It's all about the Tyres/Tires

Today we would like to introduce one of the features that you can expect with the upcoming Euro Truck Simulator 2 update 1.22 - Tyre grades. We have already mentioned that we are looking into it in one of our earlier blogs. We are happy that it finally came to its fruition.

Inspired by actual European regulations, we tried to adapt reality to fit our game. All tyres are now graded based on three parameters: fuel efficiency, wet grip, and noise levels. The game takes tyre properties into account, so real life tyre grades correspond with in-game behaviour. Of course by long wear or damage, tyre quality may degrade.

We will now also support different tyre sizes. In the original game, we referred to a tyre (back then actually the whole wheel) just by its name. We are now enriching the simulation to include support for alternate tyre sizes, so the size is added to the naming convention.

While revisiting the tyres, we thought that it would be cool to add support for what we see in the tuning and modding community - tyre coloring. Stock tyres just sport the standard rubber look of course, but for additional tuning effect, the colour of designated parts of a tyre (like the manufacturer names or logos) can be altered. The in-game support is quite comfortable, allowing to choose the particular colour with a comfortable colour picker widget.

We are about to enter internal testing phase of this feature. As usual, before the final release, you can expect a round of Steam open betas - for those of you ready to help us out with community QA, or just cannot wait but experience any new features as soon as possible.

Oh, there is also a new original manufacturer-branded DLC coming, which will greatly expand your tyre choice ;).

    4. Those original licences of tires are not free for scs, so they have spent loads of money for free dlc? :D if you want real tires then "pay for licences." Or try to beg companies to give them those licences free

    5. Oh, come one. This kind of DLC costs usually $5/10. Don't be cheap. If you don't want to buy it no problem, but don't complain.

    6. You know, "DLC" means "Downloadable Content" there is no "Give me Money" in "Downloadable Content"... it only means you can Download it

    7. They never said paid DLC (although I guess it will be some payed feature ;P)

    8. They use "Update" for free stuff and "DLC" for paying stuff.

For other haters , i was totally serious for once. Moreover , "ololz itz not free" No , it makes ad for the tyre producers. Therefore it should be free to use by a bilateral agreement. Not my fault if SCS cannot valorize and sell their products but just buy and make us pay afterwards for their lack of buisness skills.

Considering the fact that the gayme cost 20€ in regular time , and around 5€ in sale , it's 1/4 of the total price. Somehow expensive for decals on tyres.

Are you blind from childhood or is that blindness just recent?

They are making game upgrades with patches. Rarely a company is giving upgrades with patches instead only fixing bugs and here we have patch with upgrade for the game so stop whining because you act like very blind person.

    13. What do you expect? ETS2 was released in 2012 and still gets so many updates. You can´t support a game over such a long time without taking extra money. And, for me, i WANT to spend extra money on SCS so hopefully ETS2 and ATS getting bigger and better!

    14. Ferrari is not a cheap license, but NFS pay for expose the logo on the game, Lamborghini, Audi and many others, why Michelin should not grab a part of the money? This doesn't make any sense. If you could sell something, why give it? Exposing a logo it's something more complicated the just show it, it's about show a great image, otherwise makes a good thing, bad.

SCS keeps the good work, this game has too much updates for free, it's a great job! ETS2 it's much better!

    9. @TIm Vorbau "Oh, there is also a new original manufacturer-branded DLC coming". Not saying you're wrong, that it's going to be free (or not), but I think the "also' means it's not part of the update.

      Delete
    10. thats not what i was saying. this guy was saying that hes dissapointed that this is the ONLY main feature in this update. SCS surely is aware, if they add just these tire thingies, a big part of the community would be very dissapointed too. So it says :"Today we would like to introduce ---> ONE <--- of the features that you can expect with the upcoming Euro Truck Simulator 2 update 1.22"

      Delete
    11. Dear Tim Vorbau, instead of insulting me, you should read more carefully...Do you know what is the meaning of word ''Main''? I didn't say those tyre properties are the only feature, but I did say, that if SCS is posting words about it, it must be their most important feature of the patch. Otherwise they would not mention it on their blog. SCS always do that.

    12. Inferial , see how many haters and fanboys there is , that insult you when you make a constructive remark ?

    13. @inferial then you should probably rethink the way you express yourself. the way you wrote the comments let us assume that you think that this is the only big feature added to the game in this update.

