Czech Finals of Young European Truck Driver 2012
A small team from SCS Software has visited Czech YETD finals today, taking place at Scania truck dealer Scanwest in the city of Plzeň. We wanted to experience the atmosphere of the competition ourselves, after implementing it into Scania Truck Driving Simulator based just on movies and photos. We were in awe, the best drivers really can do incredible things behind the wheel. This year's Czech winner is definitely going to be a very strong contender in the European finals.
We were also presenting the new game to the visitors - both adult truckers as well as kids looked to have a lot of fun with it.

ReplyDeleteId like some suggestions from other Logitech G27 users about the profiler settings. I use:
Overall Effects Strength= 60%
Spring Effect Strength= 45%
Damper Effect Strenth= 45%
I think that higher values of OES vibrate the wheel above the normal.
SES and DES higher values i think that make it hard to turn while parking, which is a big part of the game. 45% is still a bit hard, should i set them to 0?
What do u think of my settings in general and do u have any suggestions that would fit better to a truck? coz this is a racing wheel, it was not made for trucks! :P

Yeap, very nice and real sound, i hope in ETS 2 all the trucks will have real sounds, at least all the manufactures.
I guess I got used to the sound of the GTS and ETS MOD who were, and what I thought was strange when you take your finger off the mouse or gamepad it back to the neutral.

I played more of the "deliveries" mode and it`s going quite well, i`m not having that fps drop like in demo center. STDS has a very nice engine, i like the control of the truck, the feeling, all, in ETS 2 i hope to be a little more optimized, just a little more.
ReplyDeleteFor STDS i want more Dangerous drives missions, this is after the freeroam the best mode in the game, i like it a lot to drive on those challenging roads :X.
Well i drive trucks since 11 years with my DAD, so i can say one thing, Physics is much much better than before, but not amazing or is like said is "FINE". I dont expect to much from a little company like SCS. Here is only two ways that i can help; one is paying for the games and another is telling what we want to see. I wish the best for Czec SCS. Lovely people like my Czec Friend Tomas Marek. Good Luck all.

Me too. Un joc cu masini mai este cum mai este, dar tirul este dificil, este un vehicul extrem de lung, iti trebuie mare mare atentie atunci can conduci, trebuie sa sti cum sa iei virajele, sa sti sa folosesti frana de motor si asa mai departe. Nu cred ca un copil de 12 ani stie aceste lucruri nici macar unul de 14. Oricum pana la urma este un joc, dar totusi mi se pare un pic ciudat sa vad un copil asa de mic ca conduce un tir si cu G27 :)). Nici macar nu stie ce este al ambreiaj, defapt nu cred ca stie care este ambreiajul.

ReplyDeleteSCS Soft, I have just noticed that when traffic cars go to gas station, they don't stop to fill their fuel tank, they just passing through gas station. That's not very good.

ReplyDeleteCars always use seperate pumps to refuel than lorries so i do not see what the problem would be or why it matters whether they stop, cars would never stop to refuel at the same pump anyway . all making them stop would do is add extra uneccessary coding to the game

ReplyDeleteI don`t have a high end PC and i have HDR-ON. I turned it off but not that much diference, so isn`t about the HDR. Change the wheater quality, that was a big change for me, in good. I back it up from high to medium and it was significant better, i have more fps.
DeleteNow i use almost all high, shadows medium, hdr off, antialising and its fine! I ll try to change the weather too, but i like the heavy rain as it is now!!

ReplyDeleteSCS i've got to say i'm quite enjoying STDS, the physics are a huge improvemnt over previous games there's only a couple of minor niggles I can see, both to do with the H shifter,
ReplyDelete1, it's too easy to stall the truck, while waiting at the lights for exapmle i've put it into gear and been sat there with the clutch in ready to go, when the lights change the revs have dropped so much that the truck stalls.
2, The gear ratios in the lower gears seem a little too close together. Both of these things can be compensated for but it'd be good to have them sorted in a patch.
On the subject of new games, when you announced STDS didn't you say there were 2 projects in the works to release before ETS2? ETS2 is only 2 months away so i'm intrigued as to what the other project is.
On another note I watched with interest the orceedings of the Double Fine project run through Kickstarter.
Admittedly, as enigmatic as Pawel :-) I can appreciate he's not Tim Schafer... However SCS have a loyal following who, i'm sure would happily donate money to assist SCS software with future projects. Tim Schafer asked set out to raise $400,000 and raised nearly $4,000,000. Could be worth a look.
Onother idea I've thought of is to release paid for DLC.

One of your modellers could make a fully skinable Scania 143, with various trims levels, custom interiors, fully customisable (light bars, axle configurations etc) you could change a small fee such as 10 euros to download it and install it into the game. You could even make it so it has to be activated so one person can't download it then send the files to their friends, you could even make one off specials and hold auctions for these trucks.

