The first news about design

Greetings,

Starting of with tad of unfortunate news right away: we had to postpone the Achievements update of Euro Truck Simulator 2 to get extra two weeks for additional polish. Sorry about that little delay, it's almost there and still coming, just a bit later this September.

Now the good stuff

During feature development, lots of time is spent discussing the designs and how the gameplay is revolving around particular feature and how to evolve it further. However we realized we seldom shared such kind of behind the scenes info with you...

One of the features that has been under discussion for a long time is another type of DLC - Rigid Trucks.

Having rigids in the game brings quite a bit of challenges for us - the developers, as we would have to touch an established gameplay formula, and for you - the drivers, as backing these beasts is far from easy!

Naturally we need to take care of seamless in-game integration, with physics, economy, loading / unloading places infrastructure... There is both good and bad there, this challenge may persuade us to reconsider the concept of trailer ownership. But you know us, the more ambitious we are in altering the gameplay, the more time we typically take to make this happen. We will push to arrive to a broad concept of trailer ownership, though here we will start with one particular case - a swap body trailer on which you'll be loading the containers, cisterns and other loads suitable for rigid truck transportation.

For a driver, this is going to be a whole new challenge, especially when it comes to loading and unloading cargo. So in case you thought your parking skill is near perfection with ETS2, think again! :) Rigids with attached swap body trailer will test your maneuvering skills again. Of course, if you are not a hardcore player or just prefer just to chill out and ride, auto-parking feature is still at your disposal.

  2. when will be released new DAF XF and approximate release date Scandinavia add-on? before the last DLC "Going East", you long before the show all map DLC. Now you do not show, the map is not ready yet?

  3. It does look good, however i would give priority to finishing up Europe.

You know Europe? That continent the game was supposed to be about but where you ended up missing lots of countries and making us pay to get what we were supposed to have already?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Maybe , just maybe they gave us the game the way it is because of the impatient ones who couldn't wait for them to finish all countries in Europe.

    2. They seem quite competent to me, so i am sure they didn't do it because of the pressure of some random fanboy.

No, it's just more profitable for videogames to release DLCs now. Or to make people pay for early access.

    3. dude stop moaning and download trucksim map

      Delete
    4. Trucksim map doesn't have the same quality standards the official map would have. And it's not compatible with the multiplayer mod either.

so "dude", you keep playing that, i'll wait for what they promised instead

      Delete
    5. So wait then and stop complaining. The title is "Euro" - now with ATS, do you expect "American" meaning North- Middle- and South america? Or just North? Or just USA?
You have the freedom to choose to purchase something or not.
Noone forces you, "fanboy". You weren't "supposed to" have anything. ETS 1 didn't have those countries either.

  4. Nice work SCS and nice to see you evolve the game and improve it, I know it takes some time and I'm quite impatient but your works deserve it. Just don't hear to all the haters and fanboys and keep doing as u do!!!!

PD; I would pay gladly for a Coop mode or something to invite friends and ride convoys not in the MP mod there is out there (awesome mod and lot fun), it's keeping me playing after max levelling in SP.

    Gracias,

  5. I would like to have that. Because at the moment it's too easy to backup a trailer driving with it.

    ReplyDelete
  6. How about giving us rigid trucks without the need to attach a trailer and put the load in the back of the truck like in real life? I also love the idea of owning my own trailer.

  11. Hi SCS That will be a great addison to the game, I have used one of the Tandem mod available for the game and it is a very different experience because you have to deal with a much longer truck and it can get quite difficult though the back road, I hope we do see this type truck in the upcoming game and for people who just like driving the normal semis unloading and loading the truck would be nice to see

  12. Just had a thought... is this going to be implemented into American truck Simulator as well?

  14. Doubles (A- and B- doubles with artic trailers) are almost unknown in Europe. They're not even universal in places like the US and Canada.

What is common in Europe is the rigid with and without trailer - so developing that is a great idea. I would like to see 2 options on loads: both with and without trailer - but the loads with trailers would be more challenging.

    1. Single trailer artics (current ets2 truck) are the most popular in Europe in terms of short-long haul transport

    1. I've been thinking about it also. It would be a logical iteration after ATS. Hauling road trains with lots of trailers across australian outback would be so awesome.
Canadian winter roads also sound sweet. Or it may be an Alaska DLC for ATS.

    2. Australian Truck Simulator and Brazilian Truck Simulator :) I like it

  28. Really nice feature to give us some work, but I would also love to see the normal rigids (or tandem) which don't separate cargo from the vehicle. This means you have the cab with the cargo area fixed to it (not separable), and also a smaller trailer to attach to the main truck. So you simply back the trailer, to a gate, and the main truck to the other gate. The type of cargoes you show on this post are not so common.

