Ultimate Wheel Customization

It's not just Steam Workshop support, there is another important feature coming with the next ETS2 and ATS update. Compared to where we were only a year ago with the whole wheel being just one monolithic truck part, there's no other way of putting it: we're going to provide you with ultimate wheel customization!

We were never quite happy with the existing system, it was too limiting. Customizing wheels should be more varied, more flexible, more fun! We have split our wheels into multiple components: Tire and Disk separation was introduced recently, in addition to it we have now added customization sub-components of the disk: Hubs, Hub Covers and Nuts.

Check out this little video clip that we have made. Rather than from static screenshots, this feature is easier to appreciate in motion:

Advanced wheel customization will come simultaneously to both Euro Truck Simulator 2 and American Truck Simulator with the upcoming update. Just splitting the existing wheel models into parts that you can recombine according to your wish will already give you a vast variety of different looks. On top of it, we'll soon release a small but cool DLC with extra wheel tuning options - things like paintable metal parts or crazy nut designs. Stay tuned!

But there is more important feature - interior! We all want to customise ours trucks as well as in ETS2!

    2. OK mod the smoke in. Seriously you all don't seem to understand US law and the mindset of these big truck manufactures. Black smoke while cool is a major traffic ticket in California (like a $5000 Environmental damage fine plus they have the authority to impound your truck) if SCS puts that on a new truck bye bye licences, no more game. Kenworth and peterbuilt would be especially nit picky about this as both company's fought hard against the ruling and have had to pay out over 4 million per company in fines between 2007 and 2014 for ignoring EPA guidelines for those trucks made emissions exempt between those years. If you want a cool classic look mod it in yourself, don't sway SCS to jeopardize the whole game for a cool special effect that can be easily added later.

How about tire wear in the future and a proper truck service not just a repair for when you break truck a real service if you don't service your truck it breaks down and if you don't look after your tires you get a flat lol

  10. Cool little feature!

That being said, I think SCS really needs to focus on what the fans want. Mainly more map expansions(especially for ATS) and ability to own your own trailers, as well as some environmental effects to give the game some more "realism."

All in all, while these little trinkets are great SCS should really focus on other things which its loyal fans have been mentioning over and over and over again.

On another note, 2 months for Arizona? IMO that is too long to wait, instead of creating different wheel nuts and hubs the devs could have spent more time creating assets/maps for new states or areas of Europe to discover.

    All the best SCS!

You should be happy that we're getting an update and that SCS continues to support the game, not complaining that you didn't get what you wanted or that you're mods will be broken (frankly, I'm surprised you play ETS2 when you complain about it 24/7). If you didn't know, mods aren't officially part of the game, that's why they are MODS.

    1. I will not be happy, when these updates are just crappy, not interesting, and what is more important - nothing new when we compare it to mods. Couple months of waiting for nothing.

The last really interesting and useful thing from SCS was Cabin Accessories DLC. That was something NEW! And we want only new things, not features which were ''taken'' from existing mods. I will not support SCS in that way. And another DLC? Pffffff...I hear Dire Straits song: ''Money for Nothing''. So loyal fans - pay them your money for nothing.

    2. Honestly, I think people who dont like SCS, or are fed up with SCS, should just pack up their bags, and leave SCS games and the blog. It's no point in talking negative about SCS when really they aren't going to listen to you.

Do you really think a company like SCS will listen to their costumers?

      Delete
    3. Of course not. They do not care what people say about their updates. It's only a job for them, nothing more. They do not do things for passion like modders do, but for a reason - another wnd another paid DLC which are on the way ;) About my complain - it is my voice of disappointment and anger. Because I want ETS 2 to be more ambitious. SCS is doing whay they want, because they have no competition. I just hope EA, UBI, Activision, Rockstar will make their own trucking game. And if so - bye bye SCS Software ;)

    4. Any company which refuses to listen to their customers will sooner or later go bust.

Companies a lot bigger than SCS have self-destructed for that very reason, and no-one should leave the blog because you think so...I still think you're an SCS shill, but putting some negative comments out there to try and convince people you're just another customer.

...or a wake up call which would make them act on customers demands, and they'd have an edge over the competition if they did, because they do have a lot of experience with the truck games.

I think that experience would still count for something if they made the effort, but it's the effort which seems to be lacking.