      @Akula contructive remark? sure dude

    14. Then dont spend your money on that LOL Your opinion in this case is totally useless. I don't need this DLC so I will not buy it. Maybe next DLC will interest me but I dont see any point in whining that one DLC is useless for me. U see I am spart you are not :D I bought only those which I wanted and I knew that I will use a lot. Like going east DLC!
      AGAIN don't buy! Don't whine!

    15. I am not talking right now about that DLC, but about that tyre properties...I think you will see and feel the difference while driving? Hell yeah, one tyre will sound louder than the other...What a change! It completely rebuilds the game! I am guessing, this patch is just an update for definitions, so new DLC would be compatible with the rest of the game. Just like SCS did with patch 1.21 which was nothing more than an update for DLC Cabin Accessories.

    16. stop whining already. if you dont like then gtfo

  5. Add to trucks a option to add one axle or 2 more. It would be awesome to have 4 or 5 axles in one truck tracror, then the money of a dlc would be worth every penny

  6. Interestingly we will continue to repair the tyre at the service station? Or they will be replaced and charged separately, as should the fact be, according to logic and common sense?

    ReplyDelete
  7. Do not expect separate repair, you will go to service station, and fix them as usual...So boring.
For the first time I am against ideas of SCS. Because this tyre properties are really not worth to be main feature of patch. And definitely (in my opinion) not worth the wait for the patch. Let us hope, some other features of upcoming 1.22 patch will be better and more interesting than this tyre properties.

    ReplyDelete

    1. I would not agree. Various properties of tyres is a great idea. However long overdue the need to purchase new tyres instead of worn out. Besides, it's high time for a single game to add the cost of repair time.

    2. Now, i do think this is a neat addition to the game, but i agree with your point of rather putting more work into stuff like new types of trailers (scania p-series for example??!) and so on.

      Delete
    3. @MsHeavyAlex

You are right. It is true that this game lacks in detail and features, even now after so many updates and dlc's released so any addition is welcomed, but then again adding all this content on a old engine with lots of flaws which are not being addressed its not going to prolong the life of ETS2. Guess SCS already knows that and are trying to milk as much as possible from ETS2 and using it as a testing platform for ATS. And that to isnt that bad, just as long ATS will come out as a brand new game and not as a polished version of ETS2 with some mods...

    Real Braking Usage / Wear
Coming down a steep hill using only foot brake should increase damage but using retarder should provide longer life for brakes

    ReplyDelete

    1. Actually breaking with the retarder wears only the wheels on the driving axle(s) while breaking with the foot brake wears a little bit on all the wheels, but ofcourse when using the foot brake you also get wear on the brakes themselves

      Delete
    3. Lol, how can you call the current model accurate?

And why would you need licensing to create a generic rim model (I'm not talking about the actual wheel hub that has logos on it) ?

      Just compare the two:

      http://forum.scssoft.com/viewtopic.php?f=34&t=183178&sid=993321574a1f11049276b8a91aa36c8e

Looks much more realistic and they should be focusing on the rims first imo.

    4. You need to have in mind that this game must be good to run on a very low-end PC so they can´t have that high poly models for the wheels and tires. Hopefully SCS will change this focus and only adapt to medium to high-end PCs so they will use this type of wheels

  17. Well I for one appreciate this feature! Lets not forget that SCS is only a SMALL software company, with a LOT of work to do! They are only human just like everyone else who might make mistakes from time to time, but they learn from them and thats how ETS2 has come a very long way since ETS1!

It has to be remembered that this company doesn’t have the same money or resources that are available to the likes of Microsoft, EA, Feral Interactive etc!

While this update might not seem all that exciting, it IS an important step in the right direction, and if they are to get wider recognition and credibility from the Trucking Industry, these are things that any self-respecting software company has to do!

While I might long and wish for improvements of various sorts to the game as a player of this myself on a regular basis, I see that SCS really are committed to this title for the long-term, otherwise it wouldn’t have come as far as it has done already!

    Nice work SCS!

As a paying customer i do not mind buying this DLC's but i do mind getting less and less content for the money i am paying.

P.S. Features that add to the game playability and simulation, should always come out as a free update so anyone that payed for the original game could enjoy them.
As far as it goes for map expansions, paint jobs, and all other kind of gimmicks to personalize your truck can come as part of a DLC, just as long as they hold some content worth our money...

Funny you didn't charge us for the Mercedes brand when you finally got license, so don't charge us for getting a license for Michelin either.
Abort your DLC idea, once you have something more reasonable then come grab for my wallet.

