nowadays.. :|

    2. I dont see where they said that if we dont pay that bugs wont get fixed. It looks like you are just complaining for the sake of it trexor. The bugs will get fixed even if we dont buy DLC and if you didnt pay for the game then its your fault if patches dont work for you.

  137. I would pay, but it would depend on the price and what you would offer for it

  138. DLC ok, but DLC with scandinavia countries and weather appropriate, other trucks.
DLC need to be quality and quantity.
Not a DLC with 4 trucks for 5 Euros

You must be consistent with yourself and the community, respect is master word

Congratulation for the work on ETS2! and for the future you must be consistent with yourself and the community

    Ps:Sorry for my english

  139. I think it is a too risky business.
People would only pay for something new. And, in this case, they only will pay for their country (as you can see from the comments above) and for a lot more stuff. They already invested in the game.

    ReplyDelete
  140. I would pay for DLC if it added new regions (Norway, please!). I would not pay if it only added cities to the region we have already. Since a lot of cities are pretty similar (every company looks exactly the same in all cities) I am more interested in extra roads leading to other parts of Europe (again, like Norway). I wouldn't mind paying 5 or maybe 10 euro's for for instance the whole of Scandinavia. I also wouldn't mind seeing more roads in the current region and also more realistic (wide) roads: I don't like those two lane (on one side) highways were the right lane turns into the turn off and you have to drive on on one lane: I've never seen that in real life and it feels unrealistic. I like the highways in East-Germany and Poland: 3 lanes wide.

    ReplyDelete
  141. I would yes and 50 euros per pack if it contains any multiplayer or online!
You ever do that or dreams?

    ReplyDelete
  142. Personally, I think you need to concentrate on the core game first before releasing any more content; The game just doesn't have much depth or realism - pick up a load, drive, cruise control, snooze.

Its all very well making it look pretty and I know you have gone to great lengths to reproducing digital copies of trucks, but its all a bit wasted if the game does not feel like a simulation.

    How can you address this?
    -Attention to detail, for example:

-- make all of the switches in the cab animated, turn on the heaters and hear it blowing.

-- Window screenwash, which sprays water and automatically does a couple of window wiper cycles.

-- Tyre blow out, breakdowns, repaired at the roadside by call out service rather than being magically transported to your nearest depot.

-- The company yards need to be more varied and difficult. Entrances controlled by barriers at the security office. Have other trucks driving in and out of the yards.

    -- Multi-Drop jobs

-- Curtain sided trailers that can be pulled back and loaded/offloaded by a forklift truck.

I'm sure I will get shot down saying this is SCS is only a small company limited funds etc, I know this - but if you are talking about expansions, it is my opinion that the core game needs to be stronger else you will only get hardcore fans buying the DLC for what will only be something that looks pretty.

If you do go down the DLC route, then that's fine if its for additional tractors/trailors/maps - Railworks train simulator have an extensive catalogue.

    ReplyDelete
  143. "DLC" still gives me a sour taste, I haven't really gotten on that train yet. But ETS2 could easily be the thing. :) The problem with DLC is generally that it's so OBVIOUS that it's only for the money. But in cases like this it feels completely different. I'd support the use of Kickstarter, there you get a more precise list of things that should/will be included and such.

I'd like to add something to the suggestion box too:
How about some extra reward for parking the trailer well? At the moment you can almost park it sideways but still get XP.. Well no, it's not that bad, but you hopefully get what I mean. I sure would like some more XP for excellence. Same pretty much goes for attaching the trailer.. That wouldn't necessary add XP, but I'd like for it to be a bit harder, requiring you to be somewhat more on the spot.

American Long Haul is the only other trucking game I've played to some extent and I recall it being quite a lot harder on both points, but that might be just because I used to play with a gamepad (and now I have a G25).

  144. I like the idea of crowdfunding.
Paying for the DLC would be fine to.

  145. You know the biggest mistake SCS made in that post is telling us that its "Estimated" early next week the patch will be released because you will have people goping all out angry if the patch isn't released by wednesday. SCS should have said Estimated monday week or something like that. That way if its early people wont have something else to rage about. After all theres more than enough whinging going on in this blog every time there is a new SCS post done.

    ReplyDelete
  146. Hi SCS Software ! Super game, thank you for your hard work and good play. I think that the game was over, would be closer to the simulator if you add to it and correct it,

1-visual damage (broken lights, windows, turn signals, etc.).
2-year change (mud, snow, ice, fog, wind) for this can make winter tires and headlights anti tumanki.
3-would love to see Mercedes Actros MP4 as well as old trucks 80s 90s.
4-A lot of people, and police vehicles.
5-Car AI drive like on rails, even the wheels do not turn (correct).
6 More narrow roads (fun to ride on them.)
7-The opportunity to see their employees on the road (and track their movement on the map).
8 The ability to lower the glass (then the noise in the cabin will be more).
9 Stations of the service-not only in cities but also on the tracks.
10 The ability to make its own way on the map.
11-If the caller 911 is small damage they could fix in place and not to overtake a truck in the city.
    12 extra buses, motorcycles, etc.

    Thank you, Regards, Oleg, Russia.

  147. I wouldn`t mind if you charge the DLC with 5e but if you are goning to make such a step, then please make a DLC with new truck models, 5 of them, new: Man, Volvo, Iveco, Daf, Mercedes!
