Washington: Prefab building

One of the challenging tasks with every new map expansion is to come up with new industry depots. Since these are the cornerstone of the in-game economy with direct impact on gameplay overall,  their development has come a long way from the same-sized generic prefabs, through landmark-like quality of huge industry areas to modular depots - which you could see for the first time in our recent map expansions of Oregon and Beyond the Baltic Sea.

In Washington, we took another step with modular prefabs. Each dock consists of the foundation stone of our own depot and around it, we gradually build the whole complex, making the process quick and efficient. This also makes each depot unique, as every map designer has a different approach.

Today's batch of screenshots shows depots in general, while some of the future blog posts will go more in depth of the industries found in the state of Washington.

Estonian Birthday

The release of Beyond the Baltic Sea brought five countries to the world of Euro Truck Simulator 2, including Estonia, which celebrates its 101st birthday on February 24th. To mark this special occasion, we have updated the Estonian Paint Jobs Pack for ETS2 with an additional national truck cabin design to wear with pride when driving across Europe. For existing owners of this paint job pack, this special design will come as a free update to your garage. Happy Birthday Estonia!

Community Driver Seats #8

It has been some time since we shared your driver seats. And now that the latest 1.34 update is safely out, we'd like to share more photos of your driving rigs. Previous blog posts on this theme inspired some of you to build your own, according to discussions throughout various fansites so perhaps this one will inspire some more.

Regardless of if some parts are home-made or if everything is bought, all of these show great devotion to driving games, almost no need to get a real truck right?

Want to spare space at home? This guy shows us how it's done ;)

And it's time for some real creativity! Everything that can be bought can also be hand-made at home, and here's the proof!

This one, though....with this setup we'd be afraid to start Windows, let alone thinking about pushing the horn key. That said, we are not sure if people living six blocks away can hear your truck well enough ;)

Thanks to everybody sharing your photos with us - and for those who didn't and would like to, post them here on our forum, please. Also keep an eye out on our social media channels, such as our facebook and twitter for the latest news and announcements.

Washington: Urban landmarks

Transferring real-world environments into our games universe is always a challenging process. For example, there are many technical and practical limitations which exist, many of which are related to the games' world scale of 1:20. To help us create an immersive experience that allows players to drive in the most realistic environment possible, we use several development tricks; one of these techniques is creating and placing distinctive landmarks in addition to local architecture, which can be natural or man-made structures.

Today we are focusing on showing you urban landmarks which can be found in our upcoming American Truck Simulator map expansion for Washington state. These can all greatly differ in shapes and size, from smaller statues of prominent figures to large bridges spanning across the state. Local experts will know many of these landmarks instantly, and we are sure you will be quick to recognize them in the blog comments below.

Steam Awards 2018: Thank you for your vote!

The Steam Awards 2018 are over and the results have been revealed. Earlier this year, it was a nice surprise to see that we had made the first round of voting. Euro Truck Simulator 2 was nominated for the Most Fun with a Machine category, among so many other fantastic and popular titles and developers nominated. We know this wasn't possible without our devoted community.

We may not have taken the title this time around, but every vote made for us by our community was in our eyes the biggest award. We appreciate every one of you for your continued support throughout the years, and to us, YOU are the champions!

We would like to congratulate all those who received awards this year, especially to the Rocket League team who won the 'Most Fun with a Machine' Category. You may still remember our cross-promo effort from a few years back.

From all of us here at SCS Software we would like to thank you once more for your vote. We are already looking forward to this year's Steam Awards for 2019.

As a token of our gratitude for your support, and to fuel some speculation we all like so much ;-), we want to leave you with this before-and-after teaser image of a project we have currently in the works.

ATS and ETS2 Update 1.34

After the content-loaded updates from previous months, 1.34 is a relatively small maintenance update serving primarily to introduce new content prepared by our vehicle department. The next big things planned need more time in development, and we anticipate 1.35 to be a lot juicier. Still, we believe these new additions will please players of both of our games. The limited scope of this update is also the reason why there wasn't an Open Beta. So what do we have for you?

First and foremost, this update brings a very long awaited truck into Euro Truck Simulator 2 - The Man TGX Euro 6!  It comes with 3 cabin and 6 chassis variants, all the way up to the 8x4 and thanks to the unique MAN design, all three cabins are compatible with the heavy-duty chassis!

The road to implementing the new truck into ETS2 was actually very bumpy. Work on this model started several years ago based on limited references we had for the Efficient Line 2 edition. We aimed to release it with all chassis variants but spent over a year chasing various leads and sources to get them right. We are excited to have finally completed it now after obtaining important missing reference blueprints. In the future, it will be complemented by an up to date current production model, The Efficient Line 3.

ATS receives one of the highly demanded additions to the game - buyable log trailers! Our traffic report sources for Oregon shows a large convoy inbound for the wood transport companies, with a high chance of traffic jams on the forest roads, so be careful out there. As an alternative route, we can recommend OR-140, which is now prolonged all the way to Nevada. And if you're still worried about driving in Oregon, we recommend visiting a Tonopah city, which has been completely refreshed.

To enjoy the 1.34 update, make sure to OPT OUT of beta branches and your game will be automatically updated on Steam.

For the legacy non-Steam edition of ETS2, the update should be ready in a few days.

  • As with any update, due to the changes, a number of mods may need some work to catch up!
