South Dakota: Truck Stops #2

Welcome back to South Dakota, truckers! In today's blog, we would like to showcase another preview of various truck stops ready to welcome you and your truck in this upcoming map expansion for American Truck Simulator, so let's take a look.

There is nothing like taking a break after a long day (or night) of driving your 18-wheeler. And when you're driving through a beautiful state like South Dakota, those breaks become even better, with scenic views waiting around every corner. Just remember that the law requires you to take regular rest periods, and these truck stops offer the perfect places to relax, recharge, and stay safe on the road.

Some of these truck stops will greet you almost immediately as you cross into South Dakota from our previously released map expansion. If you're arriving from Sioux City, Iowa, via I-29, you'll find a cozy truck stop where you can rest before continuing north. Alternatively, if you're entering the Mount Rushmore State from Nebraska, there's another convenient rest stop waiting for you just past the Missouri River in the town of Yankton.

And the next one, which we hope will make our #BestCommunityEver happy - since it's been a topic of discussion about whether we would include it - is the Alzada truck stop, located on the road leading from Montana into South Dakota.

The other truck stops can be found scattered across the state on both sides of the Missouri River, which cuts South Dakota right down the middle. They vary in size and atmosphere, ranging from small, cozy ones on country roads to larger, full-service stops located near busier towns. We're curious to see if you recognize some of them, as they're based on real locations and carefully recreated to resemble their real-world counterparts!

And that's it for today! If you are excited to explore this state, make sure to add the South Dakota DLC to your Steam wishlist! Also, remember to follow us on our X/Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, Bluesky, and YouTube for all the latest news from not only this map expansion, but also other American Truck Simulator projects, or sign up for our newsletter to stay informed. South Dakota: Truck Stops

Today, we’re taking another look at the upcoming American Truck Simulator map expansions, this time focusing on South Dakota. Just like in Illinois, our map team has been hard at work recreating some of the truck stops across the state that serve as essential points for rest, refueling, and taking in the local surroundings. Let’s see where the road might take you.

While exploring South Dakota, you’ll discover a variety of truck stops scattered across the state. Drivers can look forward to taking a break and refueling in towns and cities like Buffalo, Spearfish, Martin, and Murdo, each offering its own unique atmosphere.

Rapid City, the second most populous city in the state, features a truck stop situated close to the highway and with a view over a massive industrial complex.

The next truck stop by the town of Wall stands out with its name inspired by the “natural wall” of rock formations near Badlands National Park. Here, drivers will be greeted by the town’s signature high dinosaur statue, keeping watch over US-14 and offering a truly unique landmark.

Sioux Falls, the most populous city in South Dakota, features a truck stop located along I-90, as well as a nearby truck dealership and a driver staffing agency. Within the city, make sure you visit the USS South Dakota Battleship Memorial, which honors the state’s military history and serves as a place of remembrance.

In Huron, the truck stop sits not far from Ravine Park Lake. Drivers stopping here will also notice farming machinery nearby, highlighting the strong agricultural traditions of the area.

Watertown features a city truck stop located not far from its signature Art Center building, a cultural landmark that adds to the local identity.

And finally, there is Bison, a town platted in 1907 and named after the American bison that once roamed the land in great numbers. Here, we have to highlight a small regional airport nearby that gives this stop a distinct atmosphere.

We hope you enjoyed this look at truck stops across South Dakota. As always, keep in mind this expansion is still in development, so details may change before release. If you’re eager to explore these locations yourself, don’t forget to add the South Dakota expansion to your Steam wishlist, and also, make sure to follow us on X/Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, Bluesky, and YouTube, or subscribe to our newsletter for more previews. Illinois: Truck Stops #2

In the last edition of the Illinois: Truck Stops blog, we introduced you to a few stops and rest areas that you can look forward to in the upcoming Illinois DLC for American Truck Simulator. We hope you're ready for the second batch today!

Our first stop today takes us to the city of Rushville. Here, you’ll find small shops and local businesses to explore, adding to the charm of this small-town setting.

Another location offers a unique scenery with a shopping center perched above the highway on I-90. This rest area also provides easy access back to the interstate from both sides, allowing you to quickly get moving again.

Traveling along I-64, you might find yourself at a small, peaceful rest area surrounded by open fields. It’s a quiet corner of the Prairie State where you can relax for a while before continuing your route.

Just outside Gilman (also known as The City of the Crossroads), there’s a big rest stop along US-24 featuring multiple places to rest and refuel. Whether you need a quick stop or an overnight stay, this location has all the facilities a driver could want.

Finally, we arrive in Effingham, home to a large truck stop surrounded by shopping centers and malls. This is an ideal spot to stock up on supplies or take a short break before you roll out again.

We hope these previews give you a glimpse of what’s waiting for you in Illinois. As always, keep in mind that the DLC is still in development, so some details may change before release. If you’re excited to explore the Prairie State, don’t forget to add this map expansion to your Steam wishlist. And of course, stay connected with us on X/Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, Bluesky, and TikTok, or subscribe to our newsletter for more updates. Keep on truckin' and we’ll see you on the road!

Illinois: Truck Stops

The first preview from the upcoming Illinois map expansion for American Truck Simulator has just arrived! Today, we would like to show you some truck stops that our map designers have been working on, so let's take a look.

Truck stops are an essential part of the trucking industry, serving as more than just places to refuel. They offer long-haul drivers a convenient place to take a break and fulfill the mandatory rest period required after eight hours on the road.

These first three truck stops are all located in close proximity to the city of Bloomington, right in the center of the Prairie State. Each one is inspired by their real-world counterpart and our map team is making sure to recreate them with as much detail as possible.

One of these is located by the I-55 with a big gas station, parking for both trucks and personal vehicles and even a small dog park! The other one can be found along US-150 and while it is not as big, it offers everything you may need on the road including a supermarket and a restaurant. If you travel northwest from Bloomington, you can discover the third one near the city of Peoria with a large truck parking area.

Moving to the northern part of Illinois, you may come across another truck stop near the city of Rockford on I-39 - you will surely find a place to rest there as there is a huge amount of parking spaces for trucks.

We wouldn't want to leave out the south of the Prairie State either, so if you are traveling on the Dwight D. Eisenhower Highway, make sure to stop by a truck stop near Rend Lake, as you will surely like to spend some time there to soak in the Illinois surroundings. When you travel further north on this road, you will find another nice stop near the city of Effingham.

We hope you will enjoy your stay at these accommodations in the Prairie State! Just remember this DLC is still in its early stages of development so everything you see here may be changed before the release.

If you are looking forward to trucking there, make sure to add this map expansion to your Steam wishlist! Don't forget to stay connected with us for all the updates by following our Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, Bluesky, and YouTube. We'd also really appreciate it if you could sign up for our newsletter to stay informed, even when you're not able to check out the blog or our socials. We will see you on the road!

We're happy to share that the Iowa DLC will feature over 20 truck stops! Ranging from smaller roadside stations to huge gas stops that are the size of a small town, our team has taken great care in recreating the atmosphere and layout of these truck stops.