The Cabin DLC was "slim" so to speak, when you look at the sort of accessories modders had already given the community for free. Maybe you should spend some time around actual working trucks, and not showroom ones, and see what drivers do with their cabins, look at what is placed in the little compartments. You have cup holders in the cab but you can't figure out how to place cans or cups in them as part of the DLC, and leave that to modders again. The modders deserve my money, as I see it, more than you right now.

    1. I must agree with you about that the DLCs are getting bored but that is the point of the DLCs, they are OPTIONAL. You don´t have to buy them, also about the cupholders, they are mostly not used for mugs/cups but they are used for dogs or some other things which is kinda weird I must say.

From what we have been seeing, seems exactly that. DLC's being pushed with new features as a testing platform for ATS.
I do not mind buying this kind of DLC's, but i do expect them to hold more content.
As far as i could read into this article, seems that the tyre DLC will hold only one brand ?

  40. "All tyres are now graded based on three parameters: fuel efficiency, wet grip, and noise levels. The game takes tyre properties into account, so real life tyre grades correspond with in-game behaviour"

I don't believe these new parameters for different tires having an effect on "wet grip" levels will be noticeable, as to this date wet road surfaces in this game have never created enough noticeable reduction in tire grip to make me have to drive any differently in the rain.

This is of course also due to other limitations in wet road surfaces in-game in that water is only ever a thin layer on the road, that sees a constant reduced grip level (however small) that is predictable and never "pools" to thicker levels that would actually cause aquaplaning and varied grip levels on different parts of the road.

I believe your overall physics need to be made more realistic and in-depth before such things as tires with varying wet-grip levels would be anything more than a gimmick to the serious simulation players, however I also understand that such players are in the minority and may never be catered to.

    ReplyDelete
  41. Gawd, I'm so happy I paid for the game. Each update makes the game more and more realistic, like a simulator should be. It was well worth the monies I spent. Keep making more DLC's and I'll be more than happy to buy them.

  48. If you think that SCS is paying for the licences you are wrong. The opposite is true, so the manufacturer of the tires paid for it and that means that this tires must be unbreakable and of course each of it are the best. So why we need it? I will be boring if I again write about what we expect in updates. But ok, if it's free update, if it will be paid DLC it's not for me.

  49. I'm thinkin this patch will be a positive one despite all the freeloaders whining about the DLC.. it's nice to see that the functionality for better tire simulation will be incorporated into the game, but as a couple have mentioned, you also need to fix the environmental system to incorporate slick surfaces as well.. the possibility of hydroplaning and entering a jack-knife condition is very real, even on only mildly wet surfaces, especially when empty, bobtailed, or under a light load (I have done it IRL... a bit of power in a turn at the wrong time, and suddenly you're lookin the wrong way parying the cab doesn't become on with the side of the trailer!)... glad I jumped back into your products, you've come a long way since I tossed away American Long Haul in disgust!! keep it up!

  50. I think it unnecessary tire types. More meaningful would be a tandem, double trailer bogies!

  51. Mostly yes.. Its small difference between the SCS and this modded.

  53. You do nice work SCS, but for this i wouldn't agree.. There's so much free mods that will do so much better works instead of 2-3 types of bad tires.. Take look at this.. http://forum.scssoft.com/viewtopic.php?f=34&t=183178&sid=993321574a1f11049276b8a91aa36c8e

So i probably say that you stole the mod, so you can convert them as DLC, and sell us..

    1. As i said mate, from what i could make, seems that the "tyre grades" feature will be part of the free update and only the licensed manufacturer will be as DLC...

    i will buy it...

  55. Also i want see more realism of the game like better braking system instead of current, funny to see how 26 tons truck stopping in 5 seconds.. Also steering.. Much arcade.. Easier to move 26-30 ton truck like a car,

    1. If your truck is stopping in 5 seconds, your brake intensity slider is obviously too high... Then again, go watch a video on Volvo or Scania's braking systems, they stop pretty damn quick. Also to note, a truck with a loaded trailer CAN stop quicker than a truck with an empty trailer, a loaded trailer has more weight on the wheels which equals more traction and better braking whereas an empty trailer has less weight on the wheels and less traction. Also, there is the trailer stability slider, you should use it, although there is a bug atm with it (just re-adjust it when you start playing and it will work properly).

