American Truck Simulator is bringing a wider range of semi-trailer lengths compared to what we have in ETS2 now. The longest variants and the overall resulting length of the whole tractor-trailer pose an extra challenge for navigating tight intersections and maneuvering at the cargo drop-off points.
Consider the comparison image above - it's clear that the driver of the big rig on top will have a considerably harder time getting through tight bends or taking a turn on a narrow street. Often the shortest path through a city may not be the best path to reach the destination without risking damage to your semi. The same cargo delivery point which seemed easy with a shorter trailer before can become a nightmare when you come next time with a 53-foot trailer.
A trailer's axle positioning will also challenge the players to expand the skills they are bringing over from driving trucks in Euro Truck Simulator 2. Double axle configurations are more common in the US, and certain configurations of axles will have a different tendency to jack-knife.

cool keep the good work
ReplyDeleteI like what I see so far SCS
ReplyDeletekeep up the good work
Oh, yes!
ReplyDeleteMy thought exactly, but there was a sware word between oh and yes.
DeleteIt seems you guys are going quite into detail with a lot of things. I'm especially happy to see these types of trailers. Even though it is taking quite a long time, I am happy to see progress of this type. I do hope the truck sounds and physics will be top notch.
ReplyDeleteA couple of things I would like to recommend though:
More trucks such as:
Peterbilt 379
Kenworth T800
Kenworth T880
Mack Granite
Mack Pinnacle
Chat system (Like in 18 Wheels of steel)
Loads of customization points for trucks
And finally, being able to purchase, customize, paint, etc. our own trailer of any kind.
Keep up the great work SCS! Hope to see more gameplay videos or pictures of features or more trucks soon.
Never better said. Amazing work SCS, keep on and take your time : )
DeleteAs well as airlines connected to the trailers. That would be very cool.
DeleteYA! would love to see some MACK trucks in ATS. That wuld be awesome.
DeleteThe 379 isn't going to be in the game as it is no longer in production. The 389, however, will be. There was a video from a polish youtuber who visited the SCS office that shows one of the developers working on the model. Just to note, if the truck is no longer in production SCS isn't going to add it into the game as the truck manufacturers will want to show off their current trucks.
DeleteI would love to see some older trucks, like the 389 that peterbilt still makes and the T600. Though I guess they'll come in mods, hopefully the amount and variety ETS 2 got. Even ETS 2 has a good amount of american mods

Delete"As well as airlines connected to the trailers. That would be very cool."
DeleteHahaha! I work in aviation so when I read that I had to sit and think a moment before I got "Air Hose" separated in my mind from "Airline".
With what you have planned and what you have given us so far. I am truly impressed SCS. It looks very promesing. Love it!
ReplyDeletedouble trailersss pleaseee!!
ReplyDeleteWhile double or triple trailers would be cool, there not all that common any more. And there not very maneuverable. So if they didn't add them, I wouldn't be upset at all.
DeleteYes, double trailers.
Deletelol, not that common???? what do you think FED EX, UPS, DHL, SIAI, ABF, and countless others run exclusively??? LTL is still a bread and butter industry here in the states, running trains of 2 and 3 28 foot vans, especially out here in the western 11.. you don't see many turnpike doubles, but driving for Navajo, our account with Cosco had us running Rocky Mountain Doubles (a 53 foot and 28 foot van) daily to destinations all over the northern Rockies.. and no, they are not maneuverable, that is the challenge in them, especially with the tail whip effect that can snap a trailer around in a heartbeat... you guys would be missing out on a skills challenge opportunity, by excluding those.. that is why doubles/triples is a seperate endorsement on the Class A CDL..
DeleteIt seems to me that double and triple trailers are on the decline here in the pacific northwest. I'm not sure about the rest of the country.
DeleteDouble trailers would definitely open up better mods for Heavy Hauling trailers like it did with 18WoS: Haulin. I would love to try parking a double trailer, especially with the new parking system they are working on. In Atlanta, GA, double dry vans are very much so common.
DeleteUPS and Fedex runs doubles here on the east coast, but here in Baltimore City they are not allowed. The UPS lot is just inside the city line.
