While developing Euro Truck Simulator 2 and specifically the physics simulation in the game, we have been putting a lot of effort into improving our vehicle physics model. Our goal is to make it as close to reality as possible. We have come a long way, but we would like to go even further of course.
Complexity of the physical model is growing - small change of one parameter in the system can often have hard to predict consequences. There are more and more combinations of parameters or configurations which need to be properly tested. Just to mention a few, there are at the moment three different axle configurations, engines with different hp, surfaces with different friction coefficients, we test both acceleration and braking at varying slopes, with or without the trailer which may be of different weight...
If you count all the combinations which should be tested, you arrive to hundreds of thousands, and it has become impossible to test everything traditionally at the hands (and steering wheels) of human testers. Such testing would be too time consuming and hard to organize systematically. Since we want to deliver maximum possible quality, we had to come up with automatic testing.
Vehicle is given prepared instructions and it is placed on a testing map with specific terrain profile. All possible combinations are tested automatically overnight and the results are processed afterwords using Perl scripts. This way we can often catch problems hiding among the many combinations. No, I think the game is set in the summer and in Middle Europe sunset in summer happens somewhat between 20h ~ 22h (depending how far in the East or West you live. As more as you get East, sunset and sunrise happen both earlier in reality.)

DeletePitch black night is realistic, what game devs do on other games ("bluish" night) - That's unrealistic. ETS2 is PERFECT in this regard, change nothing.

I forgert something : the landscape is so beautifull, i would behappy to have a camera view with a far distance from the truck !
I noticed the scania has 2 of each engine, for example there are 2 320hp, 2 360hp and so on....Its that a bug ? And volvos engines are all availeble from the begining... 600hp, 700hp and 750hp. Thats a bit unfair for the iveco fan(for example) that starts with 310hp engine and has to unlock his way up to max (which is good becouse it follows the story)

so it's all balanced, dont get the feeling like volvo is better than any other by only looking at the numbers..

DeleteEuro 5 and Euro 6 are emissions control standards, started off with 1, then 2, 3, 4, etc. Current real life vehicles are mostly euro 3, 4 or 5, although there are still plenty that aren't euro 3 even. Euro 6 should be more efficient I guess, if it's been programmed like that.
DeleteVolvos are wrong in the game, the starter one should be lower power, not all FHs are 600+ bhp, I think that's only the FH16. In the real world most trucks are around the 300-400 bhp mark, it's not many that are full power.

ReplyDeleteBUT, still some quick tweaks needed.. as the AWFUL graphic-lag in turn-direction light on mainly MAN-trucks (but are some in all). Can drive through towns and everything in high settings, without any fps-drop.. putting a turn-light on.. and wiiie.. we got a rubberband in our tail! Same on any graphic-settings..
The better truck (engine) you got.. the worse is the effect, strangely enough..
And weather don't work with fatigue on (for me anyway), driven 45+ real hours.. got 1 (!) rainy day in first game-week.. then nothing. BORING!! A quick patch, should be nice.. !!!

Bah.. seems like you must be lucky getting in a right "cycle" then.. Yes, actually 50+ realtime hours now.. Even tried extra sleep, to see if i "catch up" weather (seeing clouds).. but no. Sun..sun.. and more sun (or stars at night)... Strange!
DeleteYou can have my rain and welcome, seem to get rain most every long journey. Rain means I need the lights on and than I get bad framerate. Having the lights on at all drops the frame rate in normal scenery to something around 8-10 fps, whereas with lights off it's fast enough that I can't count it.

DeleteHello, the game is very good but if put the stuffs from Truck & Trailers and Scania like heavy roads, animals on the road, places to park the trailers, will be best game ever....now the game is a lil bit boring, because there is no action. Put a peanlty ticket for highlights and more truck models :)
ReplyDeleteTrucking is a pretty boring profession, which this game simulates pretty well imho. But I find it boring in a good way. Mainly I enjoy listening to radio streams, dunno if there's a way to get Swedish ones on there, but I quite enjoy listening to French NRJ atm. :P

i would use the diferents modes of conduction that in real Volvos. I mean that i would put a button E/P in automatic mode for down some gears and work at higher RPM like in real Volvos.

So, where do i start, oh yes - the lights.
So, the lights in ETS2 (truck lights (only from your own truck, not from the others on the road!)), there are some problems with them and the fps when you turn them on. So if I turn lights on my fps gets low, about 10-15 fps less then when they are turned off, and when I turn them on there are lags, and it's pretty anoying :(
I'm not the only one who have that problem, about 95% Polish peaple have the same problem as me, I am from Poland and I look a lot on the Polish forums, so I know how their game is running.
Ps.I. And I don't play on the highest grafics, I play on middle grafics, and I used to play on 100% graduation, but now I have to play on 75%, because of the lights!
Ps.II. And it doesn't matter if you have a bad computer or a very high and very good computer, it still lags when you turn the lights on.
Can You please do something about it, maybe in the next patch? I'ts quite anoying that even if you have a very good computer, it just lags... :(:(:(

ReplyDeleteThe views from inside the cab of the truck are very narrow, when you drive down a highway are not the names of the cities on posters, moons broader truck top to make them look better traffic signals when you go to 80-90 km / h or the names of the biggest cities, and more lighting at night, just looks a bit of signal, the rest is dark, you have to go all the time watching the GPS, the indications road are very bad. Thanks SCS.