    11. @Martin Gregory - I think it's more a case of people complaining because SCS are spending time on irrelevant little updates like this, when they just release a 'new' game which is actually a 4 year old game with a new skin, and severely reduced map and time scaling.

If they have time to waste on nonsense like this, then they ought to have made more of an effort in the almost 3 years it's taken them to re-release a 4 year old game, ripping off fans who've suported them for years.

  26. Are you going to make also possibility to paint chrome parts and other metal parts? For example gold bullbars and emblems or ones in colour of truck. Also interior customization could be more advanced. As I mentioned in past, Mercedes-Benz and other trucks miss possibility to add aluminium or wood trim on dashboard and steering wheel (especially Actros MPIII). Other thing is that interiors need more colour variantions and maybe some custom ones? If I could get a totally new truck or customize used one, then I would pick black leather interior with wood inserts. In ETS 2 and ATS luxury interiors are mostly in light colours :P I prefer dark ones

  29. Cool new feature. Probably not at the top of the fans-most-wanted list, but nice touch. Admittedly if I as a fan were to wish for anything, it would be that readjustment to map-scale before you get too far into creating new states. 1:35 is way too small. Even 1:19 was ridiculous, though Europe was understandable for that, but America needs a scale that can truly let people appreciate our geography here.

I've always been one of your most positive fans, even coming to your defense against certain crybabies that spew their negativity on literally every blog post (claiming to be angry even though they are fans themselves, since they are still here).

However, there are a lot of things about ATS that are starting to make me wonder about the future of your franchise, and I truly hope that some of them get corrected BEFORE starting a new state. It is possible to adjust the time scale of the game without re-writing the map. A mod author has already done this and uploaded the result, which people seem to enjoy, but it is one of those mods that will break every time ATS releases a new map update, so I refuse to download it. I'd rather see you guys get in touch with that author or even dissect his mod and use it to get the time and scale fixed.

ATS has a lot of potential, and it still has a lot of points that can make it an exciting game in the future. However, over the last few weeks, I've come to the self-realization that the only thing keeping me in the game is my own modding, and using ATS as a sandbox to put forth my own creativity in making models from scratch, as well as texture editing. I definitely do not want it to be this way. ATS should be keeping me busy just trying to keep up, with modding being a SUPPLEMENT to the game, not the main focus of it just to try to keep interested.

On the current scale, I completed 100% of the map in the first week, and quickly found myself looking for map mods to try to keep interested in driving instead of sitting in Blender for hours on end creating new models to keep me interested.

It pains me to write this, and I am also writing a rather large article to publish on my web site concerning ATS. I am a fan, but I am also an objective individual. I expected my article to be a positive, raving review, like most of my articles are, but as I sit here writing, I am 3 pages in and most of it is actually giving my readers reasons not to buy the game. I keep re-reading, thinking I am starting to fall into the same negative rut as a lot of these crybaby kids that keep trolling every blog you write with useless crap, but unfortunately every time I re-read the article all I see is the truth based on personal experience and the reactions of people that actually ARE your fans.

Please consider this, and count me as one of your fans pleading that you stop developing new little stuff like this, and even stop developing ANYTHING for the future. Take a moment, step back, and fix what fans are screaming for before adding new stuff. We do not need rigid trucks. We do not need nuts and covers on our tires to this detail yet. That is what the modding community is for. Issues such as the scale of ATS, and errors in the already existing base game that need to be corrected before adding more clutter to it.

It makes sense, because the more you add to the already existing base game, the harder it will be to fix what needs to be fixed without breaking some of the stuff you are stuffing into it first.

I hope you guys do not read this as one of the many angry idiots trolling these threads. Unlike kids like Akula and some of the others that spew non-constructive idiot comments thrashing about for attention, I really DO want you guys to succeed, and hope that this is taken as constructive feedback from someone who actually does support you as a company.

Thanks, SCS, and good luck with whatever you decide to do.

There's been this argument about balancing games between hardcore and casual players. This is a good example. You think everyone wants every trip to take hours. Some people do prefer to leave the computer every now and then or even play other games. I'm happy with the scale and imo it doesn't need changing.

    6. Then you'd be best with another game Cameron...the clue is supposed to be in the name "Simulator".

Okay, so neither ETS2 or ATS can ever truly be a simulator, perhaps a better title would be "Simulation Game", but at least ETS2 is on a scale that we "hardcore" fans can spend serious hours playing if we wish.