DeleteIn Colorado you can;t spend 5 minutes by I-25 without seeing a double. As for triples, we see those more at night, as they are harder to maneuver in traffic during the day, so around here the triples do their driving when there are fewer cars on the road. But once that traffic does die down - yes - triples are VERY VERY common. Doubles also, only double run ALL day, not just during the night. :)
DeleteNice work on stretching the trailer to 53 ft SCS you guys are doing a excellent job not only the stretch of this dryvan but everything in this game so far Thank you
ReplyDeletePlease hungarian paintjob so we can support you even more! Fuck mods!
ReplyDeleteI don't want to keep complaining..but...why does a non-refrigerated dryvan have a fuel tank under it?
ReplyDeleteAll of that put aside, I'm glad to see some news on this, I was a bit concerned when the longest trailer you had was only a 48' reefer. I hope you can make different variants of the flatbed too. Our more common flatbed trailers are either 48' or 53' with spread axles.
Airtank maybe?
Deletetrucks use air brakes, the air has to be stored in air tanks underneath the truck and trailer so thats why there's a tank there
DeleteAir gets stored on the truck and is supplied to the trailer directly from there. It doesn't need a tank, especially not one that large. A tank that size on a trailer is considered a fuel tank, which would be under a refrigerated trailer to run the unit.
DeleteI don't get why you guys have to defend SCS all the way down to every little thing they do. Don't get me wrong, I'm happy to see them making this and look forward to when they finally release, but I'm sure they could use a bit more criticism for simple-to-fix things that they keep ignoring.
Actually, I think trailers do have a storage tank on them, but it's a lot smaller and usually tucked up above the axles where you can't see it. Ironically the refrigerated trailers they've been showing in this game don't have the fuel tank.
DeleteThe reefer fuel tanks are always further forward and facing the left side. I think the tank on that trailer is supposed to be an air tank although it is wrong as well. Usually 2 air tanks tucked in between the axles as you were saying Jon.
DeleteNow we just need a well implemented "visual damage model" and we'd have a perfect sim.
ReplyDeleteWill never ever happen. These companies do not give out licenses to use their brands and trucks just so SCS can show them damaged etc. You will never see a damage model in these games as the license agreements usually have clauses stating that no damage can be shown as they want their trucks shown in pristine condition for company image.
DeleteSo it can be damaged in game engine shown as % but can't be shown graphically. Logic. :(
DeleteI never understood that when there are many other games out there that have licensed vehicles that can get visually damaged. I guess semi truck manufacturers have a different opinion on it.
DeleteThis comment has been removed by the author.
DeleteThey actually do have a different view and rightly so. Truck driving is about caution and safety. However other games that do have damage models are more for thrill and risk. Most damage model driving games are racing games, where you actually expect to see the occasional torn up pieces of vehicle flying off the poor chap that just lost the race due to his total incompetence at controlling his vehicle. This is not the case with ETS2 or the upcoming ATS.
DeleteIt;s already sad that the multiplayer mod out there has all but ruined the image of ETS2 - literally every YouTube video with ETS2 that involves multiplayer is nothing but morons driving like it's GTA, purposefully wrecking into other trucks, blocking roads. I've observed that it must be impossible for anyone to actually join that multiplayer mod and actually have a serious drive.
Now ... imagine all the bad image videos that would swarm YouTube if they had damage models.
I would NOT want to be a representative of a licensing truck company and see that image plastered all over the web - even if it is just a game – it’s still my company’s vehicle in that video getting torn to pieces for fun.
On the opposite end of the stick, however, is the aspect that you need some sort of damage representation in order to promote that safe driving, hence the damage meter in the UI. I know that when an AI hits me or I make a mistake and I see that percent go above "0", I cringe. To me any load that has ANY damage at all is a COMPLETELY failed load. I definitely do not need visual effects to let me know I totally f'd up the drive.
Sorry, my post double-posted. That's been happening to me a lot today ...
DeleteOfficial release date?

Cant believe we well only get to play ATS in like 2 years or so...oh well
ReplyDeleteEnvironment? :((
ReplyDeleteWhen does it comes out ? I cannot wait this game more longer !!
ReplyDeleteSome sites said december 31 but not sure
DeleteNo way it's coming december 31. The only right answer is from SCS.
