Scania Streamline beta on Steam

We are preparing Euro Truck Simulator 2 update version 1.8 for release. Despite our best effort, our new AI code and physics improvements need more time "in the lab" as programmers are still tweaking things based on tester input. Therefore we decided to bring forward the release of a new vehicle model - Scania R edition bearing the legendary Streamline name! Such an important release deserves it's own version number bump, the planned code changes will therefore appear in future 1.9.x release.

Currently 1.8 is available in beta branch on Steam. This should be the final testing window, hopefully very short, and soon we'll be able to bring it out of beta on Steam and eventually also release the standalone patch for non-Steam players. Retail update takes quite longer to produce and test, plus setup the mirror servers so that our own infrastructure isn't immediately overloaded. But rest assured that it is coming asap as well.

Streamline trucks were always Scania's most leading, technically proficient trucks, with focus on efficiency and driver comfort. We hope that you will have fun trying out the new truck in our game!

Here's is a cool Scania Streamline video preview made by DaSquirrelsNuts:

    5. Well, I'm not a pirate gamer, I bought both original game and DLC and have also 6 year steam account. But I don't know how to add ETS2 to my games cause I didn't bought it via steam but in a shop.
So I think users like me are a bit discriminated.
Although I accept the fact, that a bit later publishing of update for non-Steam users will benefit from deletion and correction of errors that were found during beta-testing.

  5. Stop favoring Steam users please, we, non steam players also wants beta patches on retail version, not only with promise that maybe you will release them out of Steam too.
I paid same money as Steam users and want same content as they get, I know that retail game can be registered on steam but that's no argument, Steam version came much later than retail but you benefit their users against us, non Steam players. Why I must wait for your goodwill that you will decide to release their content to all....
Your sentence "soon we'll be able to bring it out of beta on Steam and eventually also release the standalone patch for non-Steam players" really disturbing me, especially word "eventually".

    1. Many ETS2 players probably don't realize how much effort SCS is still putting into improving the game over a year after the original release. We do it with love, but it is a burden limiting our ability to work on future stuff. It means trade-offs to make, balancing things out, juggling several live projects and teams at the same time.

We do it for you, because this is what we consider to be the right thing to do. The reality of Steam vs. non-Steam updates is such that releasing an update on Steam is "one mouse click" for us and waiting for 5 minutes to get the new build uploaded to Steam system. After that, anybody on Steam can play the game 10 minutes later. If we make a mistake, pulling the build, or releasing a hotfix on Steam is again a matter of hours, not days. On the other hand, releasing a non-Steam update takes ages. Just testing the cumulative patch means trying to apply it to dozens previous releases of the game. Then it takes communicating with the mirror sites and waiting for confirmation that the patch is up. We are paying not exactly small money for 3 file servers dedicated just to serving our downloads, but this is far from enough, on "patch days" downloads slow down to a crawl, and even in other days it means the downloads are not fast enough.

In summary, creating the non-Steam updates slows us down, and costs us time and money that we could spend on the game itself. People here are blocked doing non-productive things for extended periods of time rather then developing something new for you. And if we do make a mistake in retail patch, taking it "back" is much harder, as we need to go through the full cycle of re-testing it before release. (That's why the Steam player base is currently used somewhat as the final testing zone before we are really ready to commit to going through cooking the retail patch!). Now perhaps you see our motivation to gently nudge our player base towards Steam

      Delete
    2. Probably because Valve wants it that way...it must be one of the condition to put game on Steam...also its easier to gather info about game behaving via steam...

      Delete
    3. "Many ETS2 players probably don't realize how much effort SCS is still putting into improving the game over a year after the original release."

I must reply to this...So what if year has past since release. To be honest your game is good, but not that good to be put aside year after releasing it. Many of things that are being corrected now should have been in game on the day of release. Okay I understand you are small team and things need time, but we all paid for our game and we have every right to demand things to be corrected not just you to release it, take our money and forget game afterwards. There are many things in game that can be improved in gameplay mechanics not just cosmetics. There are lot of good mods, why not take those good things and incorporate it in game. Anyway since you are small team,it would be better for you to build good base on this game and just take it and improve in further trucking games.

      Delete
    4. Haven't you understood a word of SCS's comment? It has nothing to do with Valve it's just much more efficient method of posting updates. Even more so considering that we get an update every week or so.

