Iceland: Ring Road

When creating the upcoming Iceland DLC for Euro Truck Simulator 2, one road immediately stood out as absolutely essential - Route 1, also known as the Ring Road. This main road circles the entire island and serves as the backbone of Iceland’s transport network. For players, it will become the main route for most journeys, whether you are delivering cargo across the country or simply exploring.

Driving along Route 1 offers a chance to experience some of Iceland’s most iconic sights. From the roadside, you can get a glimpse of the spectacular Seljalandsfoss waterfall, pass through the coastal village of Vík, admire the icy beauty of Jökulsárlón lagoon, wind your way through the dramatic Eastern Fjords, and continue past the volcanic landscapes surrounding Lake Mývatn. Countless rivers, lakes, and valleys accompany the journey, ensuring every stretch of the road has something unique to offer. This is just a short list of the cities and landmarks you will encounter along the way!

The Ring Road is not just about scenery, however. With its many bridges and even an undersea tunnel, it showcases Iceland’s infrastructure and the challenges of connecting distant communities across difficult terrain.

While detours and regional roads will certainly play their part, particularly in the south-west, the Ring Road remains the essential artery for travelling longer distances. It is the heart of almost every adventure you will take in Iceland.

This DLC is still in development, and we look forward to sharing more about it in the future. By now, don't forget to support us by adding the Iceland DLC to your Steam wishlist. Also, remember to give our X/TwitterInstagramFacebookBluesky, and TikTok a follow or subscribe to our newsletter, so you'll receive all of the updates about our games! Until next time, keep on trucking.

Nordic Horizons: Kiruna's 113-Year-Old Wooden Church

A few weeks ago, we shared a blog post about Kiruna, a city in northern Sweden that is being recreated in the upcoming Nordic Horizons DLC for Euro Truck Simulator 2. Since then, we've learnt some fascinating news: Kiruna's 113-year-old wooden church was relocated due to the nearby underground mine. We thought this incredible real-world move deserved a closer look - so today we're bringing you the story behind this remarkable transportation and how we quickly decided to reflect it in the game as well!

Kiruna is known, among many other things, as the home of the world's largest underground iron ore mine. As we mentioned before, this massive site will appear as a depot in the upcoming map expansion - our very first underground depot in ETS2.

However, the mine's ongoing expansion has put parts of the city at risk, including its most iconic landmark: the wooden church built between 1909 and 1912, once voted Sweden's most beautiful building. To preserve the town's heritage, a new city center was constructed, featuring the carefully restored and relocated historic clock tower. The next step was even more ambitious - moving the 672-tonne church.

After months of preparation and safety testing, the church was relocated in August by the Dutch logistics company Mammoet. In its entirety, it traveled roughly five kilometers on steel beams carried by two trains of 28-axle Self-Propelled Modular Transporters, over the course of two days. At nearly 40 meters wide, the move was an extraordinary feat of engineering, requiring even the roads to be widened in advance. Thanks to meticulous planning, the church reached its new home successfully.

We couldn't overlook such an incredible achievement and knew it had to be represented in-game. Our research team gathered visual plans of the new site, allowing us to prototype the area and the church's placement. From there, our talented assets team built the model, and our map designers updated the city of Kiruna with its newly relocated landmark. The whole process took about seven days, bringing this historic move into Euro Truck Simulator 2.

We're happy that we were able to relocate the church in time for the upcoming map expansion, allowing it to shine in its new home within the game as well!

If you are looking forward to exploring Kiruna yourself, make sure to add the Nordic Horizons map expansion to your Steam Wishlist! Stay tuned for more updates from this map expansion by following us on TwitterFacebookInstagramBluesky, and YouTube, or by signing up for our newsletter. Until next time, we will see you on the road!

Louisiana: Shreveport

As we continue our journey across the upcoming Louisiana DLC for American Truck Simulator, today we’re taking a closer look at one of the largest cities in the state, Shreveport. Located in the northwest corner of Louisiana, this bustling city offers a fascinating mix of culture, history, and industry. We’re excited to bring it to life for our players!

Shreveport owes much of its identity to its location along the Red River. Truckers entering the city will cross a number of key bridges, including one of the most recognizable rail bridges in the region. With the river flowing through its heart, Shreveport is both a scenic and practical hub for commerce and transportation.

You will be able to spot several of Shreveport’s most iconic landmarks as you pass through. The city’s skyline is dotted with tall hotels and resorts that overlook the riverfront, adding a distinctive look to the horizon. In the downtown area, you’ll find civic and cultural highlights such as a large convention center, a prominent courthouse, and a well-known financial institution.