For the record, I think I took 3 days too complete the two states on the scale that they are, but there are still a very tiny percentage of ETS2 that I have never driven after 4 years and two add-ons.

    7. Just read your review, very much enjoyed it even though I'm sure I'm one of those you refer to as "trolls and all-out attention seeking crybabies" ;)

It would be nice to think SCS might take on board the issues you raise, which of course we "trolls" are so furious with, but I fear it is simply not in the nature of SCS as a company to ever listen to anything the fans say, whether in angry 'troll-like' comments, or a well written review such as your own.

I also spent many years on Flight Sim, and have flown all over the world with it, and I would love ATS (and ETS2) to be 1:1 scale...if you get tired then rest up and go back to it another day, no-one would be forcing you to make a long haul in one sitting, it would still be a game after all.

As I posted yesterday, I'd actually love to have a 1:1 scale simulator based entirely on the Alaskan haul road, the Dalton Highway, but that would take a huge leap forward in the physics to simulate the winter conditions, and SCS have never done more that add rain thus far, and it is entirely visual, with no loss of traction.

Anyway, I hope they do indeed take notice of your review...at least you could claim to be the first fan SCS did take any notice of ;)

    8. @Camron - What I love here is how folks say "You finished the game!!! OMGZ you don;t work or anything and never leave your computer! OMGZ!!!!" Erm .. I work full time, am out of the house 8-10 hours per day 6 days a week. So, please, people, do not think that just because someone managed to explore everything in a game that they have no life. And as I stated before, I'd be happy just with a 1:19 scale, but the 1:35 is a bit too small for this type of game, I think.

@Art - nope. I've read your posts. You actually manage to speak in somewhat comprehensible sentences, so I've had no issues with reading feedback you've given, both positive and negative :)

Admittedly, 1:1 would be highly unlikely for the current development of the SCS Truck Simulator franchise, but again if they just matched it to ETS2 and at least did a 1:19, I think it'd be very doable and make a nice compromise for those that want to be able to do quick jobs and also lean towards those who want to get more driving time in for longer jobs.

      Delete
    9. I forgot to add ... nowhere ... not in a single sentence I have stated, did I say that every trip needs to "take hours" for everyone. What I am speaking out for is a balanced scale to make it so that BOTH sides of the fan base get what they want. 1:19 was great in ETS2 for the sake of casual players to do short runs and for those with a bit more time on their hands to do longer runs. With the 1:35 scale, only one side wins here - the gamer who wants to just spend 15-30 minutes in the game then go out with the family. With 1:19, THAT person can still spend 30 minutes or so to do a nice run, still get to take the family out to dinner, and the other player who is disabled or has no family, etc and wants to spend more time in the game can do so as well.

      Delete
    10. @Faelandaea - Glad to read that, but 'Ways71' has requested I leave the forum today, so wouldn't agree with you :)

Yes I think you're right, 1:1 will be way in the future, perhaps with another software company, but if they matched ETS2 it would be enjoyable, however, the best compromise I think (as someone posted yesterday in reply to my comment) would be 1:10...I think that would cater for everyone's desires for more realism.

I personally had expected ATS to be on the same scale as ETS2 anyway, which is why the scale it is was so shocking, and after a few hours playing it, so infuriating...you just don't expect something to move to the States and get smaller..!

In the UK/Europe, standard trailer length is 45 feet, and short cab-over trucks in comparison to the American units. In the US it's 53 feet, with much longer tractor units, so an increase in scale to match that ought to have been in order anyway.

A few other details I've noticed are things like the trailer lengths. Every image or footage I've seen of U.S. trailers shows the length in feet near the front of the trailer, e.g. 45', 48' or 53'...small detail and one which wouldn't be hard to fix in future I'm sure.

    13. Ways71, I'm not out to hurt SCS, I've had more enjoyment from their product for my money than I have from most other things I've ever bought...but they have seriously hurt a lot of us who have supported them for a decade with this ATS release.

I think competition would be the best thing to be honest...nothing makes a company put their all into a project than the threat of another company pissing in their sandbox...so far SCS have had no rivals in this genre, which has led to them doing what they want, and disregarding the requests, wishes, and hopes of the fans...

I'd like to see someone rival them, and I'd like to see that make them passionate about their product and come out on top, but only if they did it on merit...then I'd be their number one supporter again.

