Bratislava to Birmingham

We would like to point you to another time-lapse Euro Truck Simulator 2 video depicting a cargo delivery, created by one of our hard-working beta testers. The video is a bit grainy due to high compression rate, but quite cool nonetheless.



Meanwhile, ETS2 Steam Greenlight campaign continues. Don't worry, we are not really adding any zombies ;-)

      Hey SCS,

      1) I noticed on the video that the guy who recorded it used full lights when there was incoming traffic. In real life, using full lights when there is incoming traffic could end up in getting a warning/ticket.

      2) And in some countries, cars have to have lights on during the day too. (It's like this in Estonia, at least).

      3) I hope the horn from German Truck Simulator comes back to the series, it was really good. Too bad STDS had the old horn.

Um, i don't know whether u guys have tried European Bus simulator 2012 but it did have two very realistic feature n that was the tachograph which records every thing a truck driver does including if he was speeding or if he has avoided taking rests,etc and all of the previous scs games have had them but with no functionality, is this like some thing that scs software gonna implement on in ets2 or??

      Secondly, the graphics and weather, i mean if rains, some vapor inform of fog builds up on the mirror and you have to turn on some heat on the windscreen in order to see what´s ahead of you, just speculating on this because all the videos have seen so far seems not to have this feature neither.

      And lastly, where are the dirt effects and snow, not to forget to mention reparation and other services such as changing tires and oil after driving long distances as it was in rig n roll 3. I thought u guys postponed the game from march all the way to 4th quarter of 2012 so u can have the time to make the game as realistic as possible and I as being your number fan has been patient enough with every excuses you have come up with so far, so please, don´t disappoint me as your nr.one big scs software fan and the rest of the other millions of girls n boys out there with the final results....

    5. Chris, seriously? you're 'expecting' this much from a small team not even a tenth the size of the team that made GTA4 and THEY couldn't even do all this?

      I don't know about the rest of you, but I just want to drive around and maybe make belief for a few hours that this is my life and my truck.

      Sure, I'd love all those features, and I'd expect them from a 150 man strong team, but not from SCS, at least not for another 5-10 iterations.

      You want those features sooner, start learning about programming, 3d art design, sound design, and just do it...

    6. It's taken 30 man years to make the game, and you're still not happy? You're not their number 1 fan, I've not said anything stupid to SCS once, and even I don't think I'm their number 1 fan. Probably in the top 50. You get some hard core fans out there ;)

      They've delayed it for a longer BETA stage, so if you want the game now, don't be surprised if you fall off the map whenever you enter certain places or you get tired every 30 seconds. Then you'd complain.

      But if they delay it, you'd complain it took them ages to make. You can't let SCS win, can you?

    8. True they are very silent about doubles, 1 post and then they stopped about it, so I fear it won't be in the game..


      Same as some info for the editor, we have gotten 0 info or statements about the map editor, mod tools, etc for this game. It's that what keeps their games alive, so they could so some support for it at least.

      So you think scs who are professinals can't do these things (placing and skinning signs ?)

      Its those small things who require least effort that make a game realistic or not. Check Omsi; Grphics from the stone age, but such detailed bus and signs on the road, it is more realistic than all of scs games combined (and yes Omsi has been developed by 2 students)

    9. First, that talk about doubles has be done to death already, just like the open-able windows and release dates, it's past the joke state and the annoying state, now it's just in the sad state...

      And secondly, I'm making a game with my bro, and am thoroughly impressed by the sheer depth and attention to details we're putting in there. That said, thinking back I remember when UFO enemy unknown came out, and hearing it was made by two brothers, I'm starting to understand something. maybe it's easier for ppl that live together to do focused work, where as it's a completely different ball game when you have to manage employees, that each have their own ideas and values. At least to me, it sounds like this might make a huge difference.

      So given the size of the game world they're making for us, and the number of trucks and possible variations with customization and all, not to mention the ability to manage a small company in game, I think it's fair to say they're giving us their A game.

      On a personal note, I'm still worried about that level restriction on gear and trucks, as if cash wasn't enough. And also would like to know if you can set the speed of the auto-centering feature for the wheel for when playing with keyboard. But...But, you don't see me whine about these things in every blog posts, I mentioned it once (well twice now...duh) and that's it. They see it, they don't, it's not an issue, I'll see when the game comes, if it's not 100% to my liking, then big deal, what is...like ever...

      In STDS is possible to change auto-center speed in config and controls.sii,but in ETS2 would be great that can be change in the options,for keyboard players.

      I personally prefer slower auto-center when driving at high speed and faster a-c at slower speeds,in STDS I somehow managed to adjust and is much smoother and easier to steer with keyboard.With vanilla steering config I was little bit disappointed because the truck turning is too rough.

      Your Wrong, the landscape is very nice. When the truck droved into Germany, there was a lot of trees around and also like the motorway at night, looks very realistic.

      Landscape is good in ETS2 no need to change anything.