Deletecade os bitrens eos traille dulplo para o ats
ReplyDeleteYeah yeah yeah!
ReplyDeleteAmerican Truck Simulator wow hurray ... Boring!
Why you can't just focus on the ETS 2 and make rigid trucks to it. We waiting for this so long, for this and so much more. But you rather would make new game than improve old one. I will not buy ATS, sorry. I played every 18WoS and I'm done with U.S.
Yes, were are rigid trucks?
DeleteRigid trucks have less of a weight capacity, and if you're done with the US,bum,I would suggest you get a game with a Canada map.
DeleteThis comment has been removed by the author.
DeleteI wasn't thinking about ATS., the same Dave De, because we can wait for it forever. ETS2 is done, so were are rigid trucks? Someone once wrote: "Rigids are alive", but where? Sometimes I have the impression that scs doing bigger upgrade but only a paid DLCs, smaller are for free. Multiplayer, Rigids trucks, tandems, double trailers, own trailer, seasons, new trucks in the game, we can only dream about, because it will be to much work and it should be for free. So it does not pay to do that.
DeleteWhat i see ATS is ETS2 with mods...
ReplyDeleteNOPE!
DeleteWhat would be cool is to make the trucks and trailers interchangeable between the two games...just sayin!
ReplyDeleteId like to see multiple hitch points for the trailers
ReplyDeleteJumbo Trailer + Cereal (Schmitz or Wielton) Trailer for Euro Truck Simulator 2.
ReplyDeleteAlso Tandem trucks could bring double trailers from Scandinavia like real life.
Give us release date and we will add another year :)
I can't wait til American Truck Simulator comes out, I hate seeing all the funny looking euro-trash trucks, and having to use mods to get halfway decent trucks, so i love the fact that they are making an american truck simulator.
ReplyDeleteConnected hoses to the trailer would be nice :)
ReplyDeletethat would be almost impossible. All trailers hoses are in different locations.
DeleteThat's another good idea when it comes to make the game closer to the american trucking realities; in this respect, i would like to remind SCS something that i was noticing in that pre alpha build videoclip, namely brake sounds: i dearly hope those sounds WILL be replaced with the real brake sounds of the american trucks, because what we have in ETS is NOT what the brakes sound like here in America; remember the brake sounds from the original ETS? THAT is what brakes sound like here, so at the worst you can just implement those in ATS. Pretty please?
ReplyDeletehttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=36z0n4dhCgo
ReplyDeleteSmosh made another 'If video games were real' and they made a scene about Euro Truck Simulator 2. The scene starts around 3:09
in some 20.y later we will maybe have in ETS2 and ATS whole maps .... maybe I may not even experience it in my life if will go everything with that speed in SCS
ReplyDeleteSell "California" under name ATS is not fair and it is far, far from whole USA .... in ETS2 we got 1/3 of EU , maybe not whole ... after next big Update maybe we will be on 1/3 of whole EU map ... after long 4.y ??
some one guys ... with so many people in company
It gets better and better every time I see it
ReplyDeleteHope we will be able to own trailers and drive double trailers.
ReplyDeletewe want the truck airlines to connect to the trailer and buy our own trailers and that volvo truck you guys used for sound recording does that sound like this ---> https://youtu.be/-GnZUL_TX5w or like this --> https://youtu.be/KNNEsevGar0
ReplyDeleteRelease date?
ReplyDeleteRelease date never
DeleteThey mentioned February in a recent interview
Deletebullshit danny nobody mention anything
DeletePavel actually did say in the most recent interview that they are now just trying to have the game finished by the end of the year and it will take 6-8 weeks to market the game and get it out digitally and physically to stores, etc... So yea, possibly 1st quarter 2016. Big word, POSSIBLY.

DeleteLooks outstanding SCS. Keep up the great work, looking forward to the release of this spectacular game.
ReplyDeleteThe capability to simultaneously fuel both left and right side fuel tanks as we do over here in the US would make an excellent addition to this game. Right on Red, lot lizards and so forth.
Steve in Colorado
the longer the better
ReplyDeleteplease make dock/undock of trailer more realistic for example air strips with physics when undock air pressure sound
ReplyDeleteor while unloding/maneuver the truck and trailer tire sound by steering in small radius

ReplyDeleteEvery bit of news from you guys release makes me even more excited about the game! Only thing I hope that gets incorporated is that the suspension be alot less rigid. I would love to see more travel in the air ride of the trucks and trailers like in actual trucks. Great job SCS!