ReplyDeleteI've noticed a thing, that I think other people did as well: about the rain of the game. I think the rain is too forgiving.. You can drive normally without using your whipers. Other thing is, there is no "night rains". When you are around 20h, and starts to rain, simply the sky does not became dark. If the rain keep going, you can see that the wheater wont get black. Using the same rain topic, I think that would be better if the rain particles can be increased, and i'm suggesting a extra speed for the whipers: 1 time, normal function, 2 times, whipers faster, for heavy rain.
I hope this can be added or updated for the game.
Please look into this as well, SCS! I would love to also have different wiper settings!

All the trucks I have bought, from all places, have UK numbers. My company started in the UK, this is what it should be. I haven't looked at the trucks which are based in another garage in Germany, to see if they are UK numbers or German.
DeleteOne thing I did notice was wrong, the trailer rear number should match the truck, parked trailers don't have numbers.
checked this now: the trucks have a number based on the location of the garage where they are based, which is not completely accurate (if I have a UK registered truck it keeps the same number wherever base it in the UK, it doesn't change if I move it from Swansea to Glasgow), but it's a minor issue. The ones I moved to Germany now have German plates.

DeleteWhile you're about the physics, the truck engines still stall far too easily in low gears. Try this in the real world, a truck can be shunted around the yard on the flat without touching the throttle, it doesn't stall the engine. Applies even more so to an unladen tractor, but even a loaded one on normal flat ground. Plus, modern engines with electronic fuel metering often have an anti-stall feature...

ReplyDeleteCould anyone tell me how to increase low beam light range in the "lights mod", because i've bought lights for front and roof of the truck but in low beam it is the same, only in high beam you can see the difference, and if i switch to high beam i will have a ticket.

You won't, you know. You would in real life, but in the game you can drive with high beam on all the time if you wish - I've never yet had a ticket for that, only for not using lights when I should (e.g. in rain). The extra lights should not come on with low beam, in most countries - although I agree the low beams are a little short range in the game, they are however loads better than previous games.

ReplyDeleteWHY all trailer have the SAME mass, defined at the physics.sii? Two Wheel-Loader are the same like one etc - please! Another point are the trailer-paintshops, it's nothing that, what I call a modding friendly solution(one for all ...). Next step the Truck-Tuning: Why I can't put Horns directly on the Roof, or these little Flashlights? Xenon light should be also a part of the Tuning and not dependet with the cabine.
Because of the new Shader: With Zmodeler2 it's possible to mod the Game. But it's impossible to define a mat for the truckpaints(or new tuning parts with these colors), because they taken the color from a 2. UV Map(ZMod2 can't export that correctly). And now that's the reason, why i should buy ZModeler3? Only one shader they can handle this without pass ... not more ...
It's really a very nice Game, but there are some mistakes(imo).

ReplyDeleteHI SCS team. It would be extremely usefull to add real Antialiasing in Euro Truck 2, because MLAA + scaling, even with 400% bring to the game very poor results. Blinkies and awfull edges.... So many nice details you've put in your game which are totally altered by the huge amount of AA. That's so sad... :(

ReplyDeleteI have been a truck driver for 9 years. I'm driving the same Mercedes Actros that is in the game. It's cool that the details are so realistic, and even the "poof" sound the engine makes when turning it off is the same as in real life.
When talking about physics in the game... it's sad that the truck doesn't feel heavy when you drive; Compared to reality, it feels like the trucks in the game weight as much as a "empty milk package" if you know how i mean.
When driving with full weight in reality you really feel the weight of the truck when changing lanes and turning in intersections, and you often have to shift the weight of the truck carefully before changing lanes or sharp turns. But in the game, the truck is changing lanes like a go-cart.
So it would be nice to have some more realistic feeling of the weight of the truck in the game; make it feel a bit more heavy and slow when shifting lanes and turning in intersections with a heavy load. More like driving an elephant not a mouse or a go-cart :P to make it feel more like in real life.
SCS, please remake all the truck models, they are incomplete. Man has only one type of cabin in cockpit view, doesen`t matter if i use the lowest cabin on Man, if i change the camera to the interior, yes i will see tha standard interior without GPS but when i look around the cabin is XXL not XL. It is too big.
