A real-life story

We are always excited and humbled at the same time when we hear that our games have profoundly and positively affected the lives of our fans. Marcus Armstrong sent us his story:

To everyone at SCS Software, especially those dealing with Euro Truck Simulator and American Truck Simulator. I just wanted to say a massive thank you to everyone involved, even though you have kind of lost a player.

I use to be an avid fan of the series playing Euro Truck Simulator, UK Truck Simulator and then both Euro Truck Simulator 2 and American Truck Simulator, investing in steering wheels, Track IR and gear sticks for my PC.

Two years ago the company I worked for had been turning in a direction I was not overly comfortable with. I felt that it was moving away from its core values and what defined it as unique and I started considering an exit strategy. This exit strategy becomes more important when, out of a team of three, one of us had to take voluntary redundancy.

As the youngest team member in my mid-thirties, I decided that I would be in the best position to get started a new career, a career in different industry as I was a little burnt out doing what I was doing. I needed to be able to get into an industry where I could retrain quickly and earn what I was earning before, or more. I ended up, within a two month period, passing both HGV Class 2 and then Class 1 license. By the third month, I had a job with R.T. Keedwell which I have been doing for the last couple of years, driving a Mercedes Actros MP4 (which I am currently writing this from a truck stop for the night, good ol' Hotel Mercedes).

So why am I thanking you guys and gals at SCS? Well out of several industries I had been trained in; Web Dev, 3D Animation, Administration and Finance, it was ETS2 and ATS which I had enjoyed playing so much that I decided to take out a loan to cover the training costs and then base not just my career on, but my lifestyle as well, I am a Trucker (even grew the beard). I'm currently racking up 2500km a week driving all over the UK where no two days are quite the same and I meet countless people from the companies we haul for and other drivers.

SCS, you gave me the inspiration to venture out into a career I had never would have thought of and now love doing. So again, a huge heartfelt thank you and keep up the good work!

Marcus A.
Trucker nameplate "4 1/2 Days"

Thank you, Marcus, we are so happy for you! We wish you all the best and safe returns from your hauls.

Marcus is actually an Actros driver as you could notice from the text and photo. What a lucky coincidence - conveniently, we happen to have a very related project in the very final stages of development. More information will be available really soon.

Utah: Kennecott Copper Mine

Known for its pioneers and religious history, breathtaking national parks and ski resorts, Utah has a large Travel and Tourism economy which sees over 23 million people a year. However, this is not the state's only booming industry.

Utah also has an abundance of natural resources within its rocks, which has created a large mining industry. From gold to coal, the state has many operations which extract these precious elements from the ground. However, there is one industry that stands out from among the rest.

Being one of the largest man-made open-pit excavations in the world, the Kennecott Copper Mine which operates all year round has produced over 20 million tons of refined copper ore. Its operation is so large it can be seen from outer space, and makes for an impressive view for any driver close by.

In our upcoming Utah map expansion for American Truck Simulator, drivers will be able to assist in the operation by delivering equipment and resources to and from the mine. Be sure to take extra care when driving through this impressive landmark, as you drive on dusty roads and into an active mine.

A look back at our Gamescom 2019

We are back home after an exciting and exhausting marathon that is Gamescom.

It was our honor and joy to meet so many of our fans in person. Thank you for stopping by! We are proud to have captured the attention of thousands of visitors, with so many people ready to stand for hours in the long queue to give a try to our truck sim motion seat setups. There was a reward there - a chance to be the first to drive through segments of the upcoming American Truck Simulator - Utah and Euro Truck Simulator 2 - Road to the Black Sea map DLC expansions.

Of course, we are well aware that only a small fraction of our games' fan base can make it to any gaming expo. So if you are interested in at least getting an impression of the atmosphere of a major gaming show from our perspective, we have created a short video recap for you. We'd also like to thank all the hardware and equipment manufacturers for their support in making sure that playing our games at Gamescom has been a first-class experience.

