Oculus Rift and Euro Truck Simulator 2

A few days ago we released a new testing build of ETS2 with tighter support for Oculus Rift virtual headset. If you happen to own one, feel free to download the beta on Steam. Download and configuration notes can be found on our forum.

If you don't have access to Oculus Rift, perhaps you can have a little fun watching Eric as he is playing Euro truck Simulator 2 in front of the camera:

    Will final version of oculus rift have 3d tracking? I theory it should easy to achive. They would have to add led spots with different colors. For example 4 green dots in front of device. 4 red dots on sides and 4 blue on top and bottom. They with proper software simple web cam could track your position. Just like move does on PS3.

      You say so? Basically you say it's cooler to move around your head and point your eyes at the monitor instead just move your head, eyes open straight in front . With Track IR let's say you look in left to make sure there is no traffic, so you move your head and then wath? You look with your "tail eye" ?

      Track IR is wonderful thing but but oculis is waaay much better. Two main reasons - 1/ you still see picture in front of you, 2/ its calibrated to your head turn in 1:1 ratio, so the space illusion around is perfect.

      I can say definitely no! Sometimes when I test ETS2 I use TrackIR, and is much better then without that device, but.. yesterday I tested Oculus and it was really awesome! These two devices can not be compared. Really looking forward for Oculus with better resolution. It will be totaly perfect.

      I have to disagree. I play ETS2 with 3 monitors, G27 and TrackIR, with a low FOV to avoid deformations, and the "sitting there" feeling is really good, but I still see my room around, and you only turn your head a little with TrackIR (to be able to see the monitors).

      With Oculus you turn your head exactly the same as you would if sitting in the driver's seat, and you ONLY see the game world around you. This means that you get an extremely realistic feeling of being inside the virtual world. The final Oculus is said to be high resolution. And remember it's not just a screen in front of your eyes. It's a different image for each eye (different angle), meaning you will see the final image as you would in the real world. This is, real 3D.

      But the point I'm trying to make is that if you have a nice monitor it wont be used. Also how do you see your controls ?

      @Mark: Only problem I see is how to pick my beer from time to time (and maybe also how to drink from the glass). Other than that, for a driving game like this one, I don't need to see the controls. I have all configured in my steering wheel and gear buttons (G27). Anyway it's true that for some extra actions (cameras, pause the game for something, etc.) you will need to remove the device or either learn the exact position of the keyboard and keys.

    Камера от руля далеко же! Ощущение что он с подголовника смотрит.
    А в целом давно думаю о приобретении данного девайса. Хорошо что его ещё не выпустили в продажу, есть время мне подумать, а разработчикам доработать окулус рифт.

    I'd probably have to throw up if it'd ever use the OR... Good to see that some companies actually invest (some) effort in OR, though.

    Any news on the the coach simulator and ATS? I (and probably many others) want to know what you're working on! :D

    SCS please ... It would be fantastic to find drivers employed by the road and we touch the horn, also allow drivers driving recruited differently to traffic, give more realism to the game ... would buy the mod please respond to the request ... thanks (google translator)

    "rear view mirrors" ??? I know what is a point of this Video....but you find really big noob for this game !! Is the only one who has "Oculus Rift virtual headset" ??? This guy must learn a lot of trucks first and than try game like this !!

    But this Headset is awesome and it is close to real truck driving...

      To understand you have to see. Honestly, do not care about resolution when the feeling from the game is "Wow, I'm sitting in the truck". This is much more better and realistic than any resolution on any display.

    Thank you very much. Just activated my retail code on steam, downloaded the beta and tested it with the Rift. Too lowres to play but still the easily the best Oculus demo ever. :) Playing ETS2 with the consumer Rift will be pure awesomeness. Thanks again (it made me so happy that I needed to buy GoEast DLC ;) )!