      Delete
    5. Why do they «favor» the steam users? Because steam has an infrastructure to simply give beta to users. If SCS want to give beta easily to everyone, then they need to build the same infrastructure. But who would build and support it? SCS themselves, instead of making game better? I think you will be against it. Or maybe you can do this yourself? Also, this infrastructure would require a lot of money — will you pay for beta? Or you want to make pay all the game owners?

So if you want beta free, now and without detriment to game's development, use steam. It's not that bad, actually.

    6. SCS enough that puts blog news, releases a lot of patches , they still listen to the players and try to fulfill their whims. But when some of the " players " and still resent insult SCS , it is already over the edge ! Fuck off, motherfucker!
Use your key to activate the game on Steam, if you want the betas sooner... and stop being such an asshole!
I ain't seein' you going to BMW or MB, after buying the car, to get free technology and improvements installed, so don't act like you own the world.
You paid, you got what you paid for. Yo even had a very good chance to test the product, before buying it.
      SO, shut the fuck up!!!

Apologies, people, but I couldn't help it.

      SCS, please delete this comment.
      Thank you.

    8. Generally I keep out of the stupidity on this blog, but I can't help my self here.

SCS have just explained exactly why they use Steam for these Beta patches, which is an explanation that makes perfect sense. It's not the ideal situation, nor is it some conspiracy. But since every copy of the game can be activated on Steam. You have a choice. Use Steam, and get the Betas, don't use Steam, and don't get the Betas. It's that simple. Since most pc gamers use Steam, to the silent majority it isn't a problem.

Secondly in response to "Anonymous December 5, 2013 at 12:06 PM"

I've never read a more over entitled comment in the entire time I've been coming to this blog. So what your saying is the game you bought, which cost half of what most games cost on release, has to get all this new content, and this is something that is to be expected? When was the last time any other game company did this? It's not as though we're paying a monthly fee. Most games get bug fixes IF your lucky. I own quite a few games, that cost a lot more than ETS2, that have game breaking bugs that will never be fixed. The new volvo, Iveco, Scania, and eventually DAF could all quite easily be DLC, in most games they would have been, and really probably should have been. A lot of other new developments such as the up coming AI, new physics and then the already implemented fuel consumption simulation, air brake etc, could very easily have been held back for ATS or ETS 3. That is exactly what most companies would have done. Just because SCS chose to provide these improvements free of charge, it doesn't mean your actually entitled to them, try being a bit more thankful. The game you bought last year was still the best game in the genre, by a long way. Since then its improved a lot. SCS is, after all a business, and they've put a lot of extra man hours in to the game that they'll never see a penny for.

With so many users like you, I'm really not looking forward to the day SCS announce on this blog that ETS 2 is finished, and there will be no more feature updates Its going to be very interesting.

    10. @SCS - please do not let such idi... I mean customers as Mr. Anonymous earlier get to you. You and any other company will always have a small percentage of ungrateful bastards, which you CAN NOT satisfy because their purpose in life is to "demand" more and more and never be satisfied.

I think I speak on behalf of many satisfied customers (correct me if I'm wrong) - we're grateful for all the work you continuously put into this and other upcoming games and you'll see our support on your bank accounts upon each new release, keep them coming, what you've achieved with ETS2 considering the size of the original team is almost superhuman and we appreciate it.

Now @Anonymous... although... you know what, it's not even worth it ;)

SCS is using steam to test new updates and than they will release finished work to all the non-steam players including me. So people come down everything will be fine. We need to wait a little longer than steam players, so what? :) They can't afford to lose non-steam players. Relax everybody and stop arguing. bolus(World of Trucks)

Also you guys made loads of money buy making us pay for the DLC so pull your fingers out of each others crack holes and keep us all happy and stop favouring one over the other simple

      Delete
    14. Colin Forknall: Thing is, you did get, what you paid for. You should be happy for it as it was released. At least i was happy i would be still, if SCS didn't update it.
I don't care, if SCS made huge money on it, because they could get their money and take a rest on beach while thinking about new game, such as Coach sim, ATS or ETS3. Many of other game developer do that and i can't imagine any other soft company which provides such development after sale without any additional costs...

And, if you can't wait, because you are such an imb****, you can transfer your game to Steam, believe or not, works the same way on it and you can try as much betas as you survive...

I'm also looking forward to the new ai code and your physics, I think they are the most important features.

In Steam client, in the top menu select Games > Activate a Product on Steam... and enter your Product Key to add the full version of the game to your library on Steam.