ReplyDeleteIs there Volvo on the first screenshot from ATS?
ReplyDeleteit's the vnl 780 i think
DeleteYes that is the Vnl780
ReplyDeleteI hope that highway intersections or main road intersections aren't as tight as in ets2.
ReplyDeleteChallenges are okay, but that is something for in the city and the locations you need to pick up or drop you load. In ets2 for example, there are locations were you won't be able to make the turn if you use the lane meant for turning right. You can just make it when you stay on the lane meant to go straight.
It would be cool tough, if oversized loads are in the game that make normal corners a challenge.
I think they are going to make the streets a little wider like in the previous 18WoS games. European trucks and trailers like in ETS2 are built to fit through the more narrow streets in Europe. That's why if you are using American truck and trailer mods in your game, you can already feel the challenge with the tighter turns.
DeleteThis comment has been removed by the author.
ReplyDeleteJust FYI, the mudflaps on a trailer almost always are directly connected to and follow the tandems. Looks good though!
ReplyDeleteI hope we have the Freightliner Cascadia and Century
ReplyDeleteYop, there will be a Cacadia and Century, but they will be mods and you'll need to wait till 2037 when this game releases :)
DeleteOoorr, I could wait till next year, which is when the game also rleases
DeleteNah, they won't release this game, give it 2-3 years.
DeleteBtw, there will be another group developing another (and better) american truck simulator, so this one will be forgotten and no one will play it then.
DeleteWhy even care to comment on the updates if you feel this way? We are all, for the most part, excited about the game but negativity isn't going to make the releaseany faster.
DeleteWhen does the update come for ets2?
ReplyDeletedeberian de dar la fecha de salida de una vez y no hacele tanta cosa al juego. Y por cierto soy de Colombia y me gustaria que hicieran un juego de Colombia que se llame Colombian Truck Simulator
ReplyDeletePor favor
ReplyDeleteHey SCS. Are we gonna see any "rocky mountain doubles"? in the game? I would love to see the classic 40' paired with a 20' pup. it would make the game that much more realistic
ReplyDeleteHoses between truck and trailer would be pretty cool
ReplyDeleteagree
Deletei agree too truck airlines attached to the trailer ------> https://youtu.be/sltxhnuu7hY
DeletePavel: "Right now we are putting DX 11 features to the game because we were stuck with DX9 for a long time. For many reasons we need to go to this step first. DX12 and the new Vulkan API that is replacing OpenGL are next on our horizon for sure."
ReplyDelete"So in American Truck there is a concept of police cars being parked strategically. Eventually, there is this idea where police cars are able to chase you. It won’t be in the initial release for sure, but there is a plan to expand traffic rules enforcement over time. The European game doesn’t have any police cars, and we will have to make cars for different countries, but at one point this feature will surely make it to both games."
NICE, but hurry !
http://www.gamepressure.com/e.asp?ID=339
Fantastic news, thanks!
DeleteWhile I do not care about new DX features (I just grew up on 8-bit computers and few years old graphics is already too much fantastic for me :D ), I'm excited that guys at SCS are finally ready to bring back some fun elements we know from older 18WoS titles. Police cars definetely were one of those elements! Now for the CB too - although it was nothing but ear-candy, it had pretty serious impact on atmosphere and credible gaming environment.
SCS software please even a DLC include the double trailers
ReplyDeletealso in 18 wheels of steel haulin...

keep it up, SCS. I can't wait.

ReplyDeleteI don;t think it's a so called Challenge.....There's no difference betweensuch size traier. It's not a huge cargi any way, so ,yes, it might be challense for those greenhand.........,
ReplyDeleteThe game will miss one thing.. Realism
ReplyDeleteIs that a Volvo truck in the top picture?!?! I knew Peterbilt and Kenworth were in the game, and heard that there was going to be a third manufacturer they were working on rights with, but now we know. Yes. I just really hope they can negotiate terms with International Corp. to get ProStars and LoneStars in ATS. I LOVE Internationals, and I drive them every day (IC School Buses, anyway).

