Our friends at our UK publishing partner Excalibur Publishing have just released a really great time-lapse movie from Euro Truck Simulator 2. The video is compressing some two hours of real-time driving (actual time spent by a human in front of the monitor) into the space of only a few minutes. This footage really puts the scale of the ETS2 world into perspective!

DeleteI`ve played GTS and my longest trip was 1000 and some kilometers and it tooked me about 1 hour, so this means that from UK to Italy, depend on the city, it is ~ 2000-2500km, 2 hours is quite some time s[ent on a trip.
The good thing about ETS 2 it is that has great map, great views, GTS has crappy maps, roads, in ETS 2 is a pleasure to drive on those superb roads.
GTS was legal in the past, today is ETS2, and tomorrow will probably be the next!
DeleteCarlisle (UK) to Torino (Italy) as per the video = just under ~1090miles (~1754km) by major roads in RL.

Aberdeen (UK) to Bratislava (Slovakia) at ~1550 miles (~2494km), which if the former was ~2 hours in-game then the longest would be ~3 hours in-game (longer if you took minor roads).

We don`t wont one more flashy game with tuning,big map,polished grapichs and other less important stuff,because all of that is gonna get boring after some time.

There is a "retarder" in STDS, it’s worth noting a retarder (fluid, eddy current/compression release[jake])are normally “optional equipment” only while an exhaust brake is virtually always “standard equipment”.

ReplyDeleteFirst of all the gearbox in automatic mode should shift the gears at 1500 RPM not at the full throttle and on hills at 1600 rpm or 1700 RPM for better fuel economy. take a look on videos from youtube which shows you how they shift gears
Second of this I personally don't like how the light show at the back of the truck in the evening. They have like a neon pattern on the road.
On the trailers could you also make them visible in the night??? Like installing a reflective material on the back of them??? And also if you could install the ADR labels on the trailers it would be great
I really don't like the truck names and also purchase a license for the daf truck so that all of the truck have the real appearance like the real trucks and also give the real name of the truck.
I really don't like the shape of the tank reservoir. It looks weird in my opinion. In real life they have the cylindrical shape.
I really appreciate your hard work on this game like the map the number plates which i love them but please could you include my "requirements" too in this game???

Well, if you drive a truck with automatic gear, then it wont change gear at 1500 if you push full throttle, atleast the opticruise gearbox does not..sometimes it does, but it seems random from my experience, depending on how much throttle i give it. If the MAN auto gearbox is anything like the one in real life, then I will avoid it in the game aswell..cos its balls.

Most of the truck names are real, as far as I know its only DAF and Iveco that they could not obtain a lisence from..one can not simply just buy a lisence..the owners of the brand actualy have to like the idea that it is beeing used in (however in this case I dont think that would be a problem). I think it's more of a money issue, lisences are usualy not cheap to obtain.

never had any problem with automatic MAN before in bit more then 2 years, only have to know how to work it...
Deletefor example with full gas it will stick in 10 instead of shifting up to 12 (1 of many complaints)but simply release gaspedal for just a lil moment hit gas again right after and it will shift to 12 getting way better milage. (TGA, TGX, and TGM-experience between lower engine up till 440)
The MAN TGX420 I drove with auto gearbox I only drove for about a week, until I got my beloved Scania back.

SCS make the engine sound in the cabin louder, after 1.4.0 pacth the trafic engine is louder then mine.

now day's the trucks are very cuiet in the cab. the only thing you here is the turbo wistle. but I agree with you the surrounding is to loud atm

Although I have noticed several unfinished features and some that are completely missing (in STDS, but i think those two games are quite the same, only STDS is just kinda chopped off). I only hope, they would fix those troubles through the announced updates or at least the major problems (as Stefan mentioned above, I have no idea, how after those years and probably several copmlaints, there's still no retarder. Well again I hope it'll be part of the tuning stage.