DeletePersonally I think it's a good idea, nobody is forced to buy anything extra. same with any dlc its just an enhancement I've recntly paid almost £15 for the Forza 4 Porsche pack What is the difference. I have purchased both the PMDG 747 and MD-11 for FSX plus numerous other extras dlc doesn't drive custmoers away in my opinion

thats should be crazy good idea, of course truck fans is not fanatics like shooters or rpg gamers but it could help SCS make money. I can pay for DLC and many others too, but i know a lot of people will make a crack for it. so if does not work what they will loose? but if work well SCS can make millions. for now only 2 ways to help SCS is buying the game and ask for what we want to see next.

ReplyDeleteI am also enjoying Scania TDS, just one small thing that I would like to have fixed, it seems that when you choose right hand drive vehicle the F2 Mirrors reflect the wrong detail, the left mirror shows right terrain and right mirror shows left terrain :)

Deletethe physics in STDS is dead, you can't maneuver the truck anymore, the trailer wheels are behaving as if they are locked.
ReplyDeleteI've done enough programming to know how the wheelcollider works in most physics engine, this looks like they scaled something and now it's too much weight for the physics wheelcollider to handle.
you can clearly see the problem if you put the truck at 90 deg from the trailer and then full steer to undo it and reverse, the truck will start chasing the trailer, the trailer just doesn't want to grip and go backwards.
I didn`t quite understood very well what are you saying, can you make a video please, i didn`t saw nothing wrong in the game in this aspect. When you turn at 90 deg or more the interior wheels are not moving, just the exterior ones. Sorry if i understood wrong, you can explain better if you show us a video.

Second, I've stopped to look left to check out if there's no cars coming. I've stopped a bit more far compared to the point where the line was. Well, the AI-car have stopped there and the car on the main road just kept going. When I've stopped, another car, that was on the main road stopped too, though it had the way to go. I've been standing at the same point as the AI-car, that was turning there before me. The point is: the AI-car on the main road didn't stop when another AI-car was making a turn, but it did, when I was turning. Third. Those cars are doing 50 km/h on secondary road, where 90 km/h is allowed. I'm sure that thing was annoying everyone in GTS and UKTS. Speed 'em up, SCS, I beg you. And you can make some of the cars break the speed limit and overtake on the continuous. Just because some people do in the real life ;)
Fourth. There was a bit of road - not exactly in the city itself - at one of the reconstructions. Where the 50 is allowed, and then is the bit where you can do 90, and then there's 50 again. The thing is - the game says i'm going too fast in the 90 bit, thought I haven't passed the 50 km/h sign. I suppose, the 50 sign is there because of that piece of road with quite tight corners. That sort of might point where it is.
Fifth. The AI-cars suddenly stop as you're going in your lane and they are in the lane for oncoming traffic. That would be OK, if I was going at them in some tight corner, but I don't. Maybe, they just think I'm to close to them, but I definitely wasn't at their side of the road. Stop them doing that, it's not natural.

They will fix those bugs, but as you sayed, SCS need to speed the AI trafic, at least the cars, trucks are traveling slower due to the cargo, trucks without cargo should have more speed. In ETS 2 i whant this anoying things to be fixed. :) GL SCS, and hope we see some news about ETS 2 soon

Deletehe trucks with load can do 50 go 90 as well, depending on the terrain. Well, just speeding up would be alright. You could do that yourself, but it looked unnaturally, because traffic was doing 80-90 km/h in the corners as well as on the straight bits of road.
DeleteI discovered something incredibly awesome in STDS AI trafic. I didn`t saw before now. I was on a street and i wanted to make a left turn, was a lot of trafic, i`ve whaited i think 3-4 vehicles to pass but still came lots of them, then a truck stoped and gives me a flash to make the left turn, thats really awesome, i didn`t know this feature was in the game, very cool and real.

ReplyDeleteAfter the new patch, performance decreased a bit. Before i was having minimum 50 FPS to a maximum of 90 FPS, now i got only a minimum of 20 FPS and maximum 45 FPS. SCS, PLEASE, OPTIMIZE THIS GRAPHIC ENGINE!!!!

ReplyDeleteOh yeah. Those dangerous drives challenges took but a moment to pass, but that was a very nice one. Traffic doesn't start on yellow now, that's fine. And... does the free drive mode now start in a hour that is on a clock right now? O_o

Looks really nice, graphics improved (a lot), handling as well (engine brake now behave more real, although it still might be too effective; steering's; toogling lights...and much more). Still I find some flaws I wouldn't expect. First the beforementioned engine sound. You recorded and mixed it well, sounds well, but when the engine's revs go low, engine stops by itself (chokes), sound turn off (who would expect that, right :D) and then turn on again (instantly).
ReplyDeleteAnother one is, that the sequential shifting doesn't seem to work. You have to press and hold a key (on a keyboard) to start driving forward or backward and again, when your truck is moving too slow, now the engine doesn't stop (in most cases), but the transmission go to neutral.
The tird thing I don't like and see an improvement for the future (but don't think it's a flaw) is leaning or zooming towards mirors. In this game with this graphics mirrors finaly get sense, but the mirrors on the opposite side of driver's seat are just too small. I don't find screen resolution 1600*900 small, so it'd be great to have the baility to lean or zoom (a little) toward the mirrors so you can see what's happening on the other side. It would be nice to see it in future games, but in the way, that if you zoom to mirrors, you still have option to look around the cab (and outside).