    2. Its with tear in my eyes I write this. Thank you, I've seen a few really nice comments here among all the bullshit, gives me some hope back.

SCS do more for us and this game we love then almost any developer out there often with way less resources then others, this game is a niche game after all, might be selling alright but its not COD, dont know how it stands up against farming simulator, hope it beats that, because that game is a mess compared to this.

I bought AC4 Black Flag yesterday, that game feel unfinished and broken. And cost alot more then ETS2 does, even if I count all DLC's it wouldbe cheaper to buy the sim.

Look at Forza released for Xbox One, apparently they withhold cars that where suppose to come with the game and are going to sell them as DLC's for insane prices. And SCS, spends months on trucks and just give them away for free to us, and still people come here and more or less spit in SCS devs faces... its heartbreaking reading some of the stupid shit people say here.

So THANK YOU for the positive comments.

and BIG TANKS to SCS! You guys are awesome, I've said it so many times, and you guys dont disapoint so I will keep saying it! :D

  39. In Scania dash fuel consumption gadget(below speedometer) doesn't show the same info as fuel consumption in the LCD screen. In top gear it stops at around 55l/100 and in LCD it still climbing to 60,70+l/100km

I don't drive Scania's a lot, so i just noticed this when i bought Scania Streamline.

Looks like a small bug to me.

    ReplyDelete

    1. That is becouse Top gear is about cars, and Scania is a truck, it comsumes a lot more fuel.

      Delete
    2. Are you stupid, or just want attention? By "top gear" i mean, 12th gear in the truck. I'm not talking about the TV Show. Those two gauges doesn't match when driving in "top gear". Gauge under the speedometer is off and doesn't show the same as dash LCD display.

      Delete
    3. Also, in Volvo Classic trubo gauge in the dash still doesn't work properly when in 8th or higher gear. This is probably because SCS made dash animations when speed limiter was always on. Now that you can turn it off in the settings, some dash animations are off when going more than speed limiter, when it was on.

      Delete
    4. Actually you don't even have to drive over the speed limit to see that the animations are off....

      Delete
    5. Scania gauge show instant consumption in litres per 100km, display shows average consumption in litres per 100km and instant consumption in litres per hour. These three values are all different.

      Delete
    6. Thanks for clearing that up. Now it makes sense! So this just leaves Volvo dash.

    1. I don't have anything against having older trucks in the game, but it would take too much time.

And traffic jams? No thanks, people are not playing games to just sit behind their desk, staring at the screen and doing nothing. Well, at least I don't...

So happy to see new trucks! That's great! SCS is my favorite game developer, i really got a lot for my money. Thank you SCS!

    2. Yes, Scania removed on the left and right front sides big things wich worked as a mirror and door handles cleaner, in stead of this, the add tiny flaps with a chrome edge, just above the headlights. They also changed the sunshade. Al this improvements are just for save fuel and you can't see these very well. At last, they changed the interior, now SCS has made a V8 exclusife. Saving fuel were the thoughts of the Scania men, not make a whole new truck, like Volvo did.

I t would make the truck more aerodynamic and looks much better. I have wanted spoiler for scania trucks sinse I started to play this awesome game. Thank you SCS for the greate and fantastic work and effort you have been putting in this game. I love it so far and still will love it. :)

As Anonymous' could be anyone, I've taken the liberty of using the thread post dated .....December 6, 2013 at 7:35 AM and editing it to something I feel would be a better representation of the mature and mostly likely more quiet part of this forum community. My edits are encapsulated in '[ ]' brackets.

SCS you promise AI re-write, optimization of game, new trucks, real sounds. [You are clearly working on all these items and of course I want it sooner but I realise that quality takes time]. But all you did is a minor customization of Scania which a moder can do in 1 hour in 1.8 update... [but nevertheless, I thank you for putting more official content in the game by way of consolation and I understand that your standards of workmanship are high and you will not push out an buggy unfinished patch knowingly to satisfy those who suffer from instant gratification and immediate criticism syndrome. I support you here and look forward to the AI patch when you feel it is ready to publish. Hopefully sooner rather than later please please please as it is difficult to remain patient]

Also hdr and bloom need to be remake, ability for player to change driver position without using camera mods, better anti-aliasing and much more [which I am sure you are already aware of and have on your list of things to do. I mention these items as they are important to me and appreciate that you have an understanding of where these items appear in your prioritised 'todo' list. ]

So please stop giving us promises and excuses and make it happen..... [is not the message of this post even if sentenses above may communicate that. You have always been clear and transparent with the community, you've always been upfront about your capabilities, the size of your engineering team and the speed at which you can move. You've also clearly stated many times that you will not push out rushed unfinished updates. Nevertheless, my enthusiasm for this game is so strong that it is difficult to contain the feeling of "I want it NOW". I know you understand many in the community feel the same because the base game is SO good and that you use this to maintain your motivation to develop and improve the game further.]