For those looking for entertainment, Shreveport is home to several riverboat-style resorts and casinos, each with its own unique architecture and colorful night lighting. Meanwhile, families and visitors often gather at the city’s popular science center, which features an unmistakable dome-shaped planetarium.

Shreveport is also no stranger to major sporting events and concerts. Truckers driving past the southern part of the city may notice the football stadium, famous for hosting big games and annual events, as well as a nearby multi-purpose coliseum that serves as the home of the local hockey team.

Of course, a city like Shreveport is more than just its landmarks. In American Truck Simulator, players will find a variety of depots scattered throughout the area, along with a garage for those looking to expand their trucking operations in Louisiana.

We can’t wait for you to experience Shreveport for yourself in our upcoming Louisiana DLC. Until then, keep an eye out for more blog posts as we continue to explore the cities, industries, and road networks that await you in the Pelican State.

In the meantime, don’t forget to add the DLC to your Steam Wishlist and follow us on X/TwitterInstagramFacebookBluesky, and TikTokosubscribe to our newsletter for more behind-the-scenes content, teasers, and announcements.

South Dakota: Grasslands and Forests

South Dakota is a lovely state, home to diverse landscapes and rich wildlife. Let's take a look at some of the natural locations our map designers are currently recreating for this in-development map expansion for American Truck Simulator.

The Mount Rushmore state is located in the North Central Region of the United States. As you can see on the screenshots from these locations, South Dakota's landscape offers a truly unique driving experience, ranging from vast open plains with far-reaching views across the countryside to rolling hills, lush green forests, fertile fields, and striking rock formations along the roadside.

In the western part of the state, you'll come across a region full of dense forests and distinctive dome-shaped mountains, known as the Black Hills. Several scenic routes wind through this beautiful national park, including US 85, US 385, US 18, and SD-44, which pass through beautiful cities like Sturgis or Hot Springs.

As you head further east, you can take Interstate 90, which runs east to west across the state and passes near the stunning Badlands National Park - just like SD-44.

Next, you'll cross the Missouri River, which flows through the center of South Dakota and divides the state into two. On the eastern side lies the Prairie Plains, a landscape of wide rolling hills, flat river valleys, and vast fields of sunflowers. You will be able to spot these beautiful locations, especially when driving on roads such as SD-34, SD-50, I-90, and US 18, all of which showcase the area's pristine natural beauty.

We hope you liked this preview of South Dakota's wonderful nature, but you can look forward to more, as we will explore the lovely Black Hills and Badlands National Parks in greater detail in our future blog posts!

If you are excited to explore this state's natural beauty, make sure to add the South Dakota DLC to your Steam wishlistAlso, remember to follow us on our TwitterFacebookInstagramBluesky, and YouTube for all the latest news from not only this map expansion, but also other American Truck Simulator projects, or sign up for our newsletter to stay informed. Coaches: Scania Touring

We're incredibly excited to share another update on our ongoing work on the Coaches project for Euro Truck Simulator 2. In our previous blog, we shared a broad overview of what this project is all about. Today, we’d like to shine a spotlight on one of the first vehicles we’re working on for this DLC: the Scania Touring.

The Scania Touring is a long-distance coach designed for comfort, safety, and efficiency. First introduced in 2009, it has become a popular choice for operators across Europe and beyond. Depending on its configuration, this model can carry up to 50 passengers, making it a reliable companion for longer journeys. Known for its sleek, modern design and strong reputation in the industry, the Touring continues Scania’s tradition of producing high-quality, dependable vehicles for passenger transport.

Our team is working hard on recreating this coach in the game. From its distinctive exterior design to the carefully considered interior, we’re putting a lot of effort into ensuring that the Scania Touring is brought to life with great attention to detail. As always, this process involves a lot of collaboration between our vehicle artists, designers, and programmers, who are working together to deliver a model that meets our quality standards.

Of course, the work is ongoing, and what you see here today is still a work in progress. We’re excited to be able to share these early previews with you and to give you a first taste of what’s to come.

This is just one of several coaches that will eventually be part of the Coaches DLC, and we can’t wait to show you more in the future as development continues.

We hope you are as excited as we are for the upcoming Coaches DLC as the development continues! For the latest updates, be sure to follow us on our social media channels on X/TwitterInstagramFacebookBluesky, and TikTok, or sign up for our newsletterIf you're looking forward to hitting the road in style, don’t forget to add the Coaches DLC to your Steam Wishlist!