      Delete
    14. It actually is kind of true that rivalry sometimes makes our favorite game developers better. Something similar is happening right now with Farming Simulator. GREAT game, but terrible physics and a few other setbacks. Now another title just got announced recently called "Cattle and Crops" that has myself and I am certain others hanging on the edge of our seats. The videos and screenshots so far are, to be frank, off the scale with amazement. As with Art, I hope Giants do not fall because of this, but instead start to compete and improve and really give the community a great show of creativity to stay on top. Perhaps something similar happening here would not be a bad thing.

    15. If only the guys who made Rig N Roll would come back and make a whole new game with the whole USA. Rig N Roll had a MUCH more accurate/better map than ATS in general. If those guys were to come out with a better/bigger game like ATS, it would be a great competition.

      Delete
    16. I bought Rig N Roll a few years ago, but could never get it to work with my steering wheel...thought a lot of it looked good, very American looking roads...

I've just downloaded the Coast to Coast mod, and taken a drive through it all...now that drive is what I'd like to have just through one state, then the game would be brilliant.

      Delete
    17. Do you mean you'd like to have a drive like that time wise or scenery wise? 2-3 hours through one state would be outstandly long. And SCS trying to make all of the states like that would take years to a decade. I dont know..

      Delete
    18. Yes, I think it would be great if the scale was such, that to drive from San Diego to Hornbrook was the same as coast to coast on the mod..

Just imagine how each state would be if thuey were all on that scale, I'd love it.

      Delete
    19. The scale of ATS being like taht would be awesome, but the time and money would be outragous! It would take a DECADE or more to make the entire USA in that scale. Lets not forget SCS is also working on a complete rebuild of ETS 2. SCS would have to hire 100+ workers in order to do this. Making such a scale would be awesome, but think of the company's side of making such a thing. And, I have driven from San Diego to Hornbrook on ATS's base map and it is NOTHING compared to Mantrid's coast to coast. I have driven the Coast To coast and it's 2-3 hours long. Even-though, a drive similar to San Diego to Hornbrok would be a great scale for every state. The scale of each state should be tolerable for both the costumers and the company.

    20. Working om a complete rebuild of ETS2.?

I wonder what decade that'll come out.?

Given the disappointment of ATS, I wouldn't be holding my breath for it, and then I guess the good older model trucks will be gone, bad news for those who don't like the new ones as much.

  30. Oh for goodness sake!!! Come on SCS,...Steam Workshop and now Wheel Customisation. How about some news on what you're going to do about the small map scale and time compression in ATS. The most biggest gripe and most talked about post on your official SCS forum from your fans/customers yet you still hide and don't say anything to us about it. You said that for ATS to succeed will depend on the customers wallet. Well I've already purchased ATS but my wallet will not be opening for that game anymore until I hear and see something very positive. Do not take your customers for granted! Thanks.

  42. Meh... Better that you guys are concentrating more on the Truck-physics and in-gameplay/map. I'm not watching my wheel-nuts when driving. Which I'm doing 99% of the time. Would be cool if the US were done before everything is obsolete. If you atleast can deliver a minimum of 5 states/year. But even that would mean just short of a 10 years span, before everything is done. Welp... than I'm old and so is this game. So maybe it's time to up the tempo - and focus on the essentials?

    Great job scs software.

  49. The problem is here. SCS never read or even hear the FANS. They adding a features that we have as mod already for YEARS.
Why SCS is adding this feature, because we already have some special rim and wheels by 50KEDA and high resolution quality. And they are completely FREE.
But look at their video. It look so poor. It DOES looks so amateurish.
I see many people use the word "hater" to people who have different look at the current situation.
Really, if I were on the PLACE from SCS, things will be really different.
People begging for double trailers almost six years? I'll do right now, and sell them as DLC, but for extra price.
People beg for better physic? I'll do it, not so difficult. Atleast people will say to me "thanks you for this update".
You did already record a truck sounds, but neither of them are in game. Maybe they are but i couldnt feel them. Trucks is not anymore truck, but electric motor. No proper diesel power
I never said a word about truck license because myself know how tough is that, to obtain a license.
I really cannot understand what SCS doing all these time.
I know SCS games since 2002-2003, and know how really is game grow up.
They have acquired a lot of expirience through past.
I totally agree wat Akula said
"SCS is already AA producter, and have a good workforce people"
But go ahead call me whatever you want, "hater" or idiot it wont change anything :D
I just got enough of seeing no progress since ETS 1, and they releasing crappy (DLC's) every month or two
Whenever i see a new post there must be the word "DLC"
I do not hate SCS, i hate their disgusting politic