[Many thanks for a great game and keep on truckin']

  65. I have a question regarding steam since I'm not familiair with it.
Being a customer with a non-steam copy, if I add my game to a steam account will it show up in the steam library, do you need steam to start the game?
And what if I would like to install my game on a new computer, will my product key still work even without internet access = no usage of steam. Or once I add it to a steam account I need to use steam included forever?
    Thanks :)

So SCS, the DAF is truck nr1 and this Scania truck nr2? (New ones)
And will the previous update 1.7.2 also be included with update 1.8 for non steam users?
Awesome work seeing the youtube video but personally I don't like the 'flaps' above the headlights, kinda look weird :D
Oh and what about MB? Are they still negative about giving their permission to use their name and logo, any news on that topic? :)

    1. With Steam you can access ETS2 from anywhere where steam is installed. Game is always on your account library. If you don't have internet, you still can play offline with Steam.

Saves for ETS2 stored only on one machine, so you'd need to take them with you as ETS2 doesn't support (I hope yet) saving to steam cloud, where even all your saves would be backed up.

      New Streamline feels great btw!

    1. Go here http://store.steampowered.com/about/ Download the Steam app, and register an account. Once you have the Steam app, in the bottom left corner you'll see "add games" click on that, then go to activate product" enter the serial number that came with your copy of the game. it will prompt you to install it on steam, go through the download and installation.

Once you've done that right click on Euro truck simulator 2, and click properties. At the next to end tab you'll see "betas" click that, then you'll see another option at the top on a drop down menu "select the beta you would like to opt in to". In the drop down menu select "public beta - Early Access" Close at the bottom, and your game will update automatically to 1.8 :)

@SCS Team, guys i use manual retarder (keys A n D) instead of brakes (key S) and I was thinking if it's possible to get it on the dashboard meter just like you have it in the Iveco Hi Way & new Volvo where once the retarder is activated you get to see it in on the dashboard meter.

I started ETS2 mainly to escape a vile simulation company who learnt the greedy ways of EA (and has an ex-EA man as the head!). 3. well you can't read for sure

But rest assured that it is coming asap as well.

thats why steam get it first so steam users can test it end wen it good then it come to retailers so stfu end let this great scs team do there work good !!!

  81. I just want to say I'm a very happy customer of SCS and I think they make the best simulators, especially the truck ones. Maybe in one year or so we'll get the chance to play ETS 3 with more Europe on it, like whole Italy, France, Spain, Portugal, GB, Scandinavia and some more eastern countries like Romania (my country), former Yugoslavia etc. And then put there all truck companies with all their truck models. That would really be owsome. I would pay even 40 E for that game. Best of luck SCS!
PS: well, maybe you will make it cheaper then what I said :D

  82. Great SCS, now we really got a Scania!
But we miss that low front bumper...there are 2 versions (one like you already did and one more low, most used on V8) and the Topline and Highline logos on roof as acessories (like you did on the New FH). If you can add it would be amazing!

Its so easy to activate the game on steam.Steam is currently being used by 6 million people its so easy to be one of them. And like scs has said in previous updates "The logistics of the release is actually quite simpler for us when working with Steam."Although i have a steam account for many years i didnt play my games on steam.ETS2 was the first game that i played on steam. Now the shop sells it at 13 Euros.

To the creators: please focus on the core game, after all the improvements, still lacks in many feature, and is further unrealistic. is called improper "euro" but all the Scandinavia is missing, irland, france, spain, portugal, italy, still half of hungary, and others.
Seatbelt, fog lights, more realistic interiors, a decent AI with steering and spinning wheels animations, the drivers hands and legs on the wheel/pedal.
I agree with the competition, but I propose the winner(s) taking part at least for 1 year from SCS (developing another skins and stuff, that will arrive to us via steam, but please not again 6 skins / 2 euro, put at least 8 pcs / 2 euro)
The new Scania looks good, maybe till it comes out gets all the proper retouching it needs.