I can't really say much about licensed trucks, partly because it is not my place to do so, partly because, as mentioned here in the blog, they will keep trying until the last moment (and possibly beyond for all I know). Hopefully manufacturers will realise this only heightens brand awareness. (c:

      -Dollys need to be down after unhooking a trailer

      -Bugs in the windshield are lacking

      -More realistic trailer hooking with dollys

      -Real inspection of the truck and trailer

      -A real analog log book

      -weight scale with random inspection

      But nooo, lets go for windows in the cab, because it is more "realistic".

      Yes, bugs can sounds irrelevant to truck driving industries, but when you pass in a humid zone filled with bugs, it can be messy on the windshield. You probably took a drive in your mom's car many times and never see a single bug in her windshield, but get this, its all about wind resistance.

      You want more realism in this game? How about a manual transmission operable with the mouse and double clutch system (in this case, lets say shift is the clutch). I bet you couldnt play that game for less than 2 minutes and be pissed about it!

      There are thing way more important in this game that could be add BEFORE your stupid litle openable windows. Even truck drivers dont open those windows, the sound from the wind resistance of the truck on the highway is so too loud. It lacks interest to be even added up on this game.

    3. I don't exactly like the idea of a traffic jam. Sure, it would sound realistic, but if you guys ever drive a car on your own, it is very unpleasant to sit in a traffic jam especially when you are the driver. Happened to me lots of times and it is always a huge pain in the ass. I wouldn't want that to happen in the game too.

      Some areas with more traffic (which would then slow the traffic's pace a bit) would be great, but not the ones where you move one meter a minute.

    5. I don't really want traffic jams. But heavy traffic where the speed may become limited to around 20mph on a motorway during peek times would add a more realism, without the tedium of sitting in stationary tailbacks.

      It would also make you more mindful of when you accept the harder deliveries. Though for that to really work, there would need to be more smaller roads as alternate routes, let it play into the risk-reward. Do you risk a 4pm 2hr delivery window down the M62 in rush hour, or take a longer route on single lane roads that would be quieter?

    7. 2.10 ghz sounds like that may be your processor speed. As far as the GPU goes, the only thing I can suggest is go to the properties again, and click "Device Manager" in the top left corner, from there you can click on "Display Adapters", and that should tell you what GPU(s) you have.

  26. I am just curious if traffic offenses are that fast like in STDS. E.g. You drive 90 km/h into a 50 km/h, 1 meter past the road sign and you get a punishment. Same if you drive 51 km/h for just 2 seconds and you will have a bill on your ass. But now in ETS2, driving 2 hours and your have drivin only to pay your punishments. Will be a disappointment in fun and your pocket in ETS2.

  28. Two thumbs up! Great driving and clip. It is really hard to imagine the amount of work behind this simulator. The physics, lighting, shadows, traffic etc etc. Amazing! Why haven't any of the major gaming sites picked up on this? Someone like Rock Paper Shotgun should do a story, preview or something on ETS 2. They really should. ETS 2 feels like a hidden gem that needs to be displayed out there. My credit card is waiting in anticipation of release. :)

Its kind of weird but after a lot of years playing all kinds of games, it felt like a breath of fresh air when I found ETS1, of all the places, I find that a truck simulator is far more gratifying an experience and worth my time, more than the standard cutNpaste games out there. Feels like I've had too much frosting, now I need some cake!

      I would like it to be dynamic, as in heavier density at specific times/days, eg: before the start of the business day in cities, Friday evenings, around festival days (would be different for different regions/cities). Maybe, that is too complex.

    General observation - Most of the other trucks are too slow and they go past in a blur. Would like to see trucks maintain similar speeds. In the one instance where the truck maintains a similar speed (2:44), it remains for around 15 seconds (~110 minutes gametime - not bad), then suddenly takes off.

    Similarly, didn't see other vehicles maintaining the same pace as the trucks. Some cars go past fast, not all.

    Unrelated - In STDS, cars overtake you (the truck) wonderfully on a two-way road. Also, they flash lights to signal you (the truck) when you're trying to get into a main road (and waiting for you to complete the turn).
    Nice touches, just noticed them.

      As for that truck taking off, he had a box trailer, I had a tanker trailer and a feeble little engine. I blew past him at the fuel station, though. (c; Beyond that I can't really say.

      Cars do overtake on a two lane road too, but only if they are a clear shot -- mostly. Some cars overtake slower, others fly by so fast they'd lose their licence if caught. dc:

      Just to be clear, the comments were for SCS and were not on your driving style. :-)

      I like the explanation for the truck speeds with respect to their trailer sizes, just that it was a little too abrupt (considering I couldn't notice any traffic ahead of it all the while).

      In real life, based on my observation (US), you observe different groups of vehicles maintaining similar speeds, and their momentum is usually broken by tolls, exits, splits/merges, traffic (or a sudden road rage).

      Overall, I like how the AI has improved.