SCS starting getting lazy and greedy, so this is coming to next:
      - Instead SCS do the trucks, maps, sounds, skins, this work should be lend some time to modders right?
Probably, modders made the ETS/ATS so superior great.
No mods - game will sunk in next Monday.
Slowly I'm starting to think, SCS abuse the modders for their own goals

What is the use of this?? why don't you read the scs's fans and give them some usable stuff like "seasons" "rigids" and most important as a SIMULATOR GAME the chance of seing real damage on trucks and different variables, engine, wheels, trailer problems to solve? that will add some life to this game, not just some nuts almost impossible to see... My opinion.

  60. Not worth 20$ right now. Maybe you needed the money to do more'...? At first ATS seemed awesome but now its getting old. There is alot of empty features that are simple to fix. Maybe they are waiting to put more states.. idk. Weight scales are useless. Why not have an open and closed sign? Weigh your truck would be cool... Be cool to use the cb radio and ask what the weather in your area is like in old 18wos. Also I would like to see a a feature where you have to actually find your trailer number. The paperwork should pop up on your screen and tell you info and load weight/warnings. Hope scs does beta on let us test states. I don't want to wait 3 years for half of the USA. 10-4

    ReplyDelete

    1. well said. With the release schedule of Arizona extrapolated to the entire US it's going to take them 25 years to complete the country...
And if they keep diverting resources to pretty much useless things like this that schedule is going to slip even further.

Maybe someone in Prague looked at the way the government runs IT projects and thought it a great way to run a business?

This is useless feature for most of us, unless we drive with 7 type came (camera on the wheel). Instead do simulator features like opening windows cab as in OMSI, you giving out this bullshit.
Tell me what is usefull from this?

Does it gives to feel the very-very sensitive truck handling?

  71. Oh great, another feature for free wich comes with a DLC for more costumization if wanted.. If you still improve wheels, can you make LOW DECK TYRES ?

WE ALSO NEED MORE TUNING FOR TRUCK, how about that ?

And most of all, interior DLC should have vignette boxes, you know, paying taxes at toll gates and dont stop always at barriers (like TELEPASS)

    ReplyDelete
  72. I don't understand your politics at all. You want to create better access to mods and with the other hand you destroyed some of them by DLCs like this. There should be made changes, which moders can't do or do it well like e.g. rigid trucks and tandems. Why are you making some useless features? It's a waste of time, really. The game won't be better for that. Who cares the wheel nuts? If you care about players, than make changes what we want, not what are easy to make for you.

    1. I don't think so.That means something you don't like which might be someone else dream of.

      Delete
    2. Maybe you are right. In my opinion it is better if SCS leave the cosmetic stuff to the modders. They can do miracles with the appearance of the trucks. Modders can't do e.g. tandem trucks with two bending points of the trailer. This must be done by SCS. In this particular case the mods of the wheel was created a long time a go, so it's a waste of time to do it again.

      Delete
  73. You made a good game.
But still there are many wishes for gameplay.
I want to be not only the owner of the truck but also a trailer. I want to conclude a contract for the delivery of a certain type of cargo. For example carry 300 tons of sand from the quarry on a construction site. I buy dump trailer - and make a contract. And give us the option to choose load trailer from 10 to 50 tons -and payment per tonne of cargo carried. Еhen there will be sense to buy a powerful truck 8\4 and the large trailer. Bought Trailers must also stored in garages. if you need another trailer - go to the garage and take the appropriate type of trailer.
    And so on
    Make the game more realistic.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. You can't load 50 tons of any freight.

US weight limits for roads and bridges is 80,000lb gross, or 40 tons, so by the time you take the weight of your truck and trailer, fully fuelled, you can carry the remainder in cargo, so your load might be 25 tons.

      Delete
    2. Yes I know.
But it is a reason - the police caught you - lost a lot of money
if not - you earned more for freight)))
1 m3 of sand - can weigh from 1.5 to 2 tons so full 30m2 dump trailer can weigh 40 to 60 tons + trailer and track)))so that's why they are go half-empty...