ReplyDeleteThis is gone a be The Best Game Of The Year , If not the game ever made ;)
ReplyDeleteYour joking right ?
DeleteAnything is possible...
DeleteThis comment has been removed by the author.
ReplyDeleteIts all good adding to more realism in the game ( it is called "simulator" after all ), but how about adding some dirt and/or water particles on the trucks and trailers.
ReplyDeleteIts weird driving your truck through rain and dirt roads(or muddy should be during rain time), with the truck looking in pristine condition all the time.
It shouldnt have to be hard at all at implementing a visual effect where trucks and trailers would get dirty after a long drive.
2016 its upon us and ATS delays on its release. I wonder how much of a "new game" ATS will be, or it will just be another "ETS2 with mods" ?
Mud can't be found on trucks, the licences doesn't permitt that... rain maybe...
DeleteI dont think so. Farming simulator is using licenced vehicles, and they do get dirty.
DeleteThis is going to be wondeful!! I look forward to this sim. I hope the realism will extend to having many small towns to drive through and extended time lengths, similar to the Hungary Map by Frank007. Another thing I hope to see is realistic trains with long long consists like we have here in america.
ReplyDeleteJust please tell me we can buy trailers and see our drivers at road...
ReplyDeleteThis comment has been removed by the author.
ReplyDeletei have lost my calm with SCS, fuck this guys and this shit "new" game on old engine and without multiplayer...
ReplyDeleteThis guys are not capable of keep ETS2 updated. How in the world they will do the same thing for 2 games?
The funny is: The community are so used to this low quality and slow progress that keep clapping any little news that this guys post...
I'm out of this Sh**, i've no longer patience for SCS any more, and you guys should do the same until they show something really big.
Kind of agree with you until a point. From what we have been showed ATS does not look very different from ETS2, disappointing considering ETS2 came out in 2012 and ATS probabily will be released in 2016... With a 4 year gap between this two, i would expect major improvements but we will see.
DeleteI dont see anything wrong in beeing provided with regular news though, if anything, they should post more frequent ;)
Not having a multiplayer its a flow in my opinion.
DeletePersonally im not a big fan of the multiplayer in ETS2,but who knows with a proper ATS multiplayer model coming from SCS that could change. I know alot of people play the ETS2 multiplayer, even though there is not much to it. Having some kind of economical competition with stats and leaderboards, giving a point to it all for sure would attract more fans to ATS, and SCS would only have to gain from it.
u know like i say in the previous post they never take consideration to our demands(simple ones that could make the game to become more entertain) they do it like they want but not like us players want e.g. see at the trailers in the beginning they were short and they are okay but some several changes could have made it more realistic. One i thing don't understand other games with real cars, etc. The vehicles like one game i would not mention after several time of driving the car became dirty.
ReplyDeleteThis comment has been removed by the author.
ReplyDeleteWell there is a lot of room for detail to be added in this kind of games and SCS is limited by time and man power to do it all. But what we could hope for is that SCS would provide us with a solid game engine that modders could build on it.
DeleteETS2 its a very good example of that. A very good game when it came out, but lacking in features and detail, with the help of modders and SCS it kept the game enjoyable for all this 4 years and who knows how long in the future.
ATS could be all that if it will come with new features and not only a new map and new trucks.
Уважаемые разработчики SCS!!!!!Сделайте пожалуйста Renault Range T,я обожаю этот грузовик и очень хочу видеть его в игре,заранее благадарен!!!!!!!Вы лучшие!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeletethey made effort to keep the game flowing, with the limited resources they have... It's their only project for the moment- the only revenue source..
ReplyDeleteMaybe ATS will be faster and better developped, as now they have a "foundation"..
Though, in my opinion, they should hire once more 3D designer, and a texturer. Eventually, change a programmer or train him better.
Both games lacks in so many aspects, many of them simple to implement.
will their be freightliners ?
ReplyDeleteI love a challenge, hope to see road trains on the game one day . And also please get us a bigger variety of trucks ( freightliner , peterbults , ect )
ReplyDeleteLooks good! We need a sneak peek of the Volvo VNL 780 because we have seen the cabs of one of the Kennys already. Thanks!