    Example:
    http://www.transport-biro.si/SLIKE/DSC01321.JPG

Normal trailers for tandems don't require legs. Actually, just as a side note, in ETS2 the name used is wrong, as we only have semitrailers, not trailers. The semi shares the weight with the tractor, and needs a support point, or rest point. While attatched it's the 5th wheel, and unattached it's the legs. While driving, both the cab and the semi wheels support all the weight. On the other hand, a trailer is simply "dragged" or hauled, meaning the cab doesn't support any weight, and usually it just rests on it's own wheels when unattached, not needing an extra support. That's the main difference between semitrailer and trailer.

  37. A few weeks back i saw M4WL, a developer for the multiplayer mod, who succesfully had made it possible to drive with a 25m rig. 1 truck and 2 normal box-trailers. He showed driving around and backing up, and the physics, looked awesome. Maybe scs, should try and talk a bit with him? :S

I dont mind your DLC's because its always good prices so it doesnt hurt so much, I like the Sims games, and Sims 4 just came out but I know they will want 40 - 50 euro's for each DLC and that puts me off, I cant afford that most of the time.

And ofc I want to support you guys as much as I possibly can since you do so much for us fans of your wonderful simulator! :)

With that and trailer ownership, I can only suppose that you will make us be able to have our own trailers (long ones) loaded and unloaded same way (with flat bed or container trailers should be great visually) so I can only sai THANKS.

    ReplyDelete
  57. I am always parking trailer by myself without any exception. I like that rigid gameplay feature but this and normal parking should give more bonuses. Maybe extra money or maybe autopark should take away 500 euro as penalty or 500 as reward for paring on our own.

Also parking spot should require more precision!
If you park poorly game accepts that and if you would park that poorly in real life then there would be problems and warehouse workers would laugh at you. I work in warehouse so I saw many trailer parking and this should be as extra mini game not only spot that allow poor parking ! :/

And one little thing: Please make it a DLC which you will have to pay for.
You deserve it as the game studio so much.
When I buy your DLCs it's only partly for the content, but more just to keep you as far away as possible from running out of money ;)

One little last thing: It would be AWESOME if you could actually BUY your own trailers and keep them, instead of getting a new one every single time.

    ReplyDelete
  70. Wow!!! Great, great!!! But, please, consider spending more time on this Dlc and add also rigid body and full trailer, the one that has the double articulated point. That would be the real challenge!!! Or, at least, add a second point of articulation in the engine (and let modders have fun :D ) Seriously, after two years you should consider that many want to see it active in the game, or better, drive a rigid+full trailer in a Dlc.

    ReplyDelete
  71. Trailer ownership adding to truck ownership adds more to the game. Once a player gets money and adding garages and trucks, it adds a near endless dimension by adding new trailers to the fleet. Add larger garages, so that we can move our trailers around the map adds more playability. Actually owning and further growing your "company" adds much more than simply buying trucks and drivers.

    ReplyDelete
  72. FINALLY !!! Good job SCS !

  76. One thing I'd like to add support for is that concept of trailer ownership. My own trailer with my fleet skin, pull in, back up to the dock, and grab my load. Do you remember the timer for resting or for abandoning a load? Have such a timer as you wait for the trailer to be loaded, then proceed on your way. I'd happily support this.

I painted my own fleet - but the issue is while i love having my own company, the way the game works my own trailers literally crowd out even the jazzy packs. I pull into a warehouse and all I see are my own trailers and I am lucky to see other trailers waiting for pickup. With the concept of trailer ownership, I can literally delete this fleet, just keep my trailer with my colors, and enjoy the diversity of other trailers and companies from real world brands all around me :)

    1. OH! And one more thing - ownership of multiple trailers. It CAN work. The expensive garage has . . . what? 5 or 6 bays? And I did find a mod that enabled all the doors to let us pull into the bay of our choice. Make it so that if we want to switch trailers, we back one trailer into a bay, and then hook up to our desired trailer in another bay. So a limit of like 5 trailers we can own. It gives us variety without the issue I mentioned in my previous post.

SCS, if you read this, I think this would be an awesome feature for both ETS2 and ATS.

      And overpriced?
      Wow. SCS doesn't overprice anything.
Their prices are totally cheap and fine.

They actually use the money to keep the games YOU like to play alive, and to do new.
YOU are crying for more licenses, and they need money for that.