  44. PLEASE STOP with this time compression rubbish. It does not give you any idea of what the game/simulator is actually is like. Lets see a video of a smaller distance delivery, lets hear the sounds of the trucks, not this crappy music that you continue to use. Are the truck sounds so bad that you have to use this crappy music to cover it up ? We all know the scenery is good, but what about other things. How can we see if there is a change in how the AI act, if the only time you see them they are going so fast ? And most importantly when is the bloody release date ? How much longer can you keep holding the released date back ? Not giving a release date is just plain stupid, you keep telling us you are a small team, and only have limited resources, but for some reason you do not want to release it ! Surely you want a return on all this work, so why not release now ? Are there that many bugs ? However long you wait there will be a few bugs slip through the net, so release now and then do what every other game developer does and fix with patches as an when bugs are found.

      That would be awesome. I really wish worldbuilding for the SCS games was more like how it is in the various Train Simulators (ie Trainz/TRS). They're amazing to develop worlds for where the truck games are a relative nightmare.

    2. Mark, think you're referring to the Extreme Trucker versions of 18 WoS. American Long Haul was the last full 18 WoS game and that was released in Dec 2011.

  59. You did a nice job on imrpoving graphics, AI, lightning, trailers, traffic,signs (however you could still do some effort on this one)

    But you forgot your old prefabs scs..

    Those highway exits are soo USA and totally not EU (going from 2 to 1 lane and then back to 2) In europe we have an extra lane for exits and entrances at the highway
    Scs you should totally take a look at this and finally make some decent updated prefabs or at least a prefab editor like the one the russians have made...

  63. Again, empty roads. It is not enough traffic. Bored here so go on an empty road with 3-5 machines. And it turns out, the gas to the floor, and occasionally call in the night. Interesting to drive when there is passing the stream of cars, traffic jams, to feel that you are taking part in the game.

    2. Yeah, it's wrong, because you can't handle with sexagesimal numbers as they were decimal. For example, if video without intro and outro is 7 minutes and 25 seconds long, you can't say it's 7.25 minutes long. In fact is 7.42 minutes long. You know... 30 seconds are not 0.3 of minute, but 0.5 of minute. ;-)

      But let's say the time is really compressed 16x, although we don't know it, you are probably right and it makes sense. So here we go:

    1. You guys are forgetting that there are compulsory rest periods, you can only drive a set number of hours per day between rest periods.

      Trucks are mostly limited to 90kph which they can only do on some roads like motorways.

      Assuming you could somehow keep 90kph without ever deviating below that speed 1798km would be as near as dam it 20 hours (19.97h) of just driving plus at least one rest period.

      Really you would be lucky to average ~70 to ~75kph across minor & major roads which is as near a dam it 24 hours driving at 75kph average or ~25.7 hours at 70kph average, which assuming you started the journey at the start of a working day would be 2 rest periods.

    1. SCS I see there is an error with the timing for the euro tunnel journey, its ~35mins, but in the video departure was ~19:11h and arrival was at ~19:16h, which is just 5 min’s or 30min’s to fast [not using time-zones]

      Or if using time-zones:

      It’s 30min to slow – i.e. if departing France at ~19:11h CEST arrival in the UK would be 18:46h BST [19:46h CEST] + 30mins error = 19:16h BST [20:16h CEST]

      If you email an NDA for me to sign and return, I will quite happily test the game for you and root-out little errors like this and report them ;) lol

    3. Just remember if you adjust this little error as you call it, there is many other thing to think about. The time to latest deliver should be less, the time to arrivel should be less. The time to when you need to sleep should be less, and if everything should be right, you should be 35 min less sleepy. So a little error is now a huge error that will not be corrected before release.

      Now I seem to recall there are also ferries in ETS2 perhaps they also take just 5mins on the ETS2 clock? but e.g. Amsterdam (IJmuiden) to Newcastle UK ferry time is ~16 ½ hours (the only regular ferry service out of Ijmuiden to the UK in real life) – FYI: in real life on long ferry crossings you can take your compulsory rest period “if you have a cabin”, so you can leave the ferry with a FULL driving day ahead.

      If there is a problem that all/most delivery journeys from the UK to Europe (or vice versa) get broken because you cannot make them in time then that’s a fundamental problem with the time that has been allotted for delivery journey and NOT a fundamental problem with reflecting the correct expected “time” for the allotted rail or ferry service on the ETS2 clock.

    1. You have to wait untill SCS release a demo. It's the only way to test if your PC support or not ETS2. This because on the web a lot of people say "It run perfectly on my PC" or "It's shit cause it have only 20 fps"...the only way is try by yourself.

    It should be cool to hire 1 or more engineers into your company which will help you out when you or your hired drivers are having problems with the truck on the way to destiny or just at the company itself. He has his own service caddy to drive to you and help you getting back on the road ASAP. The more skills the engineer have the faster he is able to fix your truck but also it will cost more in price of course. All truck parts he needs to use will cost you as well just like real life.

    Beside of this, it would be cool to see random tower trucks with a truck hanging behind them. Just suggestions for ETS3 someday :)