Thank you, you're breathtaking!

Road to the Black Sea: Romanian Cities

Romania, known for its beautiful forested regions and mountain ranges, is also home to many preserved historical cities. Many of them feature buildings and landmarks that have stood there for many years, but also are home to a variety of different Soviet-era homes and apartment blocks.

As you drive on the roads in Romania in our upcoming map expansion for Euro Truck Simulator 2, Road to the Black Sea, you will be able to explore these unique cities for yourselves.

Many of these areas were chosen for their surrounding industries, such as steelworks or manufacturing, which plays an important part in the economy of the country.

When the time arrives, we are sure you will love exploring these cities for yourself. You never know what piece of history you may find around the corner.

Utah: Sleep well, traveler

After a long days' drive through the hot and dusty roads of Utah, truckers will need somewhere to take a well-deserved rest. Truck Stops are the cornerstone for any driver, providing the necessary amenities and facilities for truckers who are out on the road for the long haul.

Mainly found along interstates; each Truck Stop can usually be found with surrounding businesses, such as family-run diners, convenience stores, and even motels which make every visit unique for drivers.

As day turns to night, make sure to set your navigation to the nearest rest stop and get some shut-eye, for tomorrow a new day of trucking awaits. Sleep well, traveler.

Black Sea: Industries

Today we are happy to be able to share with you a selection of new industry prefabs, which we have created for our upcoming map expansion for Euro Truck Simulator 2, Road to the Black Sea.

The Black Sea region is home to a wide variety of large and diverse industries. From coastal shipyards to inland mining quarries, they provide a large economy for the surrounding cities and countries. Our team involved in the process have taken inspirations and created relevant and real industrial facilities as the basis of these prefabs.

We hope you enjoy this batch of screenshots which feature some of these upcoming industries.

Goodyear event extended with community contest!

The Goodyear Roll-Out ended up being so short that it took us by surprise honestly. Three days? For real?! We assumed that it would take over a week for you to make those 300K deliveries. We knew our fan community is very dedicated, but we still underestimated your commitment. We will know better next time.

Ultimately, over forty thousand people managed to complete the event after we added an extra day to complete your personal goal, but it is obvious there are still many more players driving the events for joy, or hunting for event-specific World of Trucks Achievements - and they don’t want to miss out forever on this one.

After weighing the pros and cons, we decided that we should take your suggestions to heart. Today, we are reopening the event in a limited capacity for all players, especially those who were on the edge of completing their personal goal of 10 deliveries. The rules have changed slightly; since the community goal has been reached already, there is no longer a chance to win a free Steam activation key for the DLC. But, you can still earn your World of Trucks Achievement and Goodyear Blimp hanging Steam inventory item.

This also gives us an additional opportunity to push the pedal to the metal with cross-promotion, and show the kind people at Goodyear that we can treat their brand with all the attention and respect we can provide.

The Goodyear Tyres Pack DLC is available on Steam now and remains a prize for those who previously finished the event during its first run.

BOTH EXTENDED EVENT AND COMMUNITY CONTEST WILL END ON SUNDAY AUGUST 18th AT 23:59 UTC

At the same time, we're complementing the extended event with a community contest. Since there's no need to race now, why not make some cool screenshots of your Goodyear themed truck to share with others? Of course, you get a chance to win some nice prizes too!

  • Tune-up your truck (and trailer optionally) using the Goodyear Tyres Pack DLC.
  • Take an in-game screenshot - either of your truck (and trailer optionally) or inside the cabin of your truck featuring the new accessories.
  • Use the vanilla game only (mods are not permitted this time).
  • Share these screenshots either on your Twitter or Instagram profiles with the #GoodyearRollOut hashtag and tag Goodyear's and our profiles. The direct links to these profiles are as follows.

Prizes will be of equal value for the best five picks, and comprise of a selection from our e-shop of up to 100 Euro in value!