    3. @macadonians agree should be feel like a truck

    4. My braking slider is almost to left slide... Ok, but we still need better turning or steering, whatever people call it.. I don't feel like turning truck, feel lots like a van

    5. I agree with you here. I guess what we would need is all round better physics, the truck and trailer feels to rigid...

  56. Great, ETS 2 is great game but many details are bad, I think when do ETS 3 is better choice but in game must be all uprages and all details must be repaired (engine rpm, truck cabin, more functions in game, more countries, bigger cities... )... and game without steam :D.... maybe only my dream, but I like ETS 2, great game but all can be better .. .sorry for bad eng ://

    1. "ETS3" ??? Its been 4 years since the release of ETS2. As we are still waiting for ATS, my guess is that a new trucking game from SCS will be out in 2020, unless of course some other company decides to take on making a trucking simulator...
We can only hope that ATS will come out with a lot of new features and better engine that ETS2 lacks in...

    2. Not even ATS will be released until 2020...

  57. You need to add tyre blow outs too!

  58. ok, new update sounds great but I will think about more small roads on map then everybody will have more options to drive :D

Surprised at all the hate I'm reading here on this blog. SCS is a great software company.

  65. That's real cool! Looking forward to the Michelin DLC. Will that bring some addons to the interior accessories DLC too? If so, that would be awesome! And, the sitting Michelin Man accessories would be awesome to install around the truck! Looking forward to the DLC, will buy it the hour it comes out!

    Best Wishes!

  66. I understand that you need to buy licenses, but the people next DLC? Well, no eggs, DLC Cabin Accessories which is rocking a dog and nothing more? Instead of doing the tire you would do some DLC readers to toll it has more than a white stripe on the tire ..

    ReplyDelete
  67. would be cool if the tyres have physics,

so the tyres will be compressed if load is on

the heavier the trailer/load is the more compressed the tyres are

  68. Glad to hear that new content is being added to ETS2. Hopefully after this maybe SCS will take a look at the weather and bring some improvements in that sector, as the rain effect is hilarious to say the least and who knows maybe introduce seasons in the game, rather then having eternal summer... But then again i guess this kind of improvements would be impossible to monetize as DLC's so i dont think we will see anything like that, any time soon...

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. They work right now at DX11 support for ATS (and later MAYBE for ETS2).
But the seasons would not be possible, as they have said from the beginning. They need to rewrite the whole code.
Put all your hopes in the next GAME from RTA Team, with much better graphics. SCS lives somewhere in the past.

    2. I doubt many people will keep playing ETS2 after the release of ATS or anytime soon after they release the first patches for it, if it turns out to be very buggy or something...
My self, im not a big fan of american trucks, but the idea of driving on a new map with new trucks better environment and maybe a lot of new features, i think will make me forget about ETS2 very fast.
As of that i think they are just using ETS2 as testing platform and maybe some extra income from dlc's, all for ATS development. Slowly after that they will forget all about ETS2.

      Delete
    3. You may be right, but bear in mind please, that there are seperate teams working on each project. SCS Software mentioned a long time ago that ATS and ETS2 are going to be ,,sister games,, which mean that both games will have updates and as a matter of fact benefit from each other.

      Delete
    4. Yes i know all about that. The thing is, SCS tends to say a lot of things that never materialize...
Dont get me wrong, i would love if they continue working on ETS2 and improve it constantly, after putting so many hours in to it and buying all this dlc's... All i am saying is that probabily a lot of ETS2 players(including my self) will switch to ATS and thus not many people will be left playing ETS2, making it redundant to continue work on it. Though, i have no idea what role WOT will play in the future and how ATS and ETS2 will integrate with it. Who knows, maybe they will turn ETS2 in a MMO game, playable through WOT, changing everything...

  69. And would be nice if you could add weather condition SCS.. I hate the raining system.. I have a big drop fps, also almost no weather condition.. Like skiding and driving by wet roads.. But in the game is pretty bad made, its same as day just dark sky, tunders and raindrops shield..

  70. I think you miss read the article mate. From what i gather it seems that we will get a new feature "tyre grades" with a free update and a licensed tyre manufacturer with the DLC.
So i guess you could use modded tyres for the look and have the "tyre grades" feature implemented with this new update.

  71. Thanks SCS, i'm happy to get this latest DLC, like i got all other DLC's your pricing has always been very reasonable in relation to your efforts and costs to provide us these excellent updates !!