  83. I have seen a lot of people complaining about cost and wait etc. I bought ETS2 perhaps less than a year ago. Ever since, there was a constant flow of "FREE" updates improving the Game. Granted, there was a few DLC's that did cost between $1.99 or up to $14.00. Try some other developers, for example Train Simulator. By the time you have all the Trainsim DLC's and more, you may have spend close to $3000.00. But you don't need them either, if you are satisfied with 200km of default track. There are more that go that route too. However, SCS offers the DLC's as enhancements (mostly cosmetic) and you really don't need them to play, since there is quite a bit of Autobahn to cover.

On the subject of the trailer design: I don't think that it would be that much different to drive the above design, since it is a tandem trailer that acts the same way as ein "Auflieger (Sattel Anhaenger)". The real challenge would be a Tractor Trailer config with 2 Axle Tractor and 3 Axle trailer, I mean a challenge for both, driver and developer.
    Just my humble opinion!

    ReplyDelete
  84. sounds awesome SCS. How about dog trailers (2 pivot point single trailer) for the rigid truck to tow as well?

    ReplyDelete
  85. Apesar da novidade ! Acho que precisamos de mais estradas! Mais tipos diferentes de cargas! O Mapa original esta pequeno!

    ReplyDelete
  86. so is that means we will able to drive TANDEM trucks?

    ReplyDelete
  87. SCS did not quite understand what you mean by this post, we let players come with an empty cart and we will have to carry it, or you will put so desired double semi-trailers in the game?

    ReplyDelete
  88. SCS i love Euro Truck simulator 2 and the idea of rigid rigs would be a great idea in my book to expand the game

    ReplyDelete
  89. For A minute I thought we were having double trailers

    ReplyDelete
  90. In my opinion SCS wants to start with something, so at the beginning they will make simple trailer with one banding point. They have also create infrastructure for new kind of trucks – new way of load and unload. It is very complicated issue. I think it is idea for new game… but also it can be done in ETS2 but it can have some restrictions or the game must be heavily modified. Later on they can make trailers with two banding points and even truck with build in box (trailer). Think about this – in that case the idea of the game should be different, which is now. The idea with containers is very good for ETS2 – it is good start for the future. The game is evolve because SCS hardly makes good job for us. Two banding points is big challenge, I can’t even imagine how can it be done. I think this algorithm must be made by computer, not human. SCS team I admire your persistence. Respect.

  91. First I like to thank all the staff on the design of this thing most wonderful.
Secondly, I would like to share with you something important I would like to be taken into serious by you It is the effect of rain on the trucks and also the physics of water on the calf and the sound of the water when the collision with the truck and for volatilization of water on both sides of the truck and cars surrounding.
For the windshield wipers of natural spaces left at stop signs until it rains some dry glass.
There is something else which is the presence of clay around the wheels and its impact.
That's what caught my eye for euros Semelator Trac is a game more than excellent and I hope to be in first place always

  96. why does this have to be a DLC, can't it just be built into one of the updates

    ReplyDelete
  97. No beacuse the game is 2 years old and we have to pay SCS to keep the game and SCS alive!

  102. Brilliant idea. I've been waiting for something like this for a long time. I feel that the map is already pretty big as it is; it's gameplay innovations that are required.

  103. this will be an awesome addon to ets2 and hope you guys are doing the same thing for ATS it wouldn't be American if you didn't include them and would work great on ATS becouse of the wide open roads.

    1. Hey it's more reality-based than what you think I love that they come with a new DAF XF and Mercedes and Tandem load it is my opinion, but I also think they should fix the wipers so you can increase the speed of the verdict. I bothers me that the update 1.11.1 to passenger cars could Veja but now they drive after all and even on us and they do not even blink when they should change lanes.

  111. In Mexico we ride double trailers all the time. We call it "full" and it takes truck driving to a different level in terms of skills and awareness. The rig is made of two 40 feet trailers plus dolly. SCS please consider Mexico in your ATS development.
Double trailer driving will bring the game to the very TOP in the truck and driving simulation software. I consider ETS2 a serious game. SCS congrats for your work.

  112. What I would like to see is full curtain siders and the like permanently fixed to the trailer/rigid, and when you press the load button, it transfers to a small cutscene of a forklift placing a pallet onto the truck, and the curtains are open, with reefers the cutscene has the forklift boarding the truck from the warehouse. That is far more appealing for my immersion than loading containers

    1. it is a good idea too.
Another change that should be done: when we transport a cargo, we have a delivery time, for example : between 11.00 and 16.00. We should never deliver the cargo before 11.00, if we get there earlier, as usual, we should have to wait to those 11.00 to unload, it would be more realistic too.

  113. will this create the possability of road trains

  114. No 24 or 25,25 meters like we have in sweden?
Truck, dolly, trailer that would be nice.
Almost a most have in a scandenivan map pack. And that is a fun thing to learn 2 reaverse with. Over and out.