DeleteMotor (the same as engine or exhaust) brake isn't retarder.
DeleteRetarder is another device placed on a drive shaft (hydraulic - needs aditional cooling - coolant from engine cooling system flows there, but the engine itself could overheat/electric - less effective but doesn't need much cooling - tractor engine doesn't overheat).
A “retarder” covers fluid [e.g. Scania, Voith/Eaton, ZF], eddy current [e.g. Telma, etc], rheostatic [e.g. anything with regenerative or resister heat grid], compression release [e.g. Jacobs, etc] and exhaust brakes, as they ALL perform the function of retarding vehicle movement by inducing braking torque within the driveline.
DeleteExhaust brakes are virtually standard equipment on most EU makes & modals of trucks, fluid, eddy current and compression release brakes are almost exclusively “optional” and are NOT part of the standard equipment on 99% of EU trucks.

Deleteb101uk: well then it's just about hairsplitting. You're right they all together are retarders. But in the same time it's quite set expression to call retarder the first you mentioned. And those are not a standart equipment. Engine brake, though it's also a retarder, is just refered to as an engine brake. At least in the Czech Republic, where SCSSoftware comes from, and I hope they read the comments thus I try to express myself clearer for them.

ReplyDeleteIts such an improvement from ETS2 but its such a shame that the petrol stations, toll booths and majority of junctions are identical and show no realism. The traffic is extremely light during the day, I hope SCS decide to add a traffic slider to increase traffic density.

Maybe in the future you could allow the driver to exit the tractor unit and enter the office to get jobs and refuel the vehicle at service stations.
They added 1 new junction type and a traffic slider would be good.

DeleteGTA V is expected (by industry buffs) to be launched in March and Summer of 2013. GTA4 was also launched at the end of April so it is a reasonable assumption.

Really impressive SCS. I am however very - very disappointed that you are delaying the game once again. If we would've heard it, and you would've told us why - that'd be fine, but you comitted in your "we're sorry"-letter to the first week of August. We're entering September, how about giving us an update?

DeleteAt the moment, we think it will take an extra month of testing and tuning to get the game completed, possibly pushing the release date into September. But this is still our best guess, not a guarantee - the game is only done when it's done. We are only human, we do what we can to build the game according to the vision that we started with, and it's no small task for us for sure.

ReplyDeleteI played SCANIA TDS and I must say that handling is good and steering is smooth now but you guys just did something wrong with gear shift. When using sequential I must throttle up then I can put 1st gear and drive and when Im driving slowly then neutral turns on and I must again shift up to first gear :/ Similar thing is with reverse gear. I cant put reverse because I must rev up engine first then I can put reverse but the same thing happens when Im driving slowly it returns to neutral :/ Why sequential is working so bad ? I tried manual but it is not working at all. Maybe it is only for steering wheel and gear shifter. On automatic I dont like to drive. Automatic cant get uphill sometimes because it is shifting up then down and so on and truck is moving in stop go mode very slowly.
ReplyDeleteFor me sequential works fine. I normally use my H-Shifter, but I tested it now, and sequential works perfectly fine for me.

ReplyDelete@Marcus Im using keyboard keys to gear up and down. When Im driving slowly and pressing brake then gears come to N (neutral) even if I didnt make full stop. It is annoying because again I must set gears to for example 5th gear. And while reversing very slowly trying to move very slow then neutral gear turns on on its own so I again must put reverse but neutral gear turns on every time Im trying to reverse slowly. It is frustrating. I always playing using mouse as a steering wheel and W-accelerate S-brake A-shift down D-shift up. From sequential I want to gears stay as I set them so when Im closing to signal lights having 3rd gear then I want to have it when I fully stop. But instead game forces N when I stop so when I want to move forward I must put 1st gear then 3rd. When Im reversing and I enabled reverse I want to have reverse gear always on. I want to decide when I want to use neutral. Thats how normal automatic transmition works in real life. Im driving car with manual but I know how automatic works.
