Scania DemoCenter at Södertälje, Sweden

Sometimes our dialogue with truck manufacturers regarding official licensing of their brands for our games takes an interesting turn. It just so happened earlier this week, when SCS Software's CEO Pavel Šebor was invited to drive a few laps at the Scania DemoCenter. This vehicle demonstration circuit is very near to Scania's headquarters and factory in Södertälje, just south of Stockholm, Sweden.

Pavel drove a truck for the very first time in his life on this day, so it's obvious he was nervous, but excited at the same time. He might have driven a bit slow, but considering that he was driving a V8 730 HP tractor in a loooong Scandinavia-specific 24 meters configuration, loaded with 60 tonnes of cargo, it was a smooth ride for a newbie. Perhaps playing the truck games really gives one a head start when it comes to driving the vehicles for real ;-).

    Also Pavel, I am glad that you used the retarder on that descent!
    I guess you know what sound the truck produces when braking with the retarder (that quiet 'wooo' sound) and how it interacts with the truck.
    Please add the retarder to ETS2.

    Wow! Congratulations! I'm sure it's been loads of fun. Eh... some people get all the luck!! Thumbs up for Scania team too! That's the spirit, that is what truck manufacturers should understand. This game is, after all, a big praise for the beautiful products they develop - the trucks, and for the talent that goes into designing and building them. Nice one!

    Have you noticed that the truck behavior is really similar to the game? If you try to filter the movements of the cameraman, you end up with something close to the simulated truck. So, good job, SCS! I must get a truck driver license, this is too much fun! :D
    A piece of advice for the programmers: be very careful; now that the boss has actually driven a real truck, he is going to be even more demanding, in terms of handling and overall feel of the simulated truck! So, good luck to all! ;)

    Nice video, and good driving! It's great to see that you have a good relationship with truck manufacturers such as Scania. I hope this driving session also helps you in making the ETS2 and other future games as realistic as possible when it comes to handling and feel of the truck.

    Perfect! Should be a great sense driving truck most powerful the world's, just as it is. Must have strength to spare even pulling 60 tons, this is a truck to work. Congratulations Pavel.

    and now just wait until you are invited to drive with 750 hp, with the Volvo FH16 750. Don't forget that in your games, that Volvo has made a more powerful version of the FH16 a few weeks ago, so it would be great if the FH16 has 750 hp in game.

    Congratulations, it looks like Pavel enjoyed himself. The weight he was pulling would have been more noticeable if he had had a chance to pull an empty trailier first. He would have noticed a significant difference in acceleration and braking distance. I believe it's essential to accurately replicate the role that weight plays when driving a truck if the goal is to give players a simulation and I'm glad to see that the team is doing field research on this!

    I think few know how I wanted to do what Pavel did and some can imagine. Driving a truck must be amazing, comparable to little joke of boyfriends, understood ?

    So I spoke here on the blog that the game should give us a real feeling of driving.

    And I think to myself, would be really cool if the game was continuous connection to the network of SCS Soft to validate licenses(seria key) and to receive updates. It would be nice if the trucks wear out over time(type lost performance 100.000km on) making it necessary to buy a new one to maintain performance.

    Should be used trucks dealers and new trucks, being you of SCS Soft, upgrade by connecting to a network of SCS, with new trucks, parts, etc.

    This idea may not be very profitable but it is good. Would keep game always new and does not enable an activation key that enable various games(the famous cracks).

    I love scania, i´m so happy that in ETS2 the scania was made new!!

    What about cb-arial on the roof scs? Is it a part,too, that I can buy at shop??

    I really like to see a good game of the truck, SCS is making beautiful graphics, but ... I would feel something in my G25. The force-feedback and bump of the road working on my wheel. Change shifting and weight differences of the trailer full and empty. It could also put fog on the road.

    This is great news! Congrats Pavel for the opportunity! So after driving a real life truck, does this hint at better cab and truck physics in Euro Truck Sim 2? I got my wallet ready and I want to see better physics! :)

    @MTCougar: It's not the same, motor brake works completely different than retarder. Plus retarder doesn't produce that 'growling' sound like a motor brake. On the motor brake, you just have one button to press and it activates it. On the retarder you have 4 stages of braking. Pull down one for 25% braking power, pull down two times for 50% braking power, pull down three times for 75% braking power, and pull down four times for 100% braking power! ;-)

    Hi!
    Will Sweden be included in the ETS 2? maybe with the typical lenght trucks as well?
    I would be very happy if sweden and the other nordic countrys would be in ETS 2 after all we are members of EU.

    It's fun to hear the cameraman talking to his buddy: "I don't think i'll ever be a cameraman." "No, i don't think the swedish television will be calling you this afternoon *laugh* " =)
    What i miss in these games are the "sluggishness" the trucks have in changing gears, loosing speed uphill and so forth. All these games still feels like driving a car. A big, heavy car, but still a car... Trucks are so much more than that! Hope this game will feel more like the real thing =)
